Ira Alsadi 08.05.2012 | Finally got them both ready for paint. Playoff tickets aren't cheap so I won't be dropping these at the painters for a couple weeks. |
Margie Pavell 06.05.2012 | good work my brother... i cant wait to see it come back from paint... |
Ira Alsadi 05.05.2012 | Thank man. I really do appreciate all the kudos even if I don't respond to it all right away. This project is keeping me on edge as it requires modifying the deck plate, inner weight, rubber base, and the Dicer itself, with very little room for error. To say I am proud of this mod is an understatement. Here is the first deck all primed up and ready to paint. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336226073.095133.jpg Second one will be ready later toevening . As I am taking a break to go watch the Caps beat the Rangers! |
Kiyoko Wellisch 04.05.2012 | I am *very* impressed that you did that by hand. Really wonderful work! |
Ira Alsadi 04.05.2012 | Had some leveling to fix on the first deck. Here it is ready for primer. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336176834.089754.jpg |
Ira Alsadi 04.05.2012 | I've been working with metal for years and year. Bonding the die cast aluminum with the new stock aluminum was a bit tricky. I was afraid I was going to have to weld. I hate welding aluminum and getting anything to bond to die cast aluminum is a tricky bitch. I would love to do custom mods for people but I need to build my reputation a bit first. |

Cammy Clegg 04.05.2012 | I got to give you props for doin this to your 1200's. What did you use to machine it? |
Ira Alsadi 02.05.2012 | I didn't want to deal with soldering out the ports to relocate them so I lined the dicer up so the ports are flush with the outside edge of the deck plate. This allowed for me cut the side of the deck plate and fit the outside edge of the dicer flush. I cut the top edge off the top side of the dicer to give it a nice finished look. The hinge plate which is located there will be cut in half to line up with the edge of the dicer and allow for a smoother finished look. The original plan was to cut the ports directly into the side edge of the deck plates, but for easier mounting purposes, and easier removal of the dicer is chose to leave the dicer PCB in the bottom part of the plastic housing it comes with. ad42d87c-cf5f-8660.jpg On the next set I do, I am going to remove the ports and relocate them to the bottom of the turntable or to the side by the pitch fader. That will give me a much cleaner look and keep the wires out of the way. |
Tatum Ansaldo 02.05.2012 | How are you dealing with the ports and connecting the 2 dicers? Are you building 3.5mm ports into the TT? |

Ira Alsadi 27.04.2012 | I can't take credit for the idea. I saw a link on djcommunity
s where this cat JR did a horrifically ugly custom set for someone and built the Dicers in. It looked like garbage and had a wooden deck plate. Looked like he was going for a retro look but didn't marry the technology with the overall look. I said to myself, I can do that and make it look fucking unbelievable. When done the decks will be painted white with a blue pearl finish and the standard blue LEDs. |
Lang Abriel 27.04.2012 | I don't know why this wasn't thought of earlier to be honest...great work. |
Tatum Ansaldo 27.04.2012 | This is fantastic. |
Ira Alsadi 27.04.2012 | I have thought about it in general, but seeing that most controllers I am familiar with would require much more room I didn't entertain the ideas very long. Also, I can't believe of any practical ideas which aren't covered in the dicer layout. Buttons on the side are out of the question, and DVS only allows for so many controls anyway. I am open to ideas if you have any. One idea I've had for a bit now is to put a triangular pattern of 15 buttons where I am locating the dicers now. The pattern would look similar to this: o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o The thing I like about this pattern is I could make it to suit the customers needs interchanging Pots, Momentary contacts buttons, or double throw buttons, or even toggles. Adding the usb out would be easy enough but I couldn't find any multicolored buttons small enough, and I don't believe I want to mess with adding an led for each. |

Brunilda Kora 28.04.2012 | All worth it, mate. All worth it. |
Ira Alsadi 27.04.2012 | Did a functionality test and all works well. Ended up using the bottom of the original unit to protect the board and to make it easier to mount. Now I just need to seal the hole in the center, rig up a back plate, add a piece of metal to the back, alter the hinge bracket, replace the RCAs, prime the exposed aluminum, and send it off to paint. Then do it all over again to the other deck. LOL! |
Chasidy Heckenbach 27.04.2012 | wow looks like a perfect fit for the dicer pads... thought the thread title said MF3D at first tho |
Brunilda Kora 27.04.2012 | MY hat is well and truyly off to you, son. I love that. |
Ira Alsadi 27.04.2012 | I updated the OP with more pics. |
Roxann Hermann 27.04.2012 | Thats absolutely brilliant. How have you gone about doing that? Id love to do that with my mk5's but id be far too afraid of hurting them. |
Julius Schoenhofer 26.04.2012 | That's awesome, can't wait to see how it turns out! |
