Gamepad to controller

Hey guys! so im on a quest to make my own controller with pots for my vinyl. I've bought two twin usb controller basically 4 controllers with only two usbs. Which leaves me with am minimum of 16 pots and 48 buttons. two of those pots will be volume faders for my vinyl and one as a crossfader. My vinyl is currently running through serato into my hercules 4-mx as a soundcard. the idea being my controller will act as deck 3-4 and my vinyl as 1-2 through using my gamepad controller as the mixer through midi messages. some of the pots will end up (approximately 8) will be the eq knobs leaving 5 knobs left over for mapping. My problem at the moment is im running a 64 bit sytem and tried using glovepie but i tried installing ppjoy on to my computer (before) putting it in test mode. Once in test mode i uninstalled it and re installed it but it didn't work. I noticed it skipped downloading a bunch of the ppjoy files (even though i was in test mode) Can anyone help? Is there any other programs that are better I've been doing research but it seems midi yoke downloaded wrong into my computer and rejoice is only for 32 bit version. I could setup the buttons to do keystrokes but that doesn't do anything for my pots which is what im interested in as i really want the extra mixer. for some more info on the ppjoy problem it opens up fine but once you try to add a controller it doesnt let you pick a parrallel port or anything only lets you choose the controller and theres four more options above this one but i cant access them.

I don't believe gamepads support encoders tho, same as velocity sensitivity of pads. Maybe you need some midi brain instead of gamepad board.

Have you finished any sketch?

sorry two buttons on the right side of the eq knobs. both decks would get two sets of 4 arcade buttons (i was curious about like touch sensitive buttons maybe?) by the knobs.

ya I have pads on my novation remote but there lined up 8 in a single row which isn't the best design in my opinion. I was believeing that i might have to combine one of the effects units with the mixer to yield all the knobs and sliders ill need in the same general area so im looking at 36 buttons and 12 knobs/sliders for my mixer 16 of those mpc leaving 20 buttons i was believeing two on either side of the knob encoder "as to" press one button to say kill that eq and the second one to be an effect meaning there'd be 8 effects buttons on the right of the eq kills. Then the remain four buttons will be placed somewhere to be accessed for other mapping such as a button to toggle the eqs and effects buttons to produce another layer of effects and knobs (I'm using VDJ) so i ican program this all in my scripting. Which still leaves me with 3 mappable buttons beside the button that toggles templates. these three buttons could be loop ins which would be fun as well. i tihnk this mixer will be bigger than i believe but smaller thank you believe if you get what I'm saying. Now the effects unit on the other hand still has 12 buttons and and four knobs (I have one extra knob on my mixer for mapping as well maybe i should make it another volume knob? allow it to toggle between deck 2 and 3 and have a 3rd volume slider?) I'm believeing this effects unit will be simple 4 knobs 3 layers of 4 buttons.

ya I've heard that what about like touch strips crossfaders and volume faders any info on that like do they need any specifics like said above^. So do you believe that you could use mpc like pads instead of buttons?

I'm gonna dig a llitle more with this glovepe and will tell you if I get it working.

When choosing, make sure you get 10K linear potentiometers.

Ya I'm using the newest version but im believeing of switching to zestoi midimasher because i believe he'll be able to supply me with someone that will work properly with my comp we'll see how it goes i really just want to start the design for this thing. Thinking tomorrow I might take a trip to the flea market and see what my mixers form shall take!

Which version of glovepie do you use? Beyond 0.3 seem not to be working from readings. I dl v0.3 and can't create ppjoy virtual joystick.

i was looking at threads on diy controllers someone was mention pads vs buttons is it possible to have mpc like pads as buttons? it would be pretty cool if my mixers 24 buttons were a mix of drum pads arcade buttons and such!

ya im actually not using fergo. I'm back to glovepie and am in the middle of trying to figure out how im supposed to map out these controllers to send midi signals i have an idea of what i want to do but haven't gone out of my way to by buttons or supplies as i want to make sure i can map these right first before spending more money. though I could do a sketch up for ya. I'm really keen on makign sure i can make this work before putting to much money into it.

Never used fergo but the principal should be pretty much the same. You need to add all buttons to HID-MIDI converter first so fergo can translate it to midi and send to traktor though loopmidi virtual cable.

As loopmidi can rout digital signal (buttons) I don't see why it shouldn't route analogs too. Is your project even started? Would like to see photos of it if or at least some sketch.

so I did some more community searching and downloaded fergo for my controller and have a little bit better understanding of how it works (connecting which program to which) but still have no idea to get a program to recognize my controller do i need to start writing script into the program before it can find my controllers?

can it handle pots? and would i run that into glove pie? im not exactly sure how this hid stuff works though i feel like I've got a good grip on mapping with the program i use. I'm really looking forward to making my own mixer and effects units.

Have you try using loopmidi virtual cable? It's compatible to 64 and 32. I use rejoice with midijoking till recently, I use loopmidi now for my controller and routing midi back to traktor. It isn't perfect but I believe it's best for free.

there will be two seperate devices one will be a mixer the other two effects units split into two seperate boxes for a total of three boxes run off of two usb inputs so the bigger single bow will have 8 eq knobs and 24 buttons possibly 12 for samples and or hot cues the other two units will have 4 knobs each and 12 buttons for effects maybe loop ins a roll it sort of system though one box might have two drop three knobs for incorporating my volume sliders and crossfader. i was believeing of putting the knobs and buttons closer together like the knob would be at the top right corner of the button for quick twists of adjusting sampler volumes incase i decide to put a button function that goes to a second template for my device for other mapping. I'd like it because i could take my hercules 4-mx and put it on another table for my cousin to dj with while i have my homemade mixer infront of me with my numark tt200's Making my own mixer opens up more possibilities for me to customize my own hid/midi setup to where i can do anything within a touch no touching the computer (on a side note) it might be a cool idea to leave one of the gamepads direction pads intact and use it as a scroll feature (not the anolog sticks but the arrow pads) I could go on and on about my ideas but i dont want to do anything until i can map it to work first which is my current issue (using 64 bit is limiting)

I call it "hid fighter". It's build to control IG effects. It's 12 buttons gamepad in box with it's cable running out from back side. Nothing special at all... I gived some space for another row of probably four superknobs.

You didn't say why that manu buttons? For 48 you'll need king size box... Not be very mobile tho

Any advice? it looks like you created your own little midi fighter or something?

well one twin controller was 15 and i purchased two so im up to 30 dollars now my dad has a soldering iron so that expense is spared i also have plex glass already but am not sure what else im going to use for the case at the moment I'm trying to get he program to work with my controllers so i know its worth putting the money into. Though im assuming this will run me 50 dollars for 16 pots and around 150 dollars for 48 buttons if i go for arcade buttons specifically. Then if i give them a paint job im looking at another 10-15 dollars and whatever my box ends up costing me . Box might be made of wood or something more simple or cheap So this project will run me about 230 if i pay for the more expensive pots and buttons though i forgot to calculate the crossfader and two volume sliders but ill probably try to keep it under two hundred buy finding a cheap lot of arcade buttons or using a few arcade buttons and some sort of other cheap button instead. In my opinion though this would be a cheaper way of creating the controller you've always wanted for around the same price as a controller made for the general masses. Plus who doesn't like bragging rights when talking with your dj buddies about your setup

When you put all pots, buttons and other parts on paper how much this controller will cost?
