I don't want the software to be released prematurely.

i'm working on one for turntable dj... cues, fx, loops, plooping for decks a-b... deckadized mixing for c-d...i've got one mapping but don't like it enough to share yet... browser settings are complete

only issue i've had is there are repeat notes on different banks...i.e. bottom 4 pads in bank b have same note and controls as top 4 of bank A...this is the case for all banks...i was going to make it simple and keep bank buttons for deck control buttons but have to do something different now

I'm working on mine - LED feedback for almost all functions, all 8 hotcues for all 4 decks (when set to track decks), EQ kills and resets, control of all four fx units, including on/off for all units for all four decks and routing options, deck flavour changers, scrarch control on/off, scrubbing and beatjumping, push/pull, track prep tools, browser controls, control of the global section, loop controls, hard cuts, and more. It will be done soon.

The on point of critique would be that the big browse knob falls out of the total design by looking a bit cheap plastic (it's not rubberised like the small knobs are). A superluxe white knob with subte grey rubberised details would have been worth an extra buck.

As a total noob, I find that browsing for sounds on the hardware feels a bit odd as there are no indents and the knobs are quite sensitive. Can you adjust the "scroll speed"? Anybody knows?
Not a noob question - it's not in the manual anywhere. #7, The second-to-last knob (when you are browsing) to the right, scrolls faster than #5.

Sure thing!

The replaceable/customisable/whatever plate that comes on the white model is really a brushed silver/chrome/other grey metal texture than white. The black one is properly black though - I don't have one myself (I didn't get one of each, haha), but I played on it for a while and it looked quite a lot like the original.

Prematurely would have been releasing it before the mk2 controller...

Is the LED feedback in color? If you want to send it to me I can assist you in building it out. I just want to start from somewhere. [email protected] if you're interested.

Today I am working on a Serato map.

You could always build a favourite list by making a new tag in the browser and then browsing this shorter list live.
Ervin Calvery
12.10.2012
Not at all! You are supposed to be able to do everything on the controller. I find that there isn't a reason to look at the software while playing live at all.

I don't know that colour changes or time stretching can be changed from the hardware.

Thanks a bunch. There is over 250 pages of reference manual on the web. Happy I don't need to dig through them. Wouldn't this seriousy damage the usability live? If I would attempt finding the perfect sound for the moment Live, I would NOT trust myself with these knobs...

I also find myself having the strange behaviour of wanting to do as much on the controller as possible, while the laptop screen would be so much more conveinient. Is it because I want as much controller for my buck as I can? Is something wronger with me than usual?

@superluxe; My washing machine has a more sexy knob than my Maschine. This disturbs me. A lot.

Temted as I am to elaborate about the substances found in my underwear, I'll just say:

ITS AWESOME

Had about 3 hours with it (hate those business trips, wish it ran on batteries) with no clue beforehand on how to program beats and now have two really neat grooves made allready! I especially like the control/step switching.

Sorry for the delayed response-

I played back and forth between the Maschine mkII and the MPC Renaissance, and both the hardware and the software (the 1.8 update wasn't out yet, but has been released in the interim) beat out the MPC. The pads on the original Maschines are probably more responsive than any MPC (including the new ones) and the mkII bad blew the original out of the water for me. I could play almost as many degrees of dynamics as I can on my grand piano keyboard. I still probably can't play as many dynamics between zero and maximum as I could with, say, an acoustic snare drum and sticks, but it was way, way closer than my original hardware could come. If you're a finger-drumming type like me, this is a big deal.

I'm not one to be excited about fewer knobs, but the clicking is kind of cool. I browse kits and samples on the hardware, so it's nice to have another degree of precision. I also use my controller with S-Layer and MPC16 (sweet Reaktor samplers), and occasionally become annoyed trying to find sample 112 and not being able to find it between 111 and 113. In the same way, I've worked with a couple of rappers (of the free-styling variety) who (infuriatingly) find 90 to be too slow and 91 to be too fast - this might solve that problem with a couple of clicks.

Since they had all the expansions, the Abbey Road series, and Massive running, I was able to properly try out a good portion of the things I use, and the pads (especially the poly aftertouch for massive and the improved/insane velocity sens for the more deeply sampled instruments) were a big deal. I'm not going to miss the the Snap button (which always had "no functionality) either.

I was also concerned because I'm very (very) colourblind and when I saw the online ads, it looked to have just five colours to me. (I was in for a surprise when someone with... full-spectrum eyesight told me there were in fact sixteen). In person, I could see more than twice as many - only the reds and greens and the 'mint' or whatever it's called appear exactly the same to me. In other words, I got 11 colours, which is a significant improvement over just 2, and not bad compared to the 16 that an unimpaired person gets. The MPC, on the other hand, used red and green (FAIL), which like seven or so percent of men, I can't distinguish at all. I get around this with my APC40 using remote scripts, but I don't move anything at finger-drumming rates there except maybe the crossfader...

In any case, I made up my mind right then and there.

Only reason I bought the MK2 is that the shop screwed up their pricing and accidentally sold it for €100 less that the NI retail price. If I don't like it I can sell it without losing money...MK1 is better stylewise.

+1 In terms of style Maschine MK1 is untopable imho. Coloured pads don't impress me too much as I have developped a standard layout (Drums always on group A, bass always on group B and so on...) that works for me without any need for help to remember.
