Horror DJ pictures/videos !
Posted on: 15.11.2011 by Makkins Clifton
Warning: This thread is only for DJs with steady nerves and propensity for self-flagellation

Post pictures (and eventually videos if you're out of ideas*) of situations every DJ is afraid of or which just hurt when watching them.

I start:

This photo was taken at the Future music Festival in Melbourne Australia

* Save the others time and don't post videos of CDJs failing on Tiesto. Everyone has seen them (and mischievously grinned) by now.

HEHEHEHE...I will post it up for you guys.

Was in 2005!

Still good music tho....Psytrance!

Jester will know the artists.

The first 4 tracks worked so well.

1)Abomination - Dividend
2)Tickets - Cash
3)Scorb - Lets go Raving
4)CPU - Black Mamba
5)Digital Talk vs Azax Syndrome - Hagi Gat
6)CPU
7)Twisted System - Twisted Tiger
8)Damage vs NRS - Disruption

Will try and locate it for you ...if you really that keen.

I played Shift - Megatron at number 4 at the party....but left it out of the actual mix.

Now you made me (us?) hungry as well. Where can we find the re-recording of this legendary mix?
Lilliana Perris
17.11.2011
Indeed!

Was just CDJ1000's and a DJM600 mixer.

The more it rained...the more people came running from downstairs to the roof!

Was Epic to say the least. Power cut out like 4 times during my set....but made the crowd so much more hungry for it.

That set (guest slot at this Organization) earned me residency with them for a year.

I re-recorded the set and till today it has had the best feedback from all my mates etc.

A mate took his car in to be serviced and came back without my CD in the deck (it had been there for months....he kept listening to it) and asked me to burn him another copy.

Ahhh...the good old days!

Unless the sound-guy is Aquaman it's probably not his fault anyways

@Sarasin: Nice story. You must've looked like a lunatic waving your hands below that towel all the time (if someone didn't know what you are doing).

I remember being at this party. The sound was out for half an hour, while we kept getting soaked through and through.

Ahhh, those memories
I played a large gig on a roof top and had to come on at about 4 or 5am.

As my first kick dropped...the skies opened up.

No one ran away!! I ended up playing my 2 hour set with my hands hidden under a large towel to stop the gear from getting wet.

My mates and the crowd loved it!

RAIN FTW!

@ that last guy, guess it's happened to all of us at one point or another.

Thankfully seems like most DJ-gear is built for that kind of torture.

Opening evening of a large "rave" club in Stockton, UK back in 1990, I managed to kick out the main breaker for the entire club ... complete darkness except for emergency lighting. The electricians couldn't have put it in a stupider place, directly under the decks at feet level.

Once it started up again the only tune i could believe of to start over again was "Is anybody out there?" by Bassheads.

I have also played in a club where the plugs to all the power were where my knees are when standing in the DJ Booth. (Cement one.....)

After drinks and smokables, i was jumping up and down doing my thing and BOOM....no power.

Realized what happened and turned it on again, but it took about 30 secs. No one really worried about it....except my mates. They ragged for for the rest of the evening .

Lucky had a backup plan... :P

But in reality, drank some beers and complained. So not entirely wasted evening. (Or well, yeah.. Wasted in one sense then...)

The PA should have at least 2 fuses on the main amp, so might get away with it there. All PA gear in festivals is kept behind the dj. Normally Just a couple of EQ's really by the dj and thats it. I've been stage side AAA to several festivals and have seen this be the case. But i guess it's upto the sound tech dude on site really how wires and sets up the gear.

That's Melbourne for you! Sunny one minute, pouring the next!

And having worked in the festival/touring industry, I'm suprised they put the decks so close to the edge of the stage if they knew that weather was coming - you should always be expecting it in Melbourne!

I've also seen FOH amps rained on before - 20mins to showtime too! Not pretty!

This reminds me of the 2009 Good Vibrations festival in the Gold Coast Australia. FatBoy Slim was the headline act playing main stage.
About 10 mins into his set the heavens opened up and we got our usual summer flash flooding.
The place was knee deep in water by the end and was pretty much a pool party.

took a few picks, but sadly my camera & phone did not survive the onslaught of rain.
