'09, Morten Breum, Axwell & Ingrosso 2nd time was last October, Hardwell was the headliner. Best show I've ever seen. Also appearing was Mark Kevening and Martin Solveig. There are some more, but those are quick off the top of my head. |

Romelia Stankard 16.12.2011 | I got convinced to go to a brostep show this weekend- 12th Planet. It says on facebook there will be a "very special guest appearance." I have a good feeling I am walking into a live appearance by Skrillex this saturday, should be entertaining. |

Galina Mancinas 13.12.2011 | A few of my highlights... This year started with Ultra, but our flight was cancelled Friday because of the airport fire, and missed most of saturday due to a primping GF (then a bitching overdressed uncomfortable shoe wearing GF). D34dm4\_/s: As much circus show as DJ show, but it was entertaining. I dig the Mau5, his stuff is what it is. Cosmic Gate: Killed it, such depth and tightness, perfect mix of their old stuff and new Alex M.O.R.P.H: One of my surprise favorites, if you don't have it snag Hands on Armada, beautiful mix front to back. Laidback Luke: Another surprise favorite, big ass beats Later on went to Chicago Green Velvet: Opened for Carl Cox, the dude is an absolute freak, must see Carl Cox: One of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. I simply can not fathom how he can make everything sound so damned smooth. I swear it seems like he can play a 4 bar loop for 20 minutes and have it sounding fresh and awesome the entire time. ATB: Saw him for the first time Sunday after Carl Cox. Bar none the best show I've ever been to. I wanted to see Andy Moor that weekend, my girl talked me into going to ATB instead. ATB the producer and ATB the DJ are two VERY different people. He'd weave the most beautiful, melodic, uplifting sounds with downright grimy synths. That evening was like Church for me. Last Weekend in Ft Lauderdale\Miami Donnie Lowe: Opened for Cedric Gervais, unbelievably groovy set, shit got in your bones. Cedric Gervais: I was hyped for this show, but honestly was kind of let down. I have a lot of his old live mixes, and his old deep sound has given way to a lot of poppy\screechy\dutchy kind of, I don't know, it had its moments and his skills are great, just not feeling his set. Last Year: Markus Schulz: One of the most energetic, amped shows you'll ever go to. Seems like every minute or two for hours and hours and hours he's building up and dropping down something new and sick. My girl and I both had legs like noodles for the next two days. Tiesto: I've seen him a few times live, and I've enjoyed every one. People love to nitpick the guy but fact of the matter is his mixes are tight and he rocks the house. A few years back went to a bunch of festivals\raves, and for the most part I was a bit too pre-occupied talking to trees and rocks to remember the names of who was making the boom. A few I do remember though: Shpongle: An absolute lesson in how to mix smoothly and weave musical styles in and out of each other. Like absolutely nothing else. Jackyl & Hyde: I remember these two dudes just ripping it up, not much beyond that. Aphrodite: KILLED IT, I mean KILLED IT live. I remember wandering around in a stupor and just turning toward the stage wondering "Who IS THAT?" It's odd, I remember trying to find some of his recorded stuff that I liked after that and came up short. Back in the day: DJ Micro: One of my all time favorites. Energy, tight mixing, flow. If you can find it, there's an old bootleg live recording entitled "DJ Micro Live @ Avalon" that still bumps. Dave Aude: Another of the all time greats. Great to see he's still on the scene. Bad Boy Bill: Always a fun show, used to be intense as hell. When I first heard his newer stuff I didn't believe it was him. I know there are a ton I've forgotten, and a ton of no names that have melted my face a time or two. I guess I just loves me some EDM. |
Romelia Stankard 13.12.2011 | Two weekends ago I saw Moby at Mansion Miami. I was very surprised/impressed. I had no idea what to expect from him and he put on an awesome DJ set. He played a lot of other people's stuff and the little bit of his popular more recent stuff he played was just to tie everything together and they were remixes more fit for a club. I also really liked how he came on. The opening DJ/resident was playing lots of openers and more poppy stuff to get people going and then they just cut the music and he steps up, there's like 15 second pause and he just smiles and hits play straight into some hard techno with no song intro. I really liked the style/complete gear shift and it set the tone for the rest of his set. He played a mix of techno to some good tech house, a little (decent non cheesy) progressive house, and even some good electro house. The mixing was very good and it was an exciting set that kept you wanting more. It was also the first time I heard a funktion one system. |
Osvaldo Newhall 14.12.2011 | Last thursday, I went to see Roger Sanchez. He played at the main room of the club where I also play regularly. Right after my set 12am - 2:30, I went straight to the main club to watch and listen to him. The man is legendary. His skills are awesome. Using 4 CDJ-2000, DJM 2000 and 4 flash drives, he showed the crowd what a real DJ is all about. Mad skills, great track selection and live remixes with acapellas and samples, he utilized the CDJs and mixer to its fullest potential. Hands down for the S-man! |
Gilma Marchini 14.12.2011 | I actually haven't been to a whole lot of Gigs involving large crowds or well known acts. I'm not a sociable guy and large crowds really bug me; I'm here for the tech, not the party. The exception being Massive Attack, I was willing to put up with that big crowd. |
