i dont know about that opening match...

the czechs and the russians are next...

my DVR is going to get a work out...

anyone making any predictions?

21.06.2012		Well, for me the semi-finalists are quite clear. It's the teams from groups B and C. I don't really see much chances for the rest.

Actually, that's not correct, only 7 of the England Squad players from World Cup 2012 are in the 23 man Euro 2012 squad, they are very different teams. I believe the England V Italy match will be 50/50, it all depends who comes out of the blocks quickest. I agree that Hodgson has done a very good job with inexperienced players in a very short period of time.

20.06.2012		Laurent Blanc is a very astitue manager..some have him taking over for Harry Rednapp after the Euro's or possibly succeeding Sir Alex further down the line so I wouldnt count out the french...as it goes for England...this is the same crop of players that have played the last like 3 tourneys so I believe Roy Hodgson is their trump card...he knows the Italians well having managed Inter Milan in the 90's so we'll see.

Semis (id like to see)

Germany vs Italy
France vs Portugal.

I dont hate Spain but i believe they might be a little bit overated and i believe their winning cycle should come to an end. I wouldnt mind seeing France, Germany or Italy winning the whole thing.

I'm not so sure, there is no where as much expectation for England to do well this time around (unlike previous tournaments) and despite getting through the ugly way, there is a growing feeling of confidence around the England team and the manager has made the right calls at the right time and seems to have got them in a good frame of mind - this was last seen probably in Euro '96. The defence, at the moment, is solid too. Attacking is lacking a bit. Any way, I don't believe England are displaying the levels of nervousness and weight of expectation like they have for the last 6 or 7 tournaments they've played in. Eng v Italy will be 50/50 I reckon. Just hoping its a good match and both sides play to their full ability.

So Italy were 1-0 up on Spain albeit for 3 minutes ... so Spain HELD Italy to a 1-1.
Once again Italy scored on Croatia first... and through a defensive mistep Croatia equalized (if you actually watched the game) so once again croatia HELD italy to a 1-1 draw and then Italy beat ireland 2-0 so even if Spain - Croatia was 0-0 they still would have progressed.

Not sure if i should be happy or sad that Italy plays England instead of France...actually England have are much more likely to choke so mhmm.

Yeah well I'm Italian so, I should say, Italy didn't play good matches, anyway Italy was always 1-0, but got few few energy and "lost" the matches for that. I believe that Croatia was a good team, not many good player but they played all for the team.
Example, France got some terrific attack player, but the team play worse than Croatia

There has to be a change in the German game. It was not a bad game, but with Greece in the next game they will have a very defensive team.
I hope to see a final between Germany and Spain

and guess what, my predictions have been all right and I'm winning atm.
For the first time in 10 years I'm winning. I just hope that Netherlands would somehow get trough.

17.06.2012		I am going to hold my guesses about Germany until toevening s game against Denmark. If they win and win strong, then I see them as a championship contender. If they just eak it out, then I see them having a rough time becoming champions. If they loose, oh boy. Then they might not even make it to the quarters. Don't want to believe about that at all......

ummm, don't believe France can meet Spain in the Semis, I presume you mean 1/4's? In fact unless they meet in the 1/4's they can't meet til the final.

Personally, although I still hopelessly wish England will progress far in to the competition, I believe Germany will be in the final and probably Spain, depending on how the groups work out.

Russia and Poland both out, amazing turn of events this evening.

No worries mein Freund, I stopped caring about soccer 15 years ago.
More into inline skating and music to care about it.

(Ah yeah, I do enjoy the occasional baseball, american football and basketball game. )

And this years dutch team is just pitiful, really talented guys that just refuse to work as a team. "Hey guess what, it's a team sport bitches, better start working as one to get somewhere."

Also my choice for coach would be different!

If italy wins by 1-0 ( or more lol ) with Ireland and croatia lose with Spain, Italy and Spain are in the quarter (Spain 7 pt Italy 5 Croatia 4 Ireland 0) . So, is still very possible

@Mr. Panda: tactical fouls are a vital part of any football match (but of course rightfully sanctioned by a yellow card), I would not hold that against anyone.
