O/T Snowboarding - Skiing season.

O/T Snowboarding - Skiing season.
Posted on: 22.11.2010 by Shay Wyche
Anyone planning on getting away this year for some decent snow? I seen a few posts from guys last season and was curious how many people on here can't get enough of the white stuff (innuendo intended).

Sorry if your in the southern hemisphere or in the tropics, but I'm excited about the upcoming season. The forecast for some real snow is in the next few days for the North of Scotland.

Nothin' you already told her twice. j/k ...that's a joke and the only way you'd get away with it is if you were a girl too....and there was jello involved.

All silly aside, yeah that sucks. What's even worse is apparently everyone is getting dumped on. Mammoth Mountain in California just got 8 feet...yes, I said feet....in the last few days. Efffff me.

I live in flatness. Flat as in even trees are scarce and trees rarely reach 30-40 feet. The dirt is red...but the girls, no doubt, solid. Texas/Oklahoma girls. I'll leave it at that. Back to snow, got distracted...that happens alot round here.

Hopefully you find some cheap gear soon. If you're in the states...there are places clearing it out. That doesn't fix what she did, that's just mental.

While it sucks massive donkey cock that she threw it all out, the fact of the matter is the economy has been sodomizing me for the last two years, directly, as I live in Asia but get paid in USD. I've been preaching to her about living cheaply the whole time. She can go about a month and then does something stupid... like throw away a set of shit which will probably cost me $500 to buy back used. I've got a trip planned for some backcountry snowboarding in the Laurentians in Quebec, and LOTS of winter surfing on the great lakes.

One of my favorite things to do is to create genre specific sets. Generally these aren't sets that I would put out. They are more for matching and idea generating purposes. When I ride up the lift I will set markers and take notes on parts I (dis)liked.
After a months worth of riding I will compile all of my stuff into a big set.

This method also ensures that the tunes and mixes making their way into my performances are stuff that really popped out at me.

Another reason snowboarding and DJing go well together is the variety of music! As a DJ, we have a unique opportunity to express ourselves through our own musical influences. I find that the mountain is a great place to cultivate that skill! I listen to funk, soul, jazz, you name it.

Love Riding, one day i'll get out west. Every year I go up to Vermont with my boys and we get blazed all day and cruise through the woods...its so amazing. Unfortunately I won't be headin up to vermont this season, but i'll be getting a season pass to a local mt. this year.

a quick question..say you were to do a gig at a resort...how long could you keep your gear outside in the cold without it being damaged?

I've never been to Seven Springs in the Winter but was there one summer for Cycling Nationals. What I was were some good slopes... certainly has the mountains for them.

Oh man... I have the shittiest snowboarding story ever. Apparently last year my wear & bag were not totally dried out. My wife went down to the storage to get a suitcase out as I was leaving for a trip to the US. She noticed they were "covered in mold/mildew". I go on my trip to the US as usual. This was end of October. Fast forward to this past weekend. I mention I'm going boarding in January and she, in passing, mentions that I have to buy all new gear (except the board & bindings) b/c she threw the rest out. She even through out my fucking helmet.

As if not losing ALL the gear was bad enough (Most of it was an accumulation of Xmas gifts over the years, and the bag was paid at an inflated cost since I live in Japan where people love to getting financially sodomized) I wear a size 13 shoe. Chances of finding boots that fit me here? Zero. I could've got them when I was in Cali last month no problem. Instead I now have to pay international shipping. When I told her what new wear costs down at the Burton shop her eyes got big (which is saying a lot since she's Japanese).

I'm pretty sure I have a get out of jail free card now in case I accidentally fuck a 19 year old.

Its getting worse mate or rather, better in this case.

We aint had it down here (seems strange saying down here but you are way North) but we will.

I was living next to a huge hill until recently and i always wished i could board down it but the snow only came once and i had to drive to my g/fs in Wales that morning so i missed out...

UK just is not geared for snow. It effs the place up.

Four or five inches of powder fell outside my house in the last two days which is very unusual for November. I don't live next to a mountain, but did get manage to get a few hours on a local hill today. The kids thought I was cool and I wasn't in the mood for telling them the truth.

More forecast for tomorrow , so I might even get the day off work as I depend on getting around the country..

I'm a web developer for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area(http://www.mammothmountain.com)... so some of the best 'white stuff' in the US is right out my backdoor! Hell... we've been getting hammered (4-6 feet of fresh this weekend with more on the way) all weekend!

If any of you other skiing / boarding enthusiasts are located in CA, or want to visit, shoot me a PM. I can hook it up with Lift Tickets.
I'm down, I'm pretty far from snow down here in Tampa, but love to ride.

Yes please post as often as you like. These will help me maintain my sanity in the flatlands of nowhere.

I looked into Real Estate in Mammoth and the surrounding areas today at the office. Bordering on Yosemite is simply amazing and it seems that at any direction you go, there are many great places to explore and visit. It also seems like life is just better there, no matter what you are doing.

Definitely checking into the area for eventual relocation. Thanks Seosly, looking forward to many more pics. Your super lucky to be there. Thanks again

Yup, but it was an exceptional season last winter. If you look for more Youtube vids you will see that visibility is normally a problem. Knowing where the best snow is is also a bit of a pain in the ass if you don't stay local to the slopes. We aren't guaranteed the same kind or amount of snow as America or the Alps (They're fair weather folk ) and it's normally windy and wet here.

Dude, that DJTruck looks AWESOME!
I'm from Denmark, where we don't have any mountains whatsoever - so I've taken matters in my own hands, and will be spending 5 months in the snow in Austria with 3 of my buddies. Leaving in a week. DAMN, I'm excited! Also, I'm planning on getting some gigs down there
