People talking to you when you're mixing. Posted on: 17.03.2012 by Audrey Pinda Okay. So played out at my first house party the other evening
. Lugged my 1200's, Serato, Computer... all that jazz and blasted a 5pm-1am set out (house/dubstep/dnb/breaks all over the place honestly, but worked it well). My good buddy got there around 9pm and hooked up his SCS w/ Traktor and we went back and forth for the rest of the evening.Something I've never realized before, and have been TERRIBLE about doing to my friends? Talking to people when mixing. Dude, fucking hell. Props to everyone who deals with that shit. Was my first time ever having to deal with that. I've honestly just mixed at home, or with friends in their homes up to this point. Shit is difficult. More difficult that I thought. Probably the biggest lesson learned of the evening . Conversations in the middle of mixing is terrible for all parties involved. | |

Like this weekend i did a school dance for a school and kids coming up to me can you play this or that or i have my ipod can i plug it in so you can play this tune. i was like get lost lol i didn't say it but was believeing it lol but i did my best to stay cool and look professional. |
Lilliana Perris 19.06.2012 | "Tits on Request" That is the winner. |
Reda Holdsworth 16.06.2012 | I used to have a small sign that said "please write all requests on $20 bills... Thanks" Need to break that one out again. |
Janella Gripe 09.06.2012 | Seems legit |

Eleonor Janski 07.06.2012 | At least at the club I am to spin at we have a bouncer by the dj booth... so all we have to concentrate on is mixing, song selection, reading and interacting with the crowd :P |
Ashlea Retzlaff 11.04.2012 | i practice this by doing recorded sets at home while talking on aim and checking fb/twitter. |
Willia Subotic 10.04.2012 | My pet hate is someone comes into the booth trying to talk to you, you tell them to hang on whilst riding the pitch fader on the cdj mid beat match and then they knock you pushing the pitch fader out again!!! :@ I have found the best tactic is to have headphones on fully and pretend you can hear them . . |
Latoria Kavulich 04.04.2012 | @ warrenpaul please get rid of the soundcloud player in your sig. cheers mate. |
Eleanore Hartmeyer 03.04.2012 | Had a mate of mine come up when I was cueing in another track at a party, completely threw me off by asking me for a song and grabbing me by the neck all jolly, when I had said wait a minute He didnt understand either what was involved when I explained it to him, so annoying. Notepad and pen next time! |
Rolanda Clodfelder 02.04.2012 | Play something good will ya ... Generally I just pretend I'm listening ... or press sync LOL |
May Artman 01.04.2012 |
The only shit that's REALLY bad for me is at house parties when people are completely incoherently drunk and there's no security to get them the fuck out, everything else is annoying but manageable. |

The absolute WORST is when you demonstrate that you don't have the latest chart topper by one direction, and they insist that you can just go on the internet and download it. One of the many major upsides of doing vinyl only sets from time to time! On getting fanny whilst DJing - it's a myth. There's no way you can function as the DJ and get your game on with the girl who's stood in the booth with you (unless you're particularly lucky). However, that's what afterparties are for |

Sad isn't it ? But on the other hand I can also really appreciate it that they leave me the fuck alone behind the decks. |

Alla Bluemke 18.03.2012 | you have got to deal with that. Being a club Dj people want to high five, tell you how awesome you are, how much you suck, what they want to hear. Promoters are coming to talk to you, owners, photographers in the booth shooting photos, friends who came to see you. So the 5 mins you have to mix a track in properly and find a new track disappears really really fast. |
Trista Karle 18.03.2012 | Have a wife and kid I'm used to mixing while multi tasking. Plus years ago would spin with friends be 4 or 5 drinking taking turns dropping records. Think comes with experience and if naturally can multi task will make easier |
Lang Abriel 18.03.2012 | Haha I just recently ran into this problem too, somebody really wanted to hear "everyday I'm shuffling" or one of those LMFAO songs...and completely missed my cue for the next song, kinda made it work but the first song literally faded naturally to a new vocal haha. I got pretty lucky by just smashing play and making it sound like it was on purpose. |
Erica Charvet 18.03.2012 | If I'm in the middle of a transition, I just tell them to hold on one moment. They usually get it when if I'm heavily involved in the mixer. If they get mad, they usually just don't understand. So as soon as you're done, apologize and explain what you were doing. |
Addie Engbrecht 18.03.2012 | I'm terrible at multi-tasking, but some of my friends are pretty good at mixing and talking/taking requests at the same time. My friends, who dnt DJ, believe that being a DJ means you can get a lot more ass. They dnt realize you dnt have time to talk, let alone spit proper game. I get way more vagina just going to the club vs. DJ'n at the club. |
