Launchpad Mega Mapping with visual feedback
Launchpad Mega Mapping with visual feedback Posted on: 08.10.2010 by Ignacio Rutner Here's my new 4 deck mapping for the Launchpad with full visual feedback.I started off making this as a supplement to my KX1 but I have been loving the bigger buttons and visual feedback so it has almost taken over the KX1. Images below show complete mapping and default state. Summary: - 4 Deck Control with visual feedback on nearly every element - Automatic full screen browser mode - Preset selector to load up to 6 different Chained FX combo's - Full loop control with feedback states on loop set and active - 8 cue point access with out shift. Use shift to Remove and change CUE type - Cue points also color coded - Greed=Grid, Yellow=Load, Red=Cue, Green=Loop and OFF for NO Cue point - Cue, Play with Feedback RED for OFF, Green for ON - Temp Cue set and CuePlay - Orange Track end warning light The only thing outstanding is 4 chained effect combo's. I've done 2 and am still looking for good combo's to program, so if anyone has recommendations I'd be willing to put them in. Download here: http://www.soundtemple.com.au/midi.html | |

I'm kinda happy with my set-up, but I'm liking the idea of having colour co-ordinated cue point LEDs to correspond with cue point types. At the moment mine are all red (or unlit if no cue point is present), can you talk me through how you get your cue points to correspond colour wise please? Thanks in advance |
Simone Mensing 01.11.2010 | omg im so excited for pc version. |
Ignacio Rutner 31.10.2010 | ^^ I am working on the PC version now :-) Aviator, good to know re the X-Fader. Let me know how you go with those slower faders. |

Ignacio Rutner 31.10.2010 | I am trying a PC version now on my old DELL laptop and the main page is working fine but the page switching is not. Is there any known issues with PC vs MAC switching .tsi's and midi mapping? I thought it all should be compatible? I did read something on Send Monitor State with PC's being a prob and that would explain some of the issues I am having now. |

Ignacio Rutner 30.10.2010 | Sorry man. This version is MAC. I should have mentioned that. I can easily make it PC compatible just haven't got to it yet. |

Ignacio Rutner 29.10.2010 | Thanks for testing Aviator. In response to your minor gripes 1. I have fixed the browser issue. You can use the shift button to close. Load a track will also close. 2. I have slowed the fader speed and increased resolution for greater control. I like better this way so thanks for that suggestion. Feels like more precise control. 3. Happy to consider the X-Fader idea - perhaps peeps could suggest a spot for this as I cant see it working in current state. The new version includes 1. The 4 Deck Control Page (like 4 Midi Fighters) 2. The Mixer Page 3. The FX Page for complete control of 4 FX on 4 Decks 4. The Screen Saver page - for fun and keeping meddling hands off your kit :-) I am also waiting for the S4 with baited breath but I would like to believe that TraktorPad will still have a role to play just like a midi fighter can add some value to your DJ experience- giving you extra control and features. It gives me the best of all worlds for whatever gig type I have 1. Internal mode - DJ with just your Launchpad 2. External mode- DJ with your Launchpad and a DJ mixer 3. Combined mode - DJ with your S4 and Launchpad for maximum kontrol!!!!! DOwnload here: http://soundtemple.com.au/mt-traktorpad.php |
Monet Licorish 24.10.2010 | Well this has taken me a wee bit longer than I hoped to post a reply but I've been playing with TraktorPad for the last week and I have to say I'm really impressed. I've used Ableton up until recently but am fast becoming a convert to Traktor, although I do hope to combine the two in the not too distant future.. So what is it like? For me, its pretty much fantastic - The Launchpad is the only controller I have right now until I can decide between S4/New Denon / Xone DX. I've been using MidiKatapult (which I paid for) and that was a usable tool but absolutely needed mouse and Launchpad. Rishi's Traktorpad (which is free) on the other hand, IMHO beats MidiKatapult hands down........by a mile! I can use it to control pretty much everything and the way Rishi has mapped it, I don't even have a wish to move anything around right now. I only have 3 (very) minor gripes: (1) The open/close tree function only opens, it doesn't close it and I believe, going by the graphic, that it should also close it - It fine if you want to load a track because it then goes back to the deck view but if you need to have a quick look back at how long the playing track has to go you cant (my sole mouse click) (2) The faders on the mixer page are just a bit too quick for my liking but you can overcome that by tapping the buttons (3) No crossfader - this is down to personal preference again (and the fact that my wee stubby fingers aren't so great at multitasking) Any bugs spotted? Well yes, I believe so, but I can't recreate it and it's only happened 3 times. While bringing the fader on deck B down slowly, by tapping it, the track started stopping and starting as I tapped. Weird but I have been trying to recreate for the past 2 hours and it hasn't done it... My Launchpad was basically a block of plastic with Traktor and now it's turned into a cracking piece of kit Take a bow for your hard work Rishi - I love this and it's defo easing my pain right now while I wait and see what peeps believe of the S4 when it comes out so I can decide what to get |
Ignacio Rutner 23.10.2010 | Soon :-) TraktorPad is pretty much ready just want make a video LivePad is for ableton and still needs some work ScratchPad is for Serato but designed to be a tool to work with the Bridge. I will put TraktorPad back up in the next day or so. Were you interested in the Traktor or Ableton one? |
Vella Demario 23.10.2010 | Hello Rishi, Im damm interested in giving your template a go, but when I go to the link and click Live Pad , it says coming soon. Any word when the download will be back up? Ed |
Ignacio Rutner 17.10.2010 | Thanks for persevering with my mapping!!! I have just finished work on the FX page and the fun screensaver page. Will post more details soon. |
Monet Licorish 17.10.2010 | I am VERY pleased to confirm that you need to be running version 1.2.6 for the mapping to work Thanks to Rishi for persevering with me on this. Big up to you buddy!! Now off to have some fun I'll report in soon.. |
Ignacio Rutner 17.10.2010 | Thats fine. The ones we use are MT Player ST Virtial IN and OUT. Here's how it looks here. For some reason peeps arent seeing the content of the .tsi appear in Traktor and I dont know why. I am using 1.2.6 and I have read peeps having probs with loading .tsi's with older versions especially if before1.2.4 PS: I havent installed it on a PC yet but I cant see why it wouldnt work. |

Try importing it again but use the import button down the bottom near setup wizard instead of the Add button underneath the Device drop down MT TraktorPad is correct. Asterix is ok. Make sure Port Name: IN: Bome's Midi Translator 1 Virtual IN is matched with MIDI IN PORT: MT Player ST 1 Virtual IN In the next update that shouldnt appear, but it is fine the way it is. I am almost finished the next page - FX for 4 Decks'n'4FX. Let me know how you go. To me its pretty clear the .tsi is the problem from what you have shown me. |
Monet Licorish 17.10.2010 | You're right - I'm so bloody close its driving me nuts! LOL Here is what I see in Controller Manager (notice no mappings) MT Player correctly shows TraktorPad (I'm assuming the * showing is ok?) One thing I have now noticed though is that I cant see the Bomes 1 Virtual OUT on the MIDI port assignment config.....could this be the problem? Really appreciate your help with this Rishi, I'm determined to get this sorted as it looks like it this is EXACTLY what I need to make my launchpad a bit of usable plastic at last |
Ignacio Rutner 16.10.2010 | Sounds like you are close. Pressing Session User1 and Mixer will bring up blank screens. You need to press User2 to access the Traktor presets. I installed it on 3 Mac's at work yesterday so I'm pretty sure you should be able to get it working. Here are some things to check... First exit all and open them in this order 1. Connect Launchpad 2. Open MT Player ST 3. Open Traktor Things to check:- 1. Make sure soundcard prefs are set and working too 2. Make sure both .tsi's are set to MT Player ST 1 for IN and OUT ports 3. Make sure you have selected the TraktorPad preset in MT Player ST 4. Check User/Documents/Bomes Midi Translator/Player ST folder exists with 3 files Did you select Ports in the Port Chooser - They come up automatically when you run for the first time? There are two drop down boxes on a small green window. If all the above fails you may have assigned the ports incorrectly. You can right click on MT Player and select Midi Settings to reconfigure. Select Port each Name from the drop down box and match in the Midi Port below. See Table. If the OK is greyed out the use Cancel - It means it was mapped correctly. Good Luck!!! let me know how you go |
Monet Licorish 16.10.2010 | Damn, I've followed the instructions to the letter and still nothing there I can now see midi activity from within Traktor so it knows I'm pushing them buttons :-) Just cant work out why there is nothing mapped when I import the .tsi - Have tried re-downloading the file but the same thing happened :-( |
Ignacio Rutner 16.10.2010 | If there are two .tsi's then you are using the TraktorPad version. There is a Read Me with instructions for set up. You need to install the MT Player ST.dmg (Mac). (.exe PC) Copy the Bomes folder to documents Open the MT Player assign ports Then open Traktor and import the .tsi The In an Out ports for the .tsi should be assigned to MT Player ST 1 and not Launchpad I will make and install video and write better dock when finished but hopefully the PDF in the download will be sufficient to help you get it set up. (it's worth the effort :-) |

Kandy Ahdoot 15.10.2010 | where is the new update on the site? just downloaded the one in the link but its the same as the first mapping no mixer? |
Ignacio Rutner 15.10.2010 | UPDATE: New Version I have put together a multipage version that includes a mixer. I have also updated the original 4 Deck Mega mapping slightly . You can download both from... http://www.soundtemple.com.au/midi.html This is the additional Mixer Page layout. The Mixer page - Stepped EQ's that are color coded so you can tell where you are - Stepped Filter control and reset that is also color coded - Volume fades - All Up, All Down and buttons in between to slide - 8 Cue point access via toggle color coded 1-4 = Orange 5-8 Green - Lo Cut hold This version requires a little extra set up but adds features that you can achieve with Launchpad and Traktor midi mapping alone. |
