Native Instruments AUDIO 4 DJ
Posted on: 15.01.2009 by Predrag Mladenovic
Based on the acclaimed AUDIO 8 DJ interface that is also at the heart of Native Instruments' TRAKTOR SCRATCH DJ system, the new AUDIO 4 DJ offers a 4-in/4-out configuration with the same pristine audio quality, but with an even smaller footprint and at a more affordable price. Two stereo inputs with software-switchable phono preamps allow DJs to connect turntables, CD decks and music production gear for various live performance and recording purposes. Two stereo outputs provide the necessary connectivity for routing two decks into an external DJ mixer, or outputting a separate master and cue signal when mixing in software. All audio connections are in RCA format for straightforward interfacing with DJ gear .

Dude seriously you need to study the Pricing Structure and Software Requirements of Traktor 3/Scratch and Traktor Scratch Pro.

You cannot make Traktor 3 work with Timecode unless you buy Traktor Scratch. This is no longer available from N.I. but you can find it in some Music Stores worldwide. There is no ability to just upgrade 'softwarewise' or just buy the Scratch plug-in.

If you purchase the Audio 4 on its own you will still HAVE to purchase the TSP Upgrade for Audio 8 Owners (consult Sales Dept first). When you take it all into account i believe (from memory) the saving is around 30euros. The Upgrade package does not include the Multicores.

Hope that helps. I realise that the whole thing is rather confusing.

no problem. ean just wrote me back regarding the delay/audio drop thing and it's not related to the audio card or latency at all. just an issue with the effect when engaging it. so with that out of the way the audio 4 dj has been perfect. no problems at all and sounds great!

i have my audio 4 dj at 5.5 but have switched back and forth between that and around 8. i've had it lower at home and didn't have any problems with it either except for this small audio drop out when i select the delay effect on my vci-100se that sometime occurs at any latency setting. i'm not sure if that's a audio card issue or not. i'm tending to believe not but who knows. still trying to sort that out. that's on traktor 3.4.

i have a macbook 2.2 intel with 2 gig ram.

so overall i've been happy with the audio 4. played live with it 4 times now doing 4/5 hour sets and it's been solid.

What kind of latency are you getting with the Audio 4 and / or Audio 8?

I'm able to use my M-Audio FW 410 at a latency 5.5 ms with my 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM laptop. I am interested in purchasing one because of it's size and build, but I would hope that it would perform just as good if not better than a latency of 5.5 ms.

Why not just upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro and get the Audio4? You're going to need to purchase a soundcard and Traktor Scratch anyway...might as well get the latest version.

So, yeah, it supports timecode.
hi i'm new to the community ... i own a traktor 3.3... I've heard that it has as well an activable timecode option. If I activate that, do you believe it would work with an audio4dj (i have the possibility to buy one used)? Or only with the audio8dj?

thank you

its a toss up between the big 8 and the small 4. I'm still at a stand still.

But then again I tend to OVER analyze LOL

I have one and it's great.

Small, solid, and sounds crystal clear with 4 to 5 ms latency.

They are in the US everywhere. After my new computer comes in I will be buying the A4. I couldn't imagine NI dropping the ball on this. It would hurt too many hearts.

The latency is the measurement of the delay between actions you take in software and the response of the hardware, in this case. the 4ms means that when the computer starts playing a track it takes 4 milliseconds for the hardware to process it and spit out the audio.

4ms is VERY good. Most likely you won't need anywhere near that and can free up processor power by setting it to 10 to 15 ms. But that's really a personal preference thing.

I haven't used the Audio4 but I live on my Audio8 and it works like a charm.

I've been looking for a sound-card for the past few days... I'm believeing about the NI Audio 4.

Has anyone tried this one out, do you like it?

Also, what is latency in regards to a soundcard... I've heard this card has like a 4ms latency.. what does that mean?

If I am not interested in Traktor Scratch or timecoding, but am interested in the potential to add more midi controllers down the line, does it make sense to rather get the Audio 8 as a first-time external sound card, or is the Audio 4 and an upgrade to Traktor Pro rather the way to go?

I can`t belive how low price is in USA. I found on guitarcenter audio 4 dj for only 200$ and apply code from site retailmenot.com EXTRATEN and you have it for 180$ with free shipping, I believe. In Europe it will be around 250eur with shipping. I am seriously believeing to buy it because only alternative is MAYA 44 usb (if yu have some other suggestion please advice -need only to mix it with traktor no inputs and other stuff). I`ll have someone to bring audio4dj from state , like hd25 and stuff from djranking s.

If I drank too much, the last thing I do is long onto a community where I have the power to control things (y'know, like who isn't banned )

And I guess, at the time, it was too late/early, but really my brain must have ceased "reading comprehension" functions, or it decided to make me look like an idiot.

at least, moreso than I do on my own
