Yeah, all can be found on the websites of Akaipro.com and Ableton live.

Ableton website features a matrix in which the differences are set out against each other version.
(I believe this has also been written in one of the earlier pages. )

Will the APC 40 have it's own bundled Ableton software? I've been holding out for Live 8. Is the bundled software going to be different than Live 8 (If so, are there any major limitations? I plan to use this controller mostly for production rather than performing) Also, what's the deal with no midi i/o on this unit? Should that be a concern?
Thx!

And for another instance, this is a thread on the akai apc 40.

GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND

There are tons of posts and comparisons out there. Come on man. Do a LITTLE legwork yourself, please?

There's different names, interfaces, programming structure, abilities, price, companies, colors, communities, production, you might want to go and do some research.

You will need an external sound card with dual stereo outputs to pre-listen.

Is the functionality well suited for live sets, DJing? It seems like ableton is subpar compared to tractor pro for DJing capabilities, am I comparing apples and oranges?

Thanks,
The VCI-100 is not a soundcard...

It needs an external soundcard as far as I know. (Ofcourse you will be able to make do with an ASIO4All soundcard.

Ableton being subpar to traktor with DJing... I believe it comes down to, how you DJ/perform.
(Try comparing Moldover, who uses Ableton to remix, with Ean Golden, who turntablism-a-like routines by using Traktor).

Being that this controller is designed for Ableton, does not mean you can't use it with Traktor though.

It comes with a watered down version of Ableton - with the functionality somewhere between Ableton LE and Ableton Live.

You could use it with Traktor Pro if you wanted to without the need for the software it comes with too.

Yes, you could connect them both at the same time.

dude i saw this thing on the namm 2009 video and since then i cant stop believeing about it. there are a few online stores that are already selling them and as soon as i get my check from work im buying one 4sure.
i have 2 questions, is it necessary to have Ableton live 7 or some version of ableton for it to work or does it come with software you can use out of the box?
and also i have a vci-100, would i be able to connect both the vci-100 and the apc40 to my mac and use them at the same time??

thanks for the help in advance

Hmmm how about the vcm600 + the korg zero 8 + this baby = just for show...yeah and what Bento mentioned above about rotary knobs is a bit off a turn off...Hey Luis when you played with the VCM-600 were the knobs rotaries or were they non-rotaries?

I believe the list is going to be about 499$ usd.
