mtv: GC nationwide are not officially releasing the apc40 until the 30th.

My access notwithstanding.

@Monika

Do you have access to one yet? Do you know if your local GC is selling yet?

*lost* really? ...i believe you have to map it on Bomes to get the LED to work. I could be wrong!

Shouldn't be too big of a problem, I guess.

I'm curious as to how it maps with Traktor Pro, esp, the LEDs.

Haven't had a chance to power it on but just by touching, the pads seem pretty nice and the buttons are clicky. Not a big deal but there is a tiny hole in the centre of the arrow pad. Not a big deal but aesthetically doesn't look as good as the hole not being there. The faders remind me of the vci-100. It's a bit stiff but I'm quite sure that with use it'll ease up.

Don't let the massive box fool you, it's not as big. It's also lighter than I expected. I'll upload pictures later on toevening .

have you tried by any chance your local GC? I have a pretty good hookup but still have not been able to get them to budge. If you have a hook I will drive up...

The local Guitar Center has 5 of them in stock but cannot release until the May 30. Drag....

I am on the list to receive one of the first five though so that is good news. I wonder why the delay for some and not others.

nah, who needs Live if you have traktor.

Just remap it for that one... I know I'm gonna try it.

15.05.2009
I want one, but i'm not a big Live user.

Plus I'm not about to pony up the $450 needed for the full version of Live in order to get the most out of this APC40 unit. i hear it comes with a 'special' 8-track, 8-FX APC40 version of Live (heard from @Akai_Pro via twitter).

i'll stick with my monomes for the moment.

There was a Momome vs APC thread on that community that it was fairly apparent that no one one knew what they were talking about there. I did a post in there that you guys would probably find interesting

That's not to say it shouldn't support midi either though because if it only supported OSC then it wouldn't be of much use in many programs because not as many programs support OSC as compared to midi.

To show off this difference lets consider a extreme example for a second - say that that you wanted to change every single light on the unit at once. I am pretty sure i remember reading somewhere that the APC-40 has somewhere around 350 lights. now, with the midi spec sending only 1000 messages only a second this will limit you changing 1 LED per every 1ms. In total it would take 350ms so it would take a third of a second from the first light on the unit changing to the last light on the unit to change. This is just one example of the problems that the midi specification has and why we need the HD midi spec yesterday not sometime in the random future. Admittedly 350ms might not be the exact number as i don't have the hardware to test with at this stage but what is important to understand is that this is just one of the big problems that the midi spec has

The problems that the industry is facing at the moment is summed up quite well in this article Ean Golden wrote in words that everyone can understand : http://www.djranking s.com/2009/05/0...-the-end-pt-2/

So as far as the software goes the Monome wins when it comes to sheer performance.

I really want one, considering what it can allow me to do, its pretty frackin affordable. Need to get better with ableton, but still using it as a second controller in TPro should still be sweet.

Nice piece of controllerism

We will be teaching people to do some cool stuff with the APC as soon as we can get our hands on a unit, that should be some good fun family fun for everyone

I can't waitttt I have a nice project for my next setup.. tell me what you believe.

macbook pro 15" with traktor pro controlled with a Stanton SCS.1D in "external mixer" mode, routed via software into 2 or 4 channels of live 8 used as the mixer and additional effects, controlled by the apc40. Audio Kontrol 1 for the sound and additional tracks in ableton for samples, loops, microphone and record.. naturally with 2 screens one for TPro an the other for ableton..

tell me your opinions!

bye

ps: thanks for the avatar I love it!

Which is the online shop in europe that has the lower price? In italy the price is around 450-470 euros  but in europe there is no extra shipping taxes so if anyone knows a good shop..

Well, tbh, it's still a Japanese company...

I have a tendancy of adding a month to release dates of japanese companies.
(Own experience for working in a japanese multinational.)

But, I can't wait to have mine too.

Depends, it will be more than enough if you fix it like step sequencers and lanching clips.

Recording clips, you might want to resort to MIDI keyboards.
(Though Ableton has a sleek convert keyboard to MIDI function)

does ableton really come with enuf sounds to make any style of music you want i'm wondering if i'd still need to invest in some sample library, NI's Battery, vst's or something for more sounds?
Ableton Suite comes with nice add on sound VSTs. You will be able to make a nice start.
Ofcourse it will become better with VSTs and samples of your own preference.
what sounds are ppl like calvin harris, diplo and sebastian tellier using to make beats? do they make the beats b4 putting them into ableton?
You will probably never know, but somehow will come close to eventually. The only thing you'd might know once, is if they build their beats in Ableton, or prepare them first in Fruity Loops, Logic, Reason and so forth.
lastly - if people are able to remix and/or mash using this apc/ableton duo, do they get a shit load of acapellas or is there a way to isolate teh vocals?
Shit load of a capellas mostly.
Isolating vocals is not that great, of you do succeed, they will mostly sound like shit anyways.
i downloaded a trial version of live and it does have a large selection of sounds and kits. so i guess live 8 (or even 7) has more than enuf to make some electro/future disco style beats
True, but it is always nice to add some VSTs every once in a while, just to broaden your horizon.

Ya, they were saying akai is shady when it comes to bringing stuff on time. They had a whole tonne of stuff on back order for months still. Ah well, being a student, the more time they save from me, the more time i have money from the bank. It will hurt a bit when i pick it up but like the vci-100, it'll be worth it after i start delving into it. By the way, just got the firmware upgrade kit! Can't wait to get my serial cable and upgrade it to 1.4 when the time comes!

Well, I will be receiving my APC40 straight of the first pallet to arrive in the Netherlands(by promise of the dutch distributor), so I am hoping this will also be done May 1st.

Still I am keeping it save with the half of June. I know the Japanese a bit too well when it comes to shipping and releasing.

Moog Audio in Toronto says it's to be released May 1. Haven't had much experience with Ableton when it comes to DJing but hopefully the controller would be a medium learn it on.
