Claiming warranty on shitty laptop. Posted on: 03.09.2011 by Glennie Hoppenstedt So I got a laptop at the start of the year from a dealer here in New Zealand called Dick Smith. It's my first year at uni and my parents can't help me out much as they still have my two brothers at home and a huge mortgage. So instead of helping me pay for uni they said they'd buy me a laptop for uni if I left my old PC at home for my brothers which is a decent computer.Because I didn't want to set my parents back any more than necessary, and coz I only wanted a laptop powerful enough for music apps and to do uni work on, I just decided to pick a cheapie. It was on sale for $900, so it wasn't the cheapest by far but it certainly wasn't one of the higher end ones going for 1.5k+. It's an e-machines laptop with pretty poor specs. It's been hardly half a year now and it's had frequent episodes where it would just spontaneously and regularly die on me. Like I'd be browsing firefox of playing with traktor and all of a sudden... Blackness. It just turns off without warning. Then when you'd turn it on it'd do the same thing again within 5 or 10 mins repetitively until you gave it at least 8 hours of rest. Then after 16 hours of being left on it'd start doing the same thing again. It did this for ages. The headphone port has been slowly degrading ever since I got it and now finally the port is fucked and it's right speaker output is GONE. I have a left speaker and bass. This thing is a fucking piece of fucking Chinese fucking shit and I want to get rid of it. If I take it back in and try to claim the warranty (3 years) for it they'll probably say that it needs to be inspected and had attempts at being fixed. Or that it needs to be beyond repair or something before I can claim the warranty. Fuck that. I don't want this piece of shit anymore. I want it gone and when I get my money back I want to buy a macbook pro. How can I be able to walk into the store and get my money back instantly? | |

Latoria Kavulich 12.09.2011 | my friend used to shag the manager ;p |
Glennie Hoppenstedt 12.09.2011 | I know for a fact Jester that the Blenheim staff get drunk out back at work along with the manager during open hours. I'm not sure how often but fuck it doesn't surprise that they do -.- I'm gonna take it back in the summer and get my money back and buy an asus =) |
Latoria Kavulich 09.09.2011 | dick smith staff are clueless. i needed some ground loop isolators for our last show, asked one of the young guys if they had any and i swear i could hear the crickets chirping in his head lol. |
Alda Salonga 09.09.2011 | Just tell them the truth! That it's a piece of shit and you want it replaced with a new laptop, one that is worth the same price, or get your money back! Be nice when asking and you'll be surprised. Also check the fine print in your warranty you might be covered for what I call being "massively disappointed". |
Glennie Hoppenstedt 05.09.2011 | New Zealand. Equates to probably about $700 regardless of the fact that what you could get for $700 is still probably far better than what I get for $900. |
Jeanett Zempoalteca 04.09.2011 | $900 is cheap for a laptop ??! Damn your meaning of cheap is completely different from mine |
Aleta Hartzler 04.09.2011 | ^ Too true i paid 700$ for mine and its a beast. i can use it for gaming and traktor, and i got it from best buy so not the cheapest price |
Maisie Marras 04.09.2011 | i had an emaichine desk top. at 900 for a laptop you would be fine, if it wasnt from e machines. good luck. |
Aleta Hartzler 03.09.2011 | on the A2DJ question, yes. if your running windows go to the bottom right hand and right click on the small speaker icon. go to playback devices and choose either Audio 2 DJ(Channel A) or (channel B) and hookup your headphones or whatnot through whichever channel you selected. then click "set as default" and click ok. now all your sound will be routed through the A2DJ channel you selected Just be weary of the volume so a windows alert doesnt blow your speakers to shit. |
Glennie Hoppenstedt 03.09.2011 | Also, is it possible to route my output sound through my A2DJ in the meantime? |
