I need beta-testers...
I need beta-testers... Posted on: 29.08.2010 by Graham Frazier I've got a little piece of software that i made, and i need just a few beta testers to make sure everything works right. The program is really simple, but can be a lot of help to lots and lots of people.Requirements: 1. Must have a Window's computer. (The mac guys don't need this anyway) 2. Must have ANY version of traktor. 3. Must have a controller with LED feedback. 4. Be willing to waste a few minutes to help test this out. 5. Must not say anything until official release. (Hoping for a blog post) The program is an .exe file made with MAX. Your beta will come as a zipped folder including: the program, and all support files for the standalone version of the max runtime. If you have Max 5 already that's nice, but since i wan't this to be available to everyone, i would like all testers to use the standalone version. Anybody who is interested can simply respond with any questions. Or send me a PM. You could send me an e-mail, but i check this site more than my e-mail anyway. Thank you very much. Edit: This software requires Midi Yoke by Midi-OX, which is free and can be downloaded from here... http://www.midiox.com/ You might as well download it anyway, since it is extremely useful. | |

Graham Frazier 23.11.2010 | Sorry that the instructions are so confusing. First it's important that you start the program and set it up before opening traktor. The problem is with the MS synth. To fix it: Open the program, Click File, Midi Setup, Uncheck Microsoft Synthesizer and Microsoft GS Wavetable Synthesizer. Close the Midi Setup window. |
Ashley Guthery 23.11.2010 | I had this problem at first too. But alas, I have forgoten the fix.. either I went and turned the microsoft synth thing off in device mgr or i had the synth picked in some other catigory I wasn't using and just swapped it to somethin else. |
Madlyn Trocino 24.11.2010 | Drew im trying to use this program succseffully. I have all the ports set up and am recieving everything properly. I am able to use my midi cotrollers within TPRO. BUT Why do I hear keyboard notes eveytime I hit the buttons on my controllers? Im assuming it has something to do with Microsoft synth....however there is NO microsoft synth selected in your program !!! Correction - im only able to use ONE cotroller.... Drew I commend you for writing such a brilliant program.....however the intructions on how to use it, are perhaps the most confusing set of instructions on earth |
Simone Mensing 14.10.2010 | Nevermind i just needed to mess with it alittle. |
Simone Mensing 14.10.2010 | I got my Vci 100 hooked up through the midi yoke. but launchpad doesnt seem to be an option for some reason |
Graham Frazier 11.10.2010 | Thanks man, this should do just fine. |
Jeffie Carlow 11.10.2010 | Here is the larger view. If you need .PSD file, it too big to upload here. However, I may e-mail you. If you need, e-mail me at [email protected]. |
Graham Frazier 11.10.2010 | So i believe i have all of the last kinks worked out, and have a really stable app ready. So i'm calling this revision final beta. As mentioned before, the layout has changed just slightly, all i did was rearrange the drop down menu's to make setup a little less confusing. With this revision, you can now deactivate modules 2,3 & 4, with a simple on/off button for each section. I have also added the very requested save feature. It works fairly easily; just set it up how you want, click save, name your file, and put it in the location of your choice. To load; click load, select your previously saved file, then once it's loaded click apply and all of your settings will return to your preferred state. Here's a link to download the latest version... http://www.mediafire.com/?dbyv4ucdb15jvwi I've also attached a pic so you can see what i have changed. Since this may very well be pretty much identical to the final release, please let me know if your are having any problems. |
Graham Frazier 11.10.2010 | New Layout. I rearranged some things to make it mimic the way you setup the ins and outs in traktor. And you can see the on and off buttons for channels 2-4. Tell me what you believe. |
Graham Frazier 11.10.2010 | Thanks that would be great. Unfortunately i've been sick as hell all weekend, so i didn't get everything done that i was hoping. I even took a sick day at work today, which i never do. |

Graham Frazier 10.10.2010 | Yes it will, i use it with my launchpad all the time. It should recognize all midi contollers. If you're using Windows XP, then i believe midi controllers just show up as "USB Audio Device", so you'll have to figure out which is the APC, and which is the LP. |
Kaitlin Zylstra 10.10.2010 | Oh, hahaha I'm sorry about the confusion with the .tsi .. I had two different threads up. Anyways, yeah your program is great. What you mentioned would probably avoid some confusion. I do have a question regarding your program. My friend and I are planning to play together, using one computer with his Novation Launchpad and my APC40 hooked up together. Will your program recognize the Launchpad so I can change the channels to midi yoke 3/4 for his launchpad? |
Graham Frazier 10.10.2010 | What tsi... I don't have a LPD8. Glad to see the issue has been resolved. In one beta version i flipped the "From Traktor" and "To Traktor" ports. Do you believe that this will help avoid confusion in the future?? |
Kaitlin Zylstra 10.10.2010 | I believe I fixed the issue, just had the midi yoke channels mixed up. I love your .tsi .. I have an external mixer though, so I'm trying to make some modifications to the knobs / faders on the APC 40 to control my EFX like you do with your LPD8 |
Graham Frazier 10.10.2010 | Can you post a screen cap pic of your Traktor Control Manager, and another of the app? Just a shot in the dark here, but in the app under File->Midi Setup, you should have everything checked except the window's synth stuff. |
Kaitlin Zylstra 10.10.2010 | downloaded / installed your program and the midi yoke ... set the ports like you said, but now my LED's wont light up? im really confused |
Graham Frazier 09.10.2010 | That's a nice looking icon. Thanks a lot. I should have the final improvements finished this weekend. |

I'm not really sure what the problem is, i really just knew i wanted it to stop. Then I tried everything i could believe of until i started getting results. Since then it's been a long process of refinement until now, where at last there is a solution. I would like to see some icon idea's, so feel free to post some here. |
Branden Wentler 08.10.2010 | JunkTion for some reason pops to mind for a name. I have a feeling though that December updates to TP will make your oh so valiant efforts to fix the crackle/pops obsolete. Nevertheless I am indebted to you for being proactive and designing such a fantastic bit of software. Would you care to elaborate on why Windows users have issues with sending MIDI messages to devices...or how it is implemented in TP. I would make an icon for you if you desire.... Thanks! |
Graham Frazier 07.10.2010 | Thank you guys so much for the feedback. This is why i love dj ranking
s. I'm working on 2 new features at the moment: 1. SAVE!!!!!! (I know it's a pain to set up each time, so i'm working this in) 2. On/Off for each quadrant. (This way if you only need 1 you can turn the other 3 off and won't have to deal with unwanted midi signals) I also need to come up with an Icon, and a name for the app? Any ideas/suggestions are always welcome. |
Jeffie Carlow 07.10.2010 | As lavhoes mentioned, it works beautifully. Have not had a problem yet. Our reviews differ however since I did have to turn off UAC in order to install the MIDI Yoke software. But other than that, no problems and have since fully customised all my LEDs to work according to phase metres, master levels, loops, and even cue points in all their own colours. Mention this for the Novation Dicer. Thanks! |
Armandina Tarin 07.10.2010 | Been testing this out for the past week or so. THIS IS A GODSEND. All the pops and crackles whenever I hit the Shift button on my VCI-100SE are GONE, leaving me with smooth, unaltered music no longer disrupted by background noise. Specs: Win 7 Pro 64-bit Audio 2 DJ soundcard M-Audio Studiophile AV40 monitors Sony MDR-V6 headphones VCI-100SE Traktor Pro 1.24 Installation notes: -Installation was a BREEZE. Did NOT need to disable UAC like you had recommended to install MIDI Yoke; I tried just giving it a straight install, clicked Yes on the popups, and rebooted when asked. Showed up in my Control Panel without incident, though I didn't need to adjust anything to get it working. Program notes: -Definitely need a way to save configurations. This would be my number 1 pet peeve, as right now I leave the program running to avoid having to reconfigure everything when I load it back up. I also need to reconfigure all 4 input/outputs, because: -The program detects some type of Microsoft Synthesizer, which for whatever reason decides to connect to my controller if I only adjust the top left quadrant's options. For instance, here's my setup: From Traktor: Midi Yoke 1 To Traktor: Midi Yoke 2 From Controller: VCI-100SE To Controller: VCI-100SE but the rest of the quadrants will say things like "From Controller: Microsoft Synthesizer" or something similar. Readjusting them all to say "VCI-100SE" is no problem, but if I leave it be, Traktor plays a little piano key every time I hit a button on my controller, which was hilarious the first time I used the program but got old fast the dozen other times I reload the program when I saw I had to re-enter everything to stop this from happening. Though again, switching them all to say VCI-100SE gets rid of it, it's just a chore having to do it every single time I load up the program. Summary: These are the only issues I've found so far. Have left it running for days now, and has worked every single time flawlessly. No crashes or other bugs to report. Add in a way for it to save what I put in and it'll be perfect. Also, maybe have it default to leaving the other three quadrants blank (unless something is input by the user) so it doesn't automatically align itself to other "controllers" it finds, to make it easier for new users. Again, this program is a GODSEND and you are the MAN for putting this together. I can't thank you enough! |

Download the MIDI Yoke NT 1.74 Installer. 2. Run "MSCONFIG" from the Run-menu (Win+R). 3. Go to the "Tools"-tab and select "Disable UAC". 4. Press "Launch". Close the CMD-window. 5. Restart your computer and install MIDI Yoke Wink And here's how to setup my app... "In Traktor's Control Manager, set your "In-Port" and "Out-Port" to 2 different channels on Midi Yoke, for each controller. Then in my program you set the "From Traktor" to the same midi yoke as traktor's "Out-Port", and the "To Traktor" to the same midi yoke as traktor's "In-Port". Then in the program you set both "From Controller" and "To Controller" to your controller." Repeat for each device. Thanks again for support, beta testing is almost complete, and all of the bugs seem to be gone. But, please leave all the feedback you can, especially if you find any bugs or the problem where the pops/clicks haven't been fixed. Also if you could give me some feedback on the layout/workflow, it would be very appreciated. |

Graham Frazier 21.09.2010 | Got it, this update should take care of that problem. http://www.mediafire.com/?7oxwcfyuipfw1u6 Thank you for the feedback, this is why it's beta. P.S. - The "To Traktor" and "From Traktor" have flipped positions again(purely cosmetic). Who wants give me some layout idea's. |

Maritza Lefevers 20.09.2010 | I do all my music stuff on a mac but this is really interesting/impressive stuff. Nice work! |
Branden Wentler 20.09.2010 | Midi devices only show up in To Traktor 1 To Traktor 2-4 only show In from MIDI Yoke: x Is this normal? EDIT: Figured out my old setup won't work the same in the new layout. To/From I guess were switched. Stll trying to get other devices to show up. |

Branden Wentler 20.09.2010 | Next time i'm in Cincy i'll get you a evening of beers. |
Graham Frazier 20.09.2010 | I've finished beta version 2, and now it supports 4 DEVICES. I still need to figure out how to save the selections so you don't have to set them each time you open the device. And the final version will have a custom icon rather than the generic max "5". But on a better note this is working very good for me. I did a test with pretty much every LED on the launchpad going crazy, while mixing on a second controller, effects on a third, and cues on a forth. The whole time i didn't get one snap/crackle/pop. So here's the link for the downlaod... http://www.mediafire.com/?z38zmu9q17asp6i Once again its just a standalone max program(max not required), copy the folder out of the .zip, and run the .exe in the folder. Window's only, as this isn't really needed if you have a mac. Read my other post for setup help, or just ask. |
