I need beta-testers...
Posted on: 29.08.2010 by Graham Frazier
I've got a little piece of software that i made, and i need just a few beta testers to make sure everything works right. The program is really simple, but can be a lot of help to lots and lots of people.

Requirements:
1. Must have a Window's computer. (The mac guys don't need this anyway)
2. Must have ANY version of traktor.
3. Must have a controller with LED feedback.
4. Be willing to waste a few minutes to help test this out.
5. Must not say anything until official release. (Hoping for a blog post)

The program is an .exe file made with MAX. Your beta will come as a zipped folder including: the program, and all support files for the standalone version of the max runtime. If you have Max 5 already that's nice, but since i wan't this to be available to everyone, i would like all testers to use the standalone version.

Anybody who is interested can simply respond with any questions. Or send me a PM. You could send me an e-mail, but i check this site more than my e-mail anyway.

Thank you very much.

Edit: This software requires Midi Yoke by Midi-OX, which is free and can be downloaded from here...
http://www.midiox.com/
You might as well download it anyway, since it is extremely useful.

No problem man. Thanks for the kind words.

An update for everybody.
I'm going to see if the problem still exist with traktor 2. If it doesn't, then this will be the final version of the app. If the problems are still there, then i will do a revamp of this one and finally make an official release... still free.

You're a lifesaver, this fixes every problem I've encountered in traktor with my APC40. I can finally DJ live without use of an apple product.

Hi,
So after installing your program, and figuring out the ins and outs in Midi Yoke, I've got my controller working through TSP like it was without your program, no major differences in anything, and my main problem is still there. Its not when I'm doing anything controller heavy or anything at all... If I just let a single beat play on one deck, its obvious that ever so often, the whole laptop just pauses for a second... but I posted up about it in General Discussion too, so thanks for your program anyway! peace

My problem: I just got a VCI 100 Arcade Edition 1.4 fw, TSP (updated to newest version), and Audio8Dj (2.0.15 Driver due to bad reviews of new driver), on a brand new Dell I7 2.8ghz Latitude Laptop with 4GB of Ram. When using TSP, with VCI100se set to Midi In and Out, and Latency around 5-8ms, on the newest DjTT TSI, at somewhat random times, the audio coming out pauses for a second or so, also it visually pauses on the screen. It has seemed mostly random, ocurring about 10 times last evening during my first time trying it with music at a friends house. This has also caused one total crash/loud buzz while in Fader FX mode. I'm a pretty big knob turner/pitch slider/FX maniac, so this is driving me insane, I don't believe I could ever gig with a problem like this. Does this sound like something your App would fix??

I believe I understand your app's main solutions seems to be LED related, but it seems like a Midi fixer too, and from what I've managed to learn from researching my problem, the lags and problems I have seem to be a PC Midi Traktor issue. Again, I may be barking up the wrong tree, but I'm just trying to get this brand new Dell, Brand New TSP, and this Custom Arcade Controller, since I just payed a little over $2,000 total for all of it, to work somewhat normal in a normal gigging situation! Doesn't feel like too much to ask. Almost feel like returning everything and just switching to Serato, but I really believe this is gonna be at least 10X better than Serato if it works right!

Thanks in advance! This seems to be the promised land of digital DJ knowledge! I have faith in you guys! Really hoping for a reply on this...

Try out my app and see if it works. From the problems you're describing, it sounds like my app will fix all of that. You can download the current version on page 7, post #69, of this thread. And instructions on setting it up are scattered throughout the thread.
And don't be discouraged with traktor; the problems you are experiencing are 100% Windows fault.

Well maybe it's just my computer (Core duo 2 GHz with 2 Gb of RAM) but when I use midi-ox with my APC40 and VCI-100 with traktor, it slows my tracks down (like they play at 75% the speed they should). This issue goes away if I turn off the Monitor PFL outputs, but those are what's causing the crackle. I'm not very experienced with Mici-OX so it may be something I'm doing, though it does appear to be working properly.

It works, man, thank you very much!!! If you don' t mind I included your solution in my Traktor mapping package for APC 20 that I posted in NI community s here: http://www.native-instruments.com/fo...206#post786206

I will need to make more tests, (I tested it just for 15 minutes or so), and I will get back to you. Once again: huge thanks!!!

And then you save the preset somewhere, when you need it you press "load" and then click "apply".

Ok that was all very obvious, but I looked under "file" first when I opened the app the first time

However, a question or two regarding the LEDs. I have been experimenting with the APC in 'dumb mode'. However, it seems like I can't get Traktor to recognize the APC after I have placed it in dumb mode and then opened your program, assigned midi yoke to do its thing, and then opened Traktor. If I skip the dumb mode step it works fine.

I really have no desire to put the APC in dumb mode. Its just that I can't seem to figure out how to keep the LEDs staying on after I push a button without it being in that mode. Anyone know how to do one or the other? And/or how do you all have your APCs configured in this regard?

Str8upDrew one last thing. The save feature didn't seem to work for me. It really doesn't matter in my case as I only have one controller to assign but I just thought I would let you know as feedback.

Thanks again!
Well i really don't know much about the APC, maybe one of the people using it with my app can jump in here and help you out.
As for the save feature. Did it not open a standard save screen, like every windows program?
Remember, after you load your saved file, you have to click apply.

Wait a second, if you use the pitch bend with no mapping at all loaded does it do this? This is very creepy. Can somebody test it in midi-ox and see if it's the pitch bend is using a different channel than the rest of the controller?

MAC's do have problems with the way the volume LEDs work on the Vci 300, so there's still an issue...

Look at this: http://www.djranking s.com/community /sho...00+leds&page=4

Post #35 by Morbido, on a MAC and experiencing issues with the LEDs.

PC's have it too, but after I started using the app by Str8upDrew and mapped the volume LED's, the problem is gone.

I don't know how hard it is to make a MAC version of this app? But if it's just like exporting in a different way, I'm very curious if the problem can be solved for the MAC people with a Vci 300.

Edit: I know the app was made just to solve the issue with the "send monitor state" that only PC's have, but as you've seen in my post, it solved an other LED issue too.

Hey this is an interesting statement, could you clarify? Would it be possible for me to use someone's TSI and have LEDs working properly?

EDIT: I've not come across any TSI that had working LEDs for the VCI using my macbook.

I understood it was a limitation of Traktor not the OS, but I'm not entirely clear on the technical issues at play.

If what you say is correct, does it mean if I were attempting to create a TSI for use on a MAC I would therefore have to approach the use of modifiers etc in a different way? Any chance someone could point me in the right direction?

Very interesting developments here guys, keep up the great work!!

It's MidiOx's midi monitor app.
Try the SC2000 with and without my app, and see if the midi messages it sends are different.

Since my app is pretty much just a filter, it doesn't change any of the messages, it really shouldn't have this problem.

Does this happen in traktor when the app isn't being used? It could be a problem with the mapping.
The behavior of the pitchfader does not act up as much when relaying straight between Traktor and the 2000. I say as much because the values will kinda go like 3 steps forward 1 step back--maybe around a .05-.7 regression. Obviously not as bad as when filtered through your fix but something is amiss and I suspect it is the controller. I looked at the output from midiox monitor and there does not appear to be errant signals from the control. Also, I believe the 2000 pitchfader has a 14-bit midi signal. The pitch on my old NDX800 was smooth as butter (both with your app and straight to Traktor) and it was 14-bit as well so :/

Ow, my apologies, I thought it was in a "closed" beta, didn't see it was available.
Thanks for the link, downloaded it, will try it as soon as possible and come back with feedback

edit: You sir, deserve a statue! First Vci 300 mapping with working led-volume-meters is a fact! It works perfectly from what I've seen in my little test. (If you try to map the volume-leds without your app, it gets distorted after the 6th led or something, with you app, I mapped all 24 leds without a problem  )

I haven't used the "send monitor state" command in my mapping either, so it's also usefull if you encounter other problems with your leds.
