I looked it up and it says it is Southern Style rap that you listen to in jail (THE TRAP).

What the hell is this ?:

good stuff. that's what I'm talking about. He took LANA DEL REY (pasty hipster) and dropped her in the ghetto.

CRNKN definitely has some great tunes, and his dubstep stuff if is pretty good too! Flosstradamus is kind of the big name in trap, but I personaly don't like him too much. Here is my current favorite track I've stumbled across:
Delmar Swamy

I believe trap has an identity crisis. Cause I ain't diggin' these bleepy techy tracks. too white. I need it crunk. The sounds are wack and the beats are weak. I was hoping that the TRAP genre would be a lot of edits, and dubs of some raw crunk shit focusing heavily on beats, samples and personal DJ overlays. I am sad to hear a lot of straight up hip hop tracks in these mixtapes (FLOSSTRADAMUS). I feel this is not the aim of this genre. I also don't understand DIPLO. I have never heard anything good from him. Who does he appeal to? All I hear is soulless noise.

Don't have a lot of time to post labels and shit but trap has been around since the early 00's. Maybe earlier. I believe it's just going through a renaissance right now.

All the trap you need. Saw someone posted the Flosstradamus and DJ Sliink song, might as well check out their others. And as for labels picking this stuff up, these guys are on Mad Decent.

Hipnotikk posts here pretty frequently, but I just stumbled across this. I'm with this shit for sure. Kinda has some of the old Chicago Ghetto House flavor with the repeated vocals, not this track necessarily, but some of the others with "booty poppin" talk.

I'm enjoying some of it. A lot of it is "soulless" but it just reminds me of some good party music from the late 90's. Mixes well with the whole UK Bass thing going on right now.

Man, I fucking love DJTT sometimes.

I've been on a trap kick for a little bit. I still have yet to mix it, but it's growing in popularity. It had some presence at Starscape a couple weeks back, and I've heard it's growing big from the south. Living in New England, I haven't heard it out much. There's one local DJ whom I've heard drop some of it, but no one else really.

I'm really adoring it honestly. Good trap is good. It's something that's still extremely bass heavy, even so much as I've shown a couple tracks to people from soundcloud that I adore, and they didn't get it. And when I asked what they were listening on? Laptop speakers. And all I could say was, you're missing 75% of the song lol.

Here's a few tracks I've really been digging lately:

http://soundcloud.com/ball-trap-music/z-x-crnkn-booty-2-the-ground
http://soundcloud.com/an-ten-nae/beatles-come-together-an-ten

I've basically spent the past week or so really trying to get my finger on this. It's still so fresh, there's not a lot out there. But I have a strong feeling that there will be some growth in this sub-genre. It just feels like it would flow really well with that new kind of Moombah sound, and it's different enough from Dubstep but still super bass heavy that it may pull some heads in.

A lot of it sits in the 130-145 BPM range as well, so it's fairly well mixable with a lot of tracks just on the tables, not having to do any funky transition work to get yourself there.

And from what I've been able to tell? This is the newest iteration of booty poppin' music.

This is going places folks, and super happy that there is a thread started about it here

Three songs into the original posters soundcloud link, which I'm enjoying, there was tons of break beat tracks around 96 that had this feel. Not quite florida funky breaks and not electro, but would get squeezed into a florida breaks set. I was a fan of it, the best set I heard of this really thin form of breaks was from DJ Ani from Dee-Lite. Glad to hear that other people have picked up the torch as it makes some serious post 3am noise.
