I looked it up and it says it is Southern Style rap that you listen to in jail (THE TRAP).

What the hell is this ?:

^^I've been putting off getting my first scratch sample record for a few weeks now, I guess now 's as good a time as any. I had a little practice session with a superb scratcher a few weeks ago and he said I really might have a knack for this. So I'm excited to start getting more use out of my turntables.

Might as well practice juggling, backspinning, etc. as well then.

^Ok got it, just a little new to this so finding good combos will come if I give it some time.

I have all my trap around 70bpm, I'm sure I'll get criticized for it since it should be technically 140 but i don't care. I mix trap with rap/hip-hop and dubstep(140) usually goes with electro so having the bpms closer to what i mix is easier for my workflow.

Hip-Hop is generally the same as any other mixing, just shorter transitions....u can cut if you want but you can't just cut on every song in hip hop or trap there has to be a part that sounds good to scratch. You can mix during builds/breakdowns, or drop a new tune on the one. I've found harmonic mixing with trap works really really really well since alot of artist right now are using the same types of sounds. Because alot of sounds are very similar you can get crazy mixes if you find the right pairings. I look for similar high frequency sounds

cutting is not only thing that can be done in hip hop, beatmashinng and otehr stuff can be doen as well. Dj Craze does a lot more than cutting, I do more than cutting. If you look at the New DJ Craze Video for the Z2, hes cutting, cue juggling ad all type of other stuff. Just try it and see what happens

So you cut it ?? Never heard a trap mix, but something tells me cutting trap wouldn't feel right. It sounded not that bad when I was just beatmixing. But there are almost always very distinctive highs and lows present, so I feel like I need to change my EQ workflow a bit, but not quite sure how.

And tnght - higher ground is 160 bpm according to my traktor, and I believe it's accurate. Bummer because the other tracks are 140-145 bpm. So yea, I gotta use my pitch quite a bit.

Could someone explain why the BPM is all over the place ? After all it is the same genre. Mainly "higher ground" has a crazy different BPM.

Or maybe this is normal and I'm used to always spinning music with the same BPM. Also general trap mixing tips are welcome, but it's pretty straight forward right ?
Or should I make a new thread about this since this one is for sharing music only ?
mmmm, usually at 140. maybe 110 or ~87 every now and then.

yeah its pretty straight forward, very formulaic.

Why do American youngsters turn every type of music they like into something idiotic...
I mean, seriously, all you other guys are seeing this too right ?

I really believe my IQ dropped a couple of points from watching the first 5 minutes of that video.

I don't want to come off as a hater, so I'll contribute to the thread as well.

can't wait for this "genre" to die in it's own ass in a years time.

So... Hip-hop style drums, 808s, chopped up skrillex style vocals and redundant samples needs an entire sub genre of it's own? You can tell a genre is shit when it's this young and sooooo many names come up so quickly all sounding the exact same.

It'ds not as if this style really brought anythign new to the table, looking back at very recent subgenres...

We had moombahton/moombahcore; which was great because it's like slowed down electro house and EDM hadn't really seen that style before tempo wise, some of it brought in much more foreign vibes. Hell, Trap sounds like a slowed down very formulaic version of moombahton sometimes.

Drumstep; just heavy DnB with dubstep drums. Sure, didn't bring much to the table, but it didn't EXPLODE in everyones face like "Trap" has. It wasn't forced.

I have plenty of dubstep tunes that have hip hop influence, drums, and 808's, but it's not "trap". it's just more dubstep. Like this is. But because it got a genre slapped on it, we have idiots left and right trying to do it as quickly as they can.

There are some good tunes, definitely, its all I hear my best buddy play in his car. but the fact that this music is all evening s in my town seem to play now and all i hear all evening is "d-d-d-damn soon damn son" "rundaaatrap" is really shitty.

This style would have pulled off a whole lot better if it hadn't been so... centralized, that it was forced into a sub genre. Take electro-house, there are so many types of electro house now, it's so diverse, and that's what makes it a sub-genre of house. Same with dubstep, there is so much dubstep ranging all over the place from the old subbass stuff to new midrange electro-ish stuff. But there is only one kind of Trap, and that's trap, and I find that stems from the specificity of the genre, the genre doesn't allow for anyone to take it anywhere; as taking it somewhere would result in it quite simply; not being trap.

In the context of it being a branch of dubstep; if we took every specific style of dubstep and made it into a sub genre, like this was, the genre would be in an even worse state as it is now.

Just seems people can't accept that there are simply different styles within a genre, it NEEEDS to be a new genre to create the hype.

/sigh whatever, soon enough people will move onto "135bpm moombahtrap drum dub" or whatever they come up with next.
