"Trap for the masses" - What is that exactly?

I looked it up and it says it is Southern Style rap that you listen to in jail (THE TRAP).

What the hell is this ?:

I hope that is enough of an analysis, I would like to go back to sharing tracks and producers so I can appreciate the genre more.

They are both cross pollinated from many influences with rap being a primary one. Grime I guess would be more garage, dance hall, rap and electro. Trap seems to have a heavy dirty south rap, acid breaks/electro and sometimes dubstep and booty house influence. A track that crosses in between for me at least I mentioned earlier in the thread http://soundcloud.com/ruff-step-fell...cal-djs-sinner I believe the difference in flavor is the side of the pond you are on... they kind of overlap for me in structure and form.

I'm really liking the way things being called trap are developing in a bunch of different ways, it is nice to see something without rigid boundaries and not being broke apart into serious sub-category of genre, any kind of luck and it will stay that way for a bit.

Opposite ends of the spectrum

I know this is a stretch but does anyone know the origins of the dopeman beat? It was originally on a Gangsta Grillz mixtape so I'm assuming it is someone else's song. I would kill for that instrumental.

I kind of see trap as american grime, after some digging and coming to appreciate it. It often has electro, house, and rap influences. What I like about is the different influences, some tracks having a bouncy booty house bassline, others with a glitchy feel and lots of fun rap. It has a tempo to mix with dubstep at will and makes for a nice break from the wub wub of brostep. Over all I approve, and am going to be putting more in my collection.

So the point is that trap has splintered off into a new direction? No shit. Because that's what was said several times in the first page. I'm sorry to hear you don't like it. But you don't have to act like a Dick about it. Saying this sounds like a pasty white kid and all that bullshit is really dumb. I got a kick when you tipped your hat when I posted showstoppa right after you said that pasty white shit. Why? Because girl unit is a fair skinned uk artist. He makes as you would say the techy sounding music.

And for the record just because you started the thread doesn't mean you control the flow. You asked what was trap and then we got caught up posting tunes and then you started this "dialogue". I was just trying to keep the thread going without people arguing like children.

So how to move on from here? Post some tunes and learn your lesson. You will learn more through the music than through the previous method tried.

if you listen to the posts throughout this thread the musical styles are all over the place. That was my point. And that's fine too. If someone asks "what is house?", the posts would be all over the place. You could say I like tribal tech house. That is more specific. So I say I like southern crunk trap.

I don't see your point to be honest. You asked what trap was. We gave you examples. Your point? Or are you talking about when you tried to open the conversation by sounding like you know everything about trap when you clearly don't? All I know is the conversation went south because of your attitude and everyone's lack of knowledge of this genre. Which is why I would rather keep the thread going in a positive direction by posting tracks instead of pretending that we know enough about trap to comment on its roots and where it's going. Also the whole race thing you started throwing into your comments soured any chance of me starting a conversation with you.

Just to get things straight. My original post was aimed to address the characteristics of TRAP. "What is it exactly" Not . Hey Guys let's post our favorite tracks. As we quickly found out, the genre is complicated. Please go back and read this article that Xonetacular posted (first response) which enforces my point: http://motherboard.vice.com/2012/6/1...-l%C5%8Dtic--2

It's not that new buddy. I've been listening to "trap" since 2006. The reason for "annoying" synths is since EDM artists have started making it recently and its not intended to be rapped over. Fitting heavy synth melodies under vocals won't sit right in the mix most often. If you want "straight ghetto" you'll have trouble finding it since the guys who make it have a tight grip on those beats and don't readily give them away.

thanks Mr. Trap. Apparently no one knows why sometimes trap contains annoying synths and sounds tech and other times it's straight ghetto and sounds street. Apparently you could answer why the producers themselves are confused and call it trap, hype, swag, and glitch.

oh yeah and I forgot about grime too.

It might be a grime track, but it is hitting me hard in this vein, http://soundcloud.com/ruff-step-fell...cal-djs-sinner the part of the rhyme where he says, "People say you only use 10% of your brain, well I only use 6, otherwise I would be levitating shit" The production under the accapella is great.

Also hitting hard on my trap radar is this mini mix http://soundcloud.com/maskuerade/runthetrap

Some of it sounds like moombahton with a crunk beat instead of a reggaeton beat. I don't like moombahton, so therefore I don't like that trippy tech trap. But some of the tracks are just crunked with the right amount of synth to make it bang. That's the confusion. I blame Diplo. I believe he has an identity crisis.

Im diggin this stuff...its dirty, makes your head bob, first song that popped into my head that it reminds me of is David Banner "Like a pimp" and believe it or not Kesha "Sleazy". Lke anything there will be good and bad and some songs do sound a little toooo "manufctured" for me but from a lot of what I have heard I can see this genre making some noise.....
