DJTT Internet Radio: Should it be a thing?
DJTT Internet Radio: Should it be a thing? Posted on: 05.07.2012 by Xavier Ponce In connection with a soon-to-be-published article, I'm curious as to if there's interest in our community to have an semi-official internet radio station. We'd need an incredible volunteer to run it and vet/train/schedule DJs, and we'd of course need a bunch of DJs who would be willing to contribute! What can we do to make this the way coolest internet radio station ever? DJs with experience on internet radio, we're looking to you for advice as well : ) | |

Leeanna Ayla 06.07.2012 | The problem with internet radio is people are so used to having mixes to listen to whenever they want it's hard to force them to sit at their computer at a certain time every week. Then it's hard to keep them focused on the show with so many other distractions vying for their attention. |
Cedric Deimling 06.07.2012 | Great idea. I would love to contribute. Either by playing or on the behind the scenes of things or both. |
Jamee Karno 07.07.2012 | I've been running a show for the past year for my live DJ sets using Wirecast and Ustream together. It is fairly easy but the only problem I have been having is getting an audience for it. I have a nice cam setup and actually use LED lighting effects to make it more enjoyable. I have been doing "advertising" only really on Facebook. But it seems as if none of my friends on there really like the genre I use. However I do have about 4-5 regulars every Monday which is nice. Now as far as running it goes...it is very easy to coordinate everything and get things broadcasting using Ustream, the other sites and programs I have tried before but I am not 100% familiar with how they work exactly. I have tried to make make my own internet radio using my personal website, but I just can't figure it out completely. But hey. Case of the Mondays every Monday evening at 10pmET! Lol...shameless plug. |
Yong Aptekar 07.07.2012 | Been waiting for this for a while. Great idea, can't wait to see what comes about! |
Janyce Henningson 06.07.2012 | Yep great idea. I'll help any way you need jojo's got it bang on - that's the way all internet radio works (live show then on rotation when no live dj) Don't do a podcast - go for the full thing, there are enough people on here with experience and to fill a schedule. Oh and put me down for Sunday's 7-10 GMT |
Julee Fone 06.07.2012 | First step would be to decide if the station is going to be run as a profit, not for profit (charge only enough to pay the bills) or a free to access enterprise. Advertising could be used to generate income if you wanted it to but I would stay away from ads which would interrupt live shows or pre recorded sets etc. They are very annoying. Next would be to set up a solid list of quality control guidelines. You could create your own app for example which could make sure that the sound is right etc but as for a DJs technical ability, that's a bit more tricky as the guidelines you put in place may offend some. I wouldn't recommend limiting the number of genres available as this could limit the number of listeners streaming. It may be possible to have several live shows running at the same time but I don't know how this could be set up. Another key point is to decide if you will or wont limit the number of Djs performing. Having concurrent live shows could be easier to administer if anyone could sign up and play whenever they wanted. A stricter one after the other formate could be long to administer particularly if there is no limit on DJs. All this may prove to be costly in terms of broadcasting bandwidth and you would need to decide how to pay the bills in a way which will attract as many DJs and listeners as possible. |
Lawana Spratlen 06.07.2012 | IMO a podcast, similar to the RA one would be a much better option. Less hassle, and could be good |
Nilsa Erben 06.07.2012 | Why did it take so long for anyone to come up with this marvelous idea? I'd love to contribute. |
Reva Poat 06.07.2012 | Nice idea I would definetly recommend and listen it as well. But in my personal view the spots to given to DJ's should not be long and everybody would join in the community . |
Wilma Quinty 06.07.2012 | I believe this is a great idea. I would be willing to spin (if I was worthy). I have been playing around with streaming: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/djmaverick |
Daniell Kosharek 06.07.2012 | I'm into it! Love deep/tech, moombahton and brazilian funk (go figure)! So I'm into it! |
Roseanne Torstenson 06.07.2012 | I'm proficient with web site design I could help manage/create such an awesome idea. Let me know if I can be of any assistance |
Darcey Mens 06.07.2012 | Good idea, count me in for mixing and if any help is needed with running it.. go DJTT! |
Random X 06.07.2012 | I could switch the other week with you in case of the bi-weekly thing and running? |
Leeanna Ayla 06.07.2012 | I'm in for two hours bi-weekly and can help run it. In my opinion there needs top be at least one live show a day during prime time to make it interesting. The station I've been on for the last few years has a dedicated group of "resident" DJ's that have regularly scheduled shows that air the same time every week. For example I'm on live every other monday 8-10 GMT. When each DJ is done with their show they upload the mix to the play it again server and those mixes are what plays when there's not a live DJ. In the case of DJTT with a large community I can see a feature mix or two being played once or twice a day from someone who's not a "resident" DJ on the station. These should be submitted mixes that include full track listings and should most probably be vetted by the residents in charge of that genre. We use www.streamsolutions.co.uk, not sure what's available in the US though. |
Jerica Salava 06.07.2012 | I don't mean to be the negative one, but (as far as EDM goes) I only like Disco/Funky/Tech/Prog House. I believe I would tune out with so many genres on one station. When I am in the mood to workout, cook, cleaning, showering, and pre-going out at evening , I want straight groovin' house. When I am feeling crazy I jam trap. When I am entertaining a lady friend and/or Sunday mornings, I want downtempo. That's all. Just my opinion. |
Stefania Herb 06.07.2012 | id love a monthly spot golden era hiphop/funk/soul/breaks/tablism illness sign my azz up soon as |
Alease Fitch 06.07.2012 | I love the idea! And I'm willing to help out with the tech stuff if you need me |
Random X 06.07.2012 | Yeah, would love to have a weekly show on Friday or Saturday. Also with proper rosters/timetables, you'd be totally save with all the different genres. Hey Spacecamp, let me know if you need an A&R / scout for the station. |
Lynetta Stanislav 06.07.2012 | this sounds like a amazing idea really hope it takes off , would be great to here everyone's different styles in the one place. |
Naoma Freeburger 06.07.2012 | I believe this is a great idea! The DJTT online radio station could become one of the biggist in the world, with all the fans, dj's & producers DJTT allready has. With once a day/week a big famous dj or producer live, with a set or tutorial or just aan interview. And the other days just the live mixes or tutorials of members, not only sound but also video.

Latoria Kavulich 06.07.2012 | The stations i'm involved with (chromanova, schizoid, tenzi, sato) all have scheduled shows but also broadcast 24/7 with a bank of prerecorded mixes. If DJTT starts something up maybe using the official soundcloud group as a source for mixes and then we can add shows as time goes on or something. exciting times! |

Alla Bluemke 06.07.2012 | It would have to limited to a genre a week or a day or every other day or something 24 hrs broadcasting is crazy.... Too much to scan over for a person to approve mixes. |
Werner Bile 05.07.2012 | This radio station is going to end up broadcasting 24 hours a day at this rate. And yes, I would spin Drum & Bass/Dubstep. |
Irwin Ney 05.07.2012 | Brazilian Psytrance would have a space in it? |
Latrice Atcherson 05.07.2012 | Once I'm done mapping my Twitch.. Electro/Dubstep/Progressive/Trance |
Chasidy Heckenbach 05.07.2012 | sounds like a cool idea... i wouldn't mind helping out with any server/techie stuff. |
Lessie Becoats 05.07.2012 | I'd spin |
Bunny Sockel 05.07.2012 | minmal house dj right here ready to play |
Alla Bluemke 05.07.2012 | I'm definitely interested. I wouldn't mind trying to run the thing either. It depends on what would be needed out of it. But hell I got tons of time since I work at home lol. I guess what I would imagine it would be a podcast style thing, that people can tune into live or download the podcast. Additionally if we wanted to drop samples of advertisement for DJTT in we would need to do some work in ableton, or ask the mixing DJ to do that. Even a host would be huge overall. To announce the artist, where they are from where to find them and then talk about whats new with DJTT. i.e "You are tuning in with Guiltysounds hosting the DJTT weekly podcast. Todays show consist of Chicago house from DJ Donkey punch from Washington state for an hour long, we've got some tracks from xyz. You can find DJ donkey punch on his website www.sngns.com. While you are in the mix stop by DJTT website and check out our limited edition midifighter pros that were just released. These midi fighters sport a fresh looking white color and work with our very own mad zachs ableton templates. Then every so often during track you do a "You are tuned in to Round table sessions with DJTT". The only question I would have is do you need a license, like an entertainment license to cover what tracks you play? That way it would protect you against people saying you are playing tracks that are illegitimate? |
Ulysses Vittetoe 05.07.2012 | i'd be interested |
Kasi Marget 05.07.2012 | That's one hell of a nice idea. I guess some of us struggle to find a nice radio to play on (at least I do), and this DJTT webradio would be nice because thanks to the community "fame", i'd be a bit more "alive" than our personal mixlr/mixcloud And I guess if this things spreads as I expect it to, i'd bring new members to the community. It's a win-win, go ahead. I'd love to have a 1h schedule per month or so, for some brostep/dubstep/drumstep/moombahcore. |
Cole Maroto 05.07.2012 | i would listen and believe it would be cool to contribute...maybe not once a week for me, but once a month would be awesome. |
Werner Bile 05.07.2012 | That is a great idea. |
