DJTT Internet Radio: Should it be a thing?
Posted on: 05.07.2012 by Xavier Ponce
In connection with a soon-to-be-published article, I'm curious as to if there's interest in our community to have an semi-official internet radio station. We'd need an incredible volunteer to run it and vet/train/schedule DJs, and we'd of course need a bunch of DJs who would be willing to contribute!

What can we do to make this the way coolest internet radio station ever?
DJs with experience on internet radio, we're looking to you for advice as well : )

I am willing to turn my station into the DJTechtools radio or partern up. Radionomy covers all my royalties but since not all my DJs send the metadata because they use butt radionomy is cutting their mixes.. I have a domain already and I am ready to go. i have been working on this station since january and I am ready to make it big. I have eight DJ's right now and they are all from different parts of the world.

What would you be charging for it? Or would it be laden with advertisement? These are my determining factors

I mean unless of course you are just going to spring for some insane bandwidth usage out of your own pocket :P

Just realised this thread was actually started a while ago, is the idea being resurrected?

I'd be down! This would be sick. Already have had offers to DJ on multiple shows, but this would be fun!

I believe it's a great idea, and I'm totally down to play my own show on a regular basis should there be a want or need.

Typical genres: Deep house, techno, nu disco
Occasional foray into: RnB edits, jazzy stuff, classical hip-hop

Would also gladly promote the show on my blog: PassionateDJ.com

I believe the format should similar to how we do things at dice radio. Basically have a playlist running 24/7 and add live shows as things progress. I don't have anything to do with the actual site itself but when i do my show i use BUTT http://butt.sourceforge.net/
I have the settings and just run an RCA from my mixer into the Audio 6 and we are good to go.

Of course I'd like to contribute! I play mostly Mainroom stuff, I know it's not the favorite genre here, but I'd be ready to make a guest mix at every time!

I believe it is abit silly to have only a single person, running it, me and some other guys from here ran a small one of mixlr for abit, and it worked out great. But we didn't have enough djs playing on there. That account is still set up if people want to use it. We also had a schedual going, which I still have the template for and we could use if anybody likes?
We basically shared the username and password, but we could change the password every week or something so that it doesn't get risky if you know what I mean.

I'd do a genre a day, but pick a number of genres that isn't a multiple of seven so that it rotates. Like say you pick,

Deep, Electro, Dubstep, Funky, Ambient, DNB, that's Monday to Saturday, and then repeat Sunday to Friday.

The reason is some people who could DJ say, Dubstep tuesdays, might always work that evening so they will never be available, and ridiculous to expect someone to book a evening off work just to play a set on internet radio. However if it rotates then they can participate. Also genre days help the shuffled playlist that will play between DJ sets. A system where people could vote up or down a track could help the station.. King? Owner? Daddy? To choose which songs to axe and which new ones to add.

P.S. From a working DJ point of view, a "commercial/top 40" genre day would be a really useful station.

Maybe not even so much a show but a radio a guide to whose spinning when. Maybe a handy template and then we can start putting together a rudimentary guide:

Forum Name:
URL of show:
Time of show (greenwich time):
Date of Show:
Genre:
Gear:
DJ links:

me too...

i do a weekly mixlr show, but it would be a lot better to have a DJTT colective station for like minded people, who appreciate the art rather then just listen for the tunes!

funny. Thought i answered this thread?
Maybe i emailed a MOD about it some time ago... not sure
I have plenty of experiance with this "topic" and idea
so yea..... if you guys (DJTT owners and idea makers. The dreamers of dreams) want to continue this,
or at least get some help getting this sorted out, feel free to hit me up.

I can help you with software
programming
mechanical licensing to broadcast legally
low monthly costs with a company i have trusted since 2005
even how to automate a lot of features youll probably want to get into.
Which includes allowing djs to connect automatically but ONLY when its time for their timeslot so people cant just connect when they want to.

Yeah... I contacted the DTT guys directly, offering extensive services but they never replied. Perhaps they have decided traditional single stream radio format is not relevant. My guess is that you'll see some partnership with a more modern take on radio like Mxlr or Mixify. That said my offer for DTT community members still stands on our station. Send me your mixes and we'll take a look. http://www.budgiecollective.com/contact/
