Old electronic music and New electronic music.

How come when talking to the younger generation about music when i bring up the genre of electro house or the older type of rave music they instantly they tell me electro house sucks?

When electro house has been around way longer then dubstep.

I know people have there preference but thats just pisses me off.
I dont bash dubstep but when ever you bring up old school techno or minimal techno they say its "GAY" or that shit sucks brah go jam out to skrillex.

BTW both the above tracks would mix well with dubstep but I don't believe it would be considered that - again, who knows with these genre discussions, often people figure out what they were doing years later. But long before dubstep and grime there was Miami Bass, so maybe we want to retroactively call that the beginning of dubstep

Of course it depends what you want to call "techno" (Wikipedia claims the term was first used in 1988), but the prevailing wisdom is that what is called "techno" originated with the "Belleville Three" (Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May), but no question they were listening to Kraftwerk at the time, so arguably minimal techno starts with German electronic music from the 1970s. Then again some would argue an Indian wedding bandleader invented acid house in 1982 so who knows.

On a related note, dubstep wasn't around until early 2000's. The earliest stuff that I've found and could label as such has been 2002/2003 (Plasticman, Digital Mystikz, Kode9, Loefah, Benga, Skream... etc.), arguably one of the first dubstep records is Benga & Skream's The Judgement (http://www.discogs.com/Skream-Benga-.../master/112100).
I'd really like to hear this dubstep from 1998... Rotebass & Oliosky's hypothetical situation seems the most likely. So, which of you two started the steppin' eh?
I remember some 2step tracks that used drum and bass style basslines that you could probably drop in to a dubstep set. I wasn't that into that scene in the late 90's so someone else may pull better examples but sorta like this -

Really? Poor bastard.

I've got some Anthony Rother records that would've been released sometime after 2002 that are electro

Dave Clarke's World Service CDs both have an awesome REAL electro disc. I still listen to them. The last one of those was 2004 or 2005?

I'm sure there is more recent examples I've just stopped following it, a lot of earlyish Hacker stuff kinda bridged Electro-Electroclash/House.

Electro House came after/out of Electroclash... Dubstep came out of UK Garage/2-Step, that was my vague recollections. possibly wrong, but it's always been how I remember the sound evolving at record shops, clubs, festivals etc.

I remember listening to a King Unique essential mix in 2004 that blew me away, it was when that farting bassline sound that electro-house loves so much still sounded fresh., stuff like Rex The Dog, Alter-Ego etc.

But meh. Genres give me the shits, but we'd be screwed without them, imagine trying to go through Beatport without them.

I am sure you weren’t that “savvy” when you were younger.

My point is, people should stop to try naming everything. For me there are just two types of music, good music and bad music, because even among the genres I like the most I found some great tune and others that are just shit.
No ones bashing the guy. The guy was making statements that were patently incorrect and there is just a bunch of folks on here who have alot more knowledge and subsequently corrected him, in a non insulting way. Think of it as an education

If you are surprised by the dating of house being the early 80s then maybe your overall timing is wayyy off.

I mean this came out early early 80s, maybe the first house track ever.

even this was mid 80s

Mate. Before arguing about the origins of various genre's it might be an idea to actually get a bit more knowledge of the scenes first. Find at watch this documentary http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0877337/ as well as the one above.

90s rave and electro house (not real Aux88, Model 500 electro) have very little in common.

Really? I believe the first time I heard the term was like 2003-4. There's probably older stuff with that sort of sound, particularly bass heavy dub, but it's still a pretty far cry from what I would consider dubstep today. Do we have examples of 1998 dubstep?

maybe cause kids today that a electro house song is cool and its just a rip off the OG techno, hardcore, drum & bass track and gives no credit to the OG source. But that goes for any music genre. I had one kid tell me if I had Joy Division cover to The Killers - Shawdowplay. He swore the Killers made the track. I nearly flipped out, but I told him it was the other way around and just said yeah right. Many different scenerios, but I believe its a lack of musical knownledge, thats all.
