The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

I guess you can call it that. I was listening to itunes radio last evening and to my surprise, I heard mc skibadee holding a dubstep party. WTF is going on?

What type of dnb do you listen to? Check out mutt, he makes some nice liquid dnb.

thingz like:
logistics - dreamer of dreams | Apocalyptica - harvester of sorrow
Future signal – grime house | Crannberries - Salvation
Aphrodite – The Oddysey | Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank [remix]
crypton and rollar - progressive funk | alannah myles - black velvet
Serbian pop-rock:
Iclicle - Strange fruit | Van Gogh - 01 - Puls
Dom and roland – Get Up | Van Gogh - 02 - Bez oblika
Serbian hiphop:
Hive - Ultrasonic Sound | Ajs 2006-Bekam

I have more songs on the list but haven't matched specific dnb songs to go with.
With this I'm trying to freshen up the scene here and to make a certain statement.

they have media support (vidz and pics) and history sticks.

+1 for the evolution of DnB...if mixing it with "black velvet" is evolution.

o noez! thread reading fail!

anyway, i am so in mad love with hexstatic's work. Saw him live in the summer and got stunned by his audio-visual show. For example, when he played The Qemist - Iron Shirt the vid was made out of the movie trailer for the Iron Man. And there was tons and tons more, i just can't remember all the tracks, but it was sic dope!

Good to know you made the crowd get their screwface on! Thats what this shit is all about.

May is going to be AWOL bro! Cant fucking wait. 3 Internationals so far. + Hopefully upbeats or SoM to headline as well as about 10 other DJs or more playing!

Aiming for 400-500 people which shouldnt be hard with upbeats headlining, but only need about 150-200 to cover costs which is siic!

Sic set man. Thats huuuuuge.

Good to hear the the Hamilton massive is getting some darkness in its diet these days.

This weekend was epic. Rolled to Blackplanet on Friday. Went nuts. They dropped printer jam and the crowed went fucking AWOL. Met up with one of the DJs Snax, hes well sic, gettin him to play at the May gig.

Been mixing all weekend, was fucking siic. Got heaps of epic new tunes which you definately need to play at your next gig, some of it blows my mind. Were starting up a record & promo label (rbg - real big groove) to put out some of the stuff in limited editions (we know some pressing/mastering places) so once your production gets off the ground you can hit us up ;D

This year is going to be fucking NUTS for dark/metal dnb n dubstep in Wellington, cant fucking wait for May. Siic!

I know what you mean by visionary. Its very... as you say, different. Slightly is awesome man, he comes from a metal background so he uses heaps of that, his tracks are deep as and mix so much shit into them. The more you listen the more your like 'oh fuck yes'. I'm working on a few tracks with him atm.

Theres another track of his that you should listen to on his myspace called 'panic' probably more your style, while still very different ;]
