The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

The only problem I really have with the HC remix of hometown glory is the bassline is rather bass-less. What I mean is... it doesn't really slam

Starting up at work was weird, I went to DJTT, and saw that the 'Drum 'n' Bass is dead?' topic was not in my 'New Posts' list?

listening over and over to he HC remix. guys you have put a mole in my head. now i am having doubts about the bassline... but still, you know what sold it to me? the voice, even when modulated it is just the element i love in that tune, so i'm calling up Lincoln and telling him that he should reedit it. anybody got his cellphone number??

Well... I agree that a remix can change a song as long as the true emotion/intention remains, but make sure you don't warp it that bad, that samples get touched by artifacts.

But that's my two cents.

LOlz.

Btw, did you see all the posts on the youtube vids...?

Fans of both sides giving each other not much respect and love.
I like the way of this community better.

Putting autotune over the main vocals of Adele should have never been done.
The percussion, even the bassline has been done too many times.

Clueless beats has remained intimate, just as the original was. For me that is the thing for this song, especially compared to the High Contrast mix.

I do like High Contrast his other stuff, but this one just isn't up to his standards.

To get back to your question, I like the first better, due to staying to the true emotion.

fair enough i Guess, The vocal isnt autotuned though, the warbling sound is an artefact of the the audio being sped up, Adele has a fair amount of vibrato when she sings, and speeding it up gives it that wobbley vocal.

I just believe a remix should give you a new perspective on a track, or make it RAVEY AS F*CK

Yeah dude honestly it's fucking trash. "That's not real metal..." or "dude you don't know shit til you've heard this..." is bullshit. Honestly it kind of scared me away from the whole "scene," because everyone was wayyyyyy too serious.

It's one thing to take music seriously, but once you define yourself by it I believe theres problems. Idk. Whatever.

People who believe they have one up on you just because they know how to use google more skillfully don't have shit imo....

edit: when did music become a vehicle for providing how badass you were? isn't it ultimately supposed to be entertainment? lol @ people who take music to new levels of serious dumb-ass-ness

i hear ya, it definetly happens and i've probably done it sometime in my early dnb days... I listen to a shitload of drum and bass, more so than any other genre of music and i find alot of tunes good, crazy, shit, whatever... but every now and then you get tunes that you just connect with to the point where that shit becomes part of you and you just can't help rave about it
