Mold on controller
Posted on: 22.08.2012 by Pansy Shiveley
So, yesterday I took my X1 out of my gig bag and found it covered with mold. I'm guessing I packed it while still wet (the booth wasn't that clean, had some drink spills on it), and that was more than a week ago.

I believe it's still fixable, as the mold doesn't seem to have gotten beneath the buttons. Any of you got experience with this, and some tips to clean this without damaging the electronics? For the X1 bag (which is covered in it too), I though of washing it in a mixture of water, vinegar and soap. Vinegar is often recommended for washing funghi out of clothes, but I'm hesitant to use it on the X1 too..

mmm, that's tasty, I'd lick it clean!

I'd get out the Isoprop with some cotton buds, then maybe run over the surfaces with antibac wipe, dread to believe what nasties are having a party on your X1!

That is horrid!! Were you DJ'ing down a mineshaft or something? I believe the bar you were in needs a pap smear. It's got some serious fungal issues.

Isopropyl to start with! If that doesn't work.. Burn the controller and any of your clothing you wore that evening . CLEANSE WITH FIRE.

I had this happen a long time ago............. but to a synth.

I would take it appart.

1. Clean the case (without electronics) with warm water and washing up liquid......... very very carefully not to scratch it... use a really soft j-cloth. leave in soak overevening type of thing.

Fot the board.....

Isopropyl alcohol.

Am I the only one that thought this guy was going to "mold" a bad ass controller out of clay?

Sooo.. The isopropyl seems to have worked, still required a lotta scrubbing but didn't have any issues playing out yesterday and it looks clean. The X1 bag is mold-free too, but it's lost a lot of its strenght, I suppose there's cardboard inside it and it's gotten soft because of the water. Still seems useable though, so I'm happy overall.

Use more beer. Or 99% isopropyl. The 99% stuff doesn't leave a residue behind.

+1 on the ISO. Compressed air won't get rid of the mold.

Soap n water is just a big no no. And vinegar is acidic so it might eat into the X1 case/buttons and corrode the board if it gets inside.
