David Guetta's new mixing technique

At first sight it looks the gear is off, no spinning circles on the cdjs or vu meter action.

And it's not like tons of popular singers have not lip sync'ed many of their performances?

A pre-recorded mix is the DJ's equivelant to lip syncing in my book. It's possibly a DJ sinn amongst DJs, but if you see David's travel itinerary, you'd have to just let it go, if it only happens on very rare occasions.

And possibly they had some really freaky technical troubles to begin with and had to play a pre-recorded mix from an iPhone or iPod just to make the crowd happy? Lol!

Just sayin....

About the ON/OFF debate : Ok about lighting and angle on CDJs, but what about the mixer ? Vu-meters on all channels and master are off, lighting or not we should see some colors.

Hard to believe he had the balls to do that, but well, it looks he did.
This film is pretty old btw, like 5 years old or even more, because the layout of the channel (french TV, i'm french) is pretty old.

This, I'm pretty sure it's the lighting and video.

Which just goes to show that drum & bass has higher quality standards (I'd like to believe)

I will say this about Mistabishi though, based on his album this year and his work as part of 'lol', the man can still make really well produced, original sounding music.

I don't know either way but I'm not convinced it was off in that video yet.

The picture you posted doesn't take into account the lighting on stage which could have washed out everything in that video.

There was a thread on r/djs that showed a pic of someone mixing on CDJ1000s and a DJM800 which looked off but on closer inspection it turned out to be the camera and angle.

It's probably off and looks off but you never know.

I really want to believe those CDJs are off, but couldn't it just be the angle of the camera at the displays and the lighting? I remember there was a pic like this of another DJ and the CDJs turned out to actually be on and it was the angle of the camera, just saying.

I had to see the funny side.

Turned out to be a shit party full of pompous upper-middle class kids who weren't very interested in the music so they guys just stuck my mix on and got drunk.

I know for a fact that Judge Jules has mimed to a DAT (shows how long ago it was). He was doing 2 gigs in one nite and he mimed at his early slot.

2 of my mates did a posh girls party in a marquee at her mansion and they mimed to one of my mix cds... wankers got paid as well hahaha

Well, I'd say it's crap, but since pop music can have some of their biggest names preform all playback and still have big pop acts that actually do play live and do it good get all the respect they deserve, you just have to make it obvious to the audience that the DJ:s not actually mixing anything. Just as it's quite obvious when a concerts all playback. We just need to separate the boys from the men so to speak, I believe Guetta would have huge crowds even if people knew it was pre-recorded...
