Who hates their PC or MAC So I'm looking for people who first hand have issues with their PC or MAC. I can search all I want about DJ laptops but pretty much all of it says "Mac will never crash" or "I hate iTunes" or "I'm not paying 2500 bucks for a laptop." I've heard the story that a MAC is far more stable than a PC and read the horror stories of laptops crashing in the middle of sets. But the stories are always second hand. Where is the guy that had the laptop crash? Did you dig into why? Was it just a drive you installed the day before? Did some popup kick you out of your software? Or did you just unplug your USB hdd and blame your software without telling anyone . Those are the comments I'm looking for. I'm not bias either way and paying 2k for a laptop doesn't bother me so lets hear what you've got running and what has gone wrong. |

My Alienware GUI looks like windows 2000. Yes its not pretty but i could care less about pretty and want functional with best performance possible.

true - mac's do have an unfair advantage there.
So you are not really comparing the same thing...now if u compare an Alienware to a Mac you are getting more of a truer this vs that.
Still to this day...the cost of an alienware vs a mac is about even...yet the Alienware will usually have more power in it compared to a MBP.
a friend of mine once had an alienware machine and it was very nice... the performance of the believepad or hp laptop i had at the time didn't compare at all.
an alienware should have more power than a mac for the same price really - as you do pay quite a premium for it being a mac. even with the inflated price i'd probably stick with mac again in the future; tho an alienware would be awesome to tun archlinux on and i'll be looking to replace this again/cheapo acer sometime. |

To start, you can't DJ on a macbook right out of the box. It doesn't come with software for that. If you're talking about buying an MBP and a hardware controller, you can do that with a windows box, too. Mac users only get mac applications but windows users only get windows applications so this is a moot point? Likewise mac users can download 3rd party applications. There ARE viruses for macs, there's just less proliferation at the moment because they have a vastly smaller market share. Windows lets you know about software updates, too, and is in fact so persistent and annoying about it as to be legendary. You don't get the benefit of being notified about software updates from anything other than OS-level software and stuff bought from the app store, i.e. all pro audio software save for logic. Latency is largely dependent upon your specific hardware configuration, and even though CoreAudio seems more efficient than ASIO to me I don't believe you can reasonably call 'low audio latency' an inherent feature of OSX. We try to keep the community

This pc mac bullshit is so boring.PCs do dumb shit so do macs. So what
Buy which ever one makes you happy and let everyone else do the same.
Perhaps we should ban PC and Mac threads so everyone can just concentrate on the DJing.
and remember why we are here. end. rant |

Why delete your accounts? Why not just stay off the site. As for your comment regarding 'pretend DJ's'. Please explain yourself more.. If it is targeted at me at all, I have been DJ'n 15 years and out in clubs for 8 holding solid residencies from a VINYL background so nothing pretend about me!
Please Jack, you tell us how good a DJ you are?
Mods sorry for the off topic but this guy has some problems, showing it especially after creating a second account and asking for them to be deleted.. |

I always love it when users scream that moderation is a joke. This just shows me, you can't figure out anything useful to say.
If you believe this place is such a joke, why even bother to come here in the first place?

Both my comps run windows and the one at my buddy's studio is an iMac. IMHO both systems run smoothly. I've never had a crash in the 4 years of service that my laptop has given me although I did restore it to factory settings this last spring (which gave it a very noticeable boost in performance). I will say that I PERSONALLY prefer windows but that's mostly because I know it better. It will always come down to what you prefer. Ask yourself:
*What software/applications do I want to use?
*Will they run on both systems?
*How much do i want to spend?
*Am I willing to spend some time learning a new OS?
With that all being said here are some of my opinions (that you can totally ignore)
*When comparing laptops with the same specs Mac's usually are slightly more expensive
*Windows can be just as reliable as long as you take care of your laptop and don't download shadey stuff
*Mac's have a considerably better build quality than most PC's
*There are more traps out there for PC users than mac
*The general public consider apple products to be gifts from the gods and you can score you extra points if you are caught with one in public (if you're into that)
*Windows laptops of the same price range almost always have better graphics than macs (funny how people consider macs the industry standard for photo and video editing huh)
So anyways chew on that for a while but honestly any which way you look at it YOU are the one that should decide this. Take peace in the fact that both systems can give you the same performance no matter what anyone says as long as you know what you're doing. Good luck and hope this helped
Edit: Oh shit I wrote all this before reading your post padi delete if necessary

Also, I noticed you took the swearing out of my post (despite the fact it wasn't aimed at anyone and wasn't insulting) yet you're quite happy for someone to call me a c**t. I believe that says it all about your 'moderation' and even-handedness. This place is a joke.

Better yet, you are continuing to harass this community with trying to drag people into your own conflict. It's time for you to cool down and see if you'd like to come back once you've done exactly this.
For now, here's your 10 days time out. |
Venetta Cawyer 12.10.2012 | Doesn't matter if you run OSX, Windows or any form of Unix. Get those extra bucks ready for a SSD and you won't be dissapointed.
My 2009 13" MBP runs godly with the 256GB Samsung 830 SSD and my 5 year old budget PC still plays along nicely with a Vertex 2. |
Ling Mccamman 12.10.2012 | I actually just switched from a 15' Sony Vaio (05') PC to a 2012 15' Macbook Pro! So far I have to say my PC did in fact crash a few times! Nothing is worse to have your PC take a shit during a LIVE performance. So I sucked it up and continued using it until my screen started to act up! I saved up all my earnings and went and bought a Macbook Pro. and man oh man has it been amazing! But every new "toy" is amazing at first but I've had this Mac for little over a month and I fucking love it! I highly recommend either a high end PC or a Macbook Pro!

Where have I called people 'dumb f__s' because they chose an Apple? I've had nothing but praise for Macs right the way through the thread. Sigma said it best in his last paragraph -
Frankly when someone says that their laptop 'shat it' (or words to that effect) when trying to run really standard programs like photoshop I do call bullshit. And what do you know? It was bullshit and exaggeration. Check back on the thread and you'll find it's true. He implied that they wouldn't run and then later acknowledged that (a) they did run but (b) it was an old machine and he wanted them to run better. The best you can say about that is that it was a misleading thing to post.
If everyone just kept to the point of the thread and bigged up what they like about their machine I wouldn't have to call bullshit on the obvious lies and exaggerations contained within.
I did not mean that is what YOU were saying, it means that is what I got ...the gist ...of your overall posts on this thread. The Tone. I am not saying you are wrong or that you dissed anyone. I am trying to show you that you are arguing a point that is moot.
No worries, you have your opinion and you are free to express it.
No hard feelings dude...just thought I would try and get us to not go down the PC vs Mac....ala I know more about his than you....discussion.
Enjoy the weekend fellas!
