So a sick as tune pops into your head one day... Posted on: 11.05.2011 by Glennie Hoppenstedt You're in your car on the other side of town listening to the radio and all of a sudden you get the BEST EVER idea for a song, you can hear it playing in your head and you can imagine a crowd or a club going absolutely insane to your track, but the problem is it's only in your head right now.You can perfectly hear all of the kicks, synths, hats, vocals and bass working perfectly smoothly in your head, but you want to get it down and make it into a track, and not just any track, but the track IN YOUR HEAD. So how do you go about remembering this tune between the time you imagine it and the time you're sitting in your studio with your DAW open and putting it together? Is it possible? Do you have any techniques? | |

Charline Dunch 15.05.2011 | recording your voice as a synth for the main instruments. it's mainly lead basslines and stuff that comes to my mind out of nothing and i feel like it's kinda obvious which drums fits. i also have a million great fills and buildups in my mind, but since i dont have the skills yet to produce em i just let em go :/ i had the amazinh experience of hearing tracks or songs in my dreams that were awesome, that don't exist nowhere but in my head. i somewhen read that creativity is really just reading out what your lower mind componist puts out. |
Phung Furfari 13.05.2011 | Yes a mobile device, phone or flash recorder, take one around and then "emulate" the sounds as best as possible. |
Gertrude Razzano 13.05.2011 | Usually nothing. I hear great tunes in my head all the time, and it's not too hard to believe up something catchy. What you're describing is inspiration, and it lasts only until the moment you load up your daw and realize how much work it'll take to recreate what you want to hear. I find it easier to start with no idea in particular, just making patches and experimenting with weird processing chains until I inadvertently get an idea of what to play with one. |
Mindi Spitzig 12.05.2011 | voice recorder and I keep a small notebook and pen with me everywhere i go for ideas in general |
Stanley Topoleski 11.05.2011 | me either i use ms word on my windows mobile side a text editor on my linux side or whatever comes with android |
Verona Fashbaugh 11.05.2011 | I don't have a fancy recording thing on my cheap phone, so I just use the basic voice recorder on it to hum out a melody. Or, sometimes just speak into it to try remind myself later what I was believeing of. |
Stanley Topoleski 11.05.2011 | i write down all ideas, chords etc on my phone... i use letters with a number to tell me what note it is for example... ---- 8 bar lead 2 bar chords (1/16th) Am F G Am lead idea... C 24, E 8 (2 bars) A 24 C 8 (2bars) have lead go from saw sound to plucky sound and filter up... then 1 bar silence and full song play... have song start with hard kick ------- etc... the large numbers represent how long a note is played on a 1/16th scale |
Olene Minyard 11.05.2011 | I get this often. I tend to use the voice recorder on my HTC Desire HD and hum, whistle, whatever the melody, parts etc onto it. I also use uLoops on my phone to write beat loops etc that I believe of whilst out and about. By no means a sub for Ableton or Reason, but does the job to trigger my memory on what I was believeing. |
