hd 25 and hdj side by side

I now have sennheiser HD 25 11's and my HDJ 2000. Last evening I did a side by side comparrison.. I dont know if its just that I have flogged my 2000's over the last three years but they didnt sound as clear as my sennheisers.

When I first opened the Sennis I was a taken back as I thought they looked a little cheap, I was expecting something I guess a little more sturdy in manufacture. Then I realised they didnt have a mono stereo function the same like the pio's. The initial dissapointment diminished once I had my first listen to them.

The hdj's are definantly built sturdier and generaly look as though they are constructed better, however due to the material the sennis are made from and the non complex design they are really really light.

I havnt yet had the opportunity to test them on a big system for features such as noise cancelation, but next time a play out I will use both and see.

I had to replace the headband and chose to get the velour ear pads at the same time to save on shipping. I actually bought 2 pairs of the velour ear pads assuming they'd wear out…5 years and the second set is still in the original bag. I'm amazed I haven't lost them yet.

In all honesty, the foam padding thing on the inside of the headband finally fell off about 2 months ago. They're significantly less comfortable now, and it's just laziness that keeps me from replacing the headband again…but they're still very wearable.

$200 for headphones that have lasted 6 years and are still going strong……they might be the most economical piece of gear I own save for my 1200s. And the best part…mine were a gift from my sister.
It's quite amazing how long they actually last..

I always big up Sennheiser and even though i'm waiting my pair coming back from Sennheiser from repair i still big them up.

A mate of mines has had his for nearly 14 years and another for 12 and still on the original headband and cups. Just replaced the foam pads and audio cable due to one of them getting quite loose.

There's nothing wrong with their build quality.

BTW, that was >5 years ago. Still using the same pair. Still sound better than my HDJ-1000s did immediately after burn-in.
If that's not an advert for Sennheisers quality control i dunno what is..

I believe the thing with the HD25s is they "look" like they are cheaply made, but in actuality they will outlast those 2000s no problem. I've got the pleasure of having a pair of the special Adidas edition of the 25s swear by these things. I've had the pioneers, sonys, etc... And while they may seem sturdier built, I beg to differ completely. Plus, every component on the 25s is replaceable by you, meaning, if something breaks you can order a replacement and it's really easy to replace. Don't have to send them to a repair shop or anything.

Oh, and of course, they sound great! I've used them to mix several band's albums when i didn't have a good studio space to do it in and everything's always come out great!

I would say the HD25's are pretty sturdy.

I'd probably go for the HD25's, I used them for 2 years and on a price:value ration they're probably a better bet than the HDJ1000s or 2000s. I've been doing a lot of research over the past weeks on best headphones for a post on my site and I'd say if you want the creme de la creme, go for the Pioneers but if you're on a budget and want something equally as good the HD25s are great, and despite their cheap feel they're deceptively built like tanks

I agree, when I first got my HD25's I was suprised at how light and (IMO) cheap they felt considering how much they cost. But after years of use, they are still working fine, so really can't fault them on that. Well, except for the stock cables, which always seem to fail on me. Just can't bring myself to pay $120 for a higher end replacement cable....

My comment about the build quality was a first impression. Its just different to what I expected. The thing I love is how light they are. I believe im going to order the fluro light ble cable sleeve from custom cans. While im at it ill get new pads for my HDJ 2000,the leather "type' material has all worn away, mainly due to getting them wet.... sweat ect. Ill get blue ear pads for these too.

Having used both for a large amount of time, i will say you won't be dissapointed with the 25's in a club enviroment. I love mines and swear by them. I can't even use Pioneer headphones no more because i rely on the Senns sound that much.

I know what you mean about the build quality of the 25's but i do believe they seem better made than the 2000's. But it's all a preference. You have the best of both worlds
