firmware upgrade kit (uk)
Posted on: 03.09.2009 by Ollie Hubschman
Hi

This is my first post in here (pleasse go easy on me) i've just bought a vestax vci-100 from ebay and it turns out to be loaded with the old firmware 1.0 or 1.1 (the sensor plater problem) i live in englend (UK) is there any where i can get a firmware upgrade kit ? or even better somewhere that can do it ? i've tried to order the upgrade kit from djtt site but after the payment page it resets it self and takes me back to djtt shopping cart page, cancelling my order ?

please can anyone help !!!

any one successfully done it on a laptop using vista ? also is there a step by step idiots guide ? ive seen the one on here wich is great but theres a few inconsistencies on there, where it tells you to uplug something then in the next shot its pluged back in ? and is it just a case of reversing everything when putting it back together ? as in turning the unit off then unplug the serial or (power) usb first and then remove the upgrade kit from the mother board ? you get my drift lol sorry for being such a nerves noob at this lol

Tried both an external hub and a direct usb port nothing, it was via the external that it came up with the error message, will take one more look tommorow or maybe try it again when i have the proper cable, otherwise i am going to just ship it off to get fixed and the upgrade done to same me blowing it up

rather it fixed than break anything else.

silly question ........... but are you using a usb external hub ? or is it straight in to the usb slot on your computer ?

No i have taken it apart from times checked the connections so on so forth, but the last time i plugged it in, the mac came out with the usb connection is pulling too much power and has been disconnected, sounds to me like a short of possibly earth issue either way i am clueless, so i believe it's time to send it off the vestax get them to fix and do the upgrade, then possibly buy one of Ean's!

not a happy bunny and i know pc's inside out but this is a complete mystery to me at the moment.

just retried plugging it in and nothing go to be a short somewhere inside where i have moved something im guessing.

Noooooo !!!! Ooooh s**t, how did that happen !!! are you sure you plugged the lead back in (the one that had to be taken out next to where you put the upgrade kit) dam, i hope its just a simple fix !!!

Hiya mate update for you, tried with the serial to usb cable and nothing failed miserably, in the process it looks like I friend my VCI 100 at the same time! checked all the cables inside to see if any loose connections nothing, no power coming from the USB and my Mac can't even see it anymore so it looks like I might be about to ask Ean if he has any of his one still for sale.

Hopefully the serial to usb works lol otherwise I might be popping your way to do the upgrade!

glad it's all sorted, personally i never use the platters as it sounds like i have the same issue they just don't respond quick enough like a 1210 hopefully that gets fixed when i also do mine, will let you know how it goes next week, we should hook up going forward might learn a few things as this digital lark is all new to me hehe..

ooohh god, i done the upgrade (worked 1st time , but how do i disconnect it ? do i press disconnect button on the program ? or turn off the vestax out of boot mode then disconnect the serial lead ? HELP

i really dont want to mess it up now lol

i done it, ........... i pressed the disconnect on the flash program, then turned off the vestex and unplugged the usb, then the serial and kit, plugged the lead back in that i pulled out to fit the kit in place, then after it was all screwed in, i turned it on .......... (fingers crossed) ............... i have now got 1.3 firmware !!!!

Arrived when i got home from work this evening, believe i ordered it a week ago so pretty quick but no cable so no upgraded lol, either way got the new version of traktor installed did a quick 30 min mix with it, some of my older beat grids have gone whacky so more bothered about that atm.

as for cable just ordered a serial to usb and I use xp pro on this windows pc but I run my rig of the new macbook pro, going to upgrade it via the pc for ease and the fact the people in the knew recommend that, if you want mate and you have a cable i am free on the weekend daytime we could hook up and do them together don't mind.

Well the problem i have mainly is sometimes i hit the cue or play key and it does nothing and i have to restart now this only happens with the current TSI the original one which came with the VCI never had any, on top of this i would like to try out Ean's FW and possibly his mappings to see how i fare.
Ollie Hubschman
07.09.2009
Thanks mrmoleymole

ill be putting Eans 1.3 FW on i understand you can switch it to 1.2 at power up if you need to revert back (im learning more each day) lol

thanks again
Doug Bieling

The FW kit is just a way of accessing the units Memory to install whatever FW you want.

If your going to be doing it anyway itss worth looking at putting Eans 1.3 FW on as it sorts out an issue with one of the effects buttons and adds a couple of extra features which complememnt Eans Mappings.

hi ciar

i thought the purpose of the upgrade kit was to put 1.2 or 1.3 firmware on to a 1.1 firmware unit ? or is it just the 1.3 firmware your after beings your already using a unit with 1.2 firmware ? if so what kind of problems do you have with 1.2 ? sorry for all the question its just that ive bought a vci-100 from ebay and knew nothing about the firmware problems
all i want is for that ramp up problem to be gone so i can bring in a a tune straight away with out it slowing down and throwing it out of sink and to be able to scratch and throw in samples just like i do on a pair of technics turn tables or a cd deck !!! can any one confirm that they have upgraded there 1.1 unit to 1.2 or 1.3 and that it solved that problem ? cant wait for it to turn up, im going to be sooooooooo anxious and nerves upgrading, i just know im going to have a evening mare doing it, lol im itching for a propa scratch up !!! every thing else about the vci-100 i love

ps ....... keep intouch and drop us a line when your upgrade kit arrives ciar, ill do the same

Nah I called up westend DJs a while ago, and they don't have a firmware upgrade kit themselves. They send the units off to Vestax and cost

Thanks for your reply Ean

i have just sent them an email after trying it (several times) again lol

Hope they can help

03.09.2009
try the webstore again- its usually very reliable. If its not working shoot an email to orders@djranking s.com

finding someone else that has already done the upgrade is a good way to go as well.
