Ikea desk mods...
Ikea desk mods... Posted on: 03.12.2010 by Annalisa Shogren Hey all, I'm looking at buying a couple of Ikea pieces and sling them together to make a suarve desk for various gear
and future purchases!I was believeing something along the lines of this... It's basically one of these on it's side: With this one on top: However, I'm not sure if it'll be high enough for my needs. As he has his TT's in a flight case which obviously raises them up somewhat. I only have an Omni Control but plan on upgrading to the S4 and some Rokit 5 G2s too in the future. I'm 5"11 so I'm believeing it might be a bit too low for me? Does anyone have any ideas or desks they've done themselves? | |

kieran frearson 05.12.2010 | Oh Snap, Spare me with that Swedish Crap!!!!! Just kidding, used to work there, and I love it! And we have a GREAT idea how to make one HELL of a dj setup in a Square... pictures to come. Place for 4 djs, loads of vinyl, loads of fun, and a BEER / SNACK table in the middle The Helltown Boys like it like that! |

Dione Haimes 05.12.2010 | Thats a great idea ;D bog roll holder for headphones! |
Brunilda Kora 05.12.2010 | I've got the 2x4 ikea stand with the tabletop. I'm 6'2", and found that using TWO tabletops on top of each other brought it the perfect height for me. I offset them about 3" to the front, so that there is a little overhang on the front. I've got THIS headphone hanger hanging under the overhang: IKEA GRUNDTAL Toilet Roll Holder The back of the tables has a 3" recess which is PERFECT for placing the 4-gang extension leads on... Loads of zip-ties are a must! |

I couldnt find anything the right size so i ordered LEGO 375 Brick Box. Gonna make myself out of Lego. Genius right..? Nope, he aint happy. All that time crafting this desk and i go an finish it off with Lego. It will look cool. Lego is cool. |

nayit ruiz jaramillo 04.12.2010 | Yeah my mate wanted to sink my decks and mixer and x1s into the desk. We drew up the plans but i started talking about getting a new mixer, so he said he wouldnt do it cus id be pestering him to change it all the time. Hes right. |
Dione Haimes 04.12.2010 | How would i see about making a table like this? |
nayit ruiz jaramillo 04.12.2010 | My joiner friend made my new studio desk. He also put all the pictures, coat hooks, blinds up in my house. Thank God for mates being Joiners eh..! |
Dione Haimes 04.12.2010 | I was believeing of getting a table and my joiner friend together, cutting two holes in the table with supports for turntables, a nice fancy stand for my mixer and controllers to the side, prob wont happen, just an idea in my head |

Miquel Catan 03.12.2010 | Yah, I personally couldn't go with this build as I didn't want to have this huge desk/console in m living room, especially while my gf was moving in. So I sold my 1200s/Serato/DJM-3000 and went with a Kontrol S4 My Space issues are gone and I can maintain my simple desk for a smaller 20-21" controller. |

Miquel Catan 02.12.2010 | Just wanted to contribute what I had found while looking for the same thing, with a great write up by someone who made a DJ console. Hopefully this can help some of you out. This is done with Ikea furniture as well. http://www.instructables.com/id/Ultimate-Ikea-DJ-Unit/ |

Kristofer Krauel 02.12.2010 | I like it!! Has the potential to look really sweet!!! Especially with that stand. look forward to seeing that. Think you are right to sink the mixer. |
Random X 02.12.2010 | Well, I'm going to try and add an Ikea Lack plate to the top, as that I can let my mixer sink it's position as to the position-height of the MIDIcontrollers. I want to see if I can find laptop stands that I can conveniently fit under the cut up Lack plate. I might have found one that might suffice: |

You could also be really save and get a multiplex plate under the Expedit cabinet and screw the capita- stands to/through the multiplex plate. The Expedit 4x2 has the same height as a 2x2. In centimeters: 149cm x 79 cm x 39cm Capita-stands comes in sizes. Once again in centimeters: 11cm, 16cm or 21 cm I have opted for the 11cm stands. This would give me roughly a height of 90cm. on which to put my gear on. To put it all in perspective: 90cms is half of 180cm. 180cm is 6 feet, so 90 cm would be 3 feet. |
Ginny Fergson 02.12.2010 | Yeah that's sweet, I use a pair of Bose 802s at the moment but I've finally sold them! Will get that |

This is what it used to be: Here the primary idea on paper: Ikea Hacktime, a package with contents (Ikea Expedit 2x2): No rocketscience, just build it and they will come. Attaching the last screws in ye olde Expedit Here we go! This is what seperates the boys from the men! (I'm 6'0" and this is more than enough for me!) Everything's easy with the proper preparation. And you can even add the velt to the Capita stands! And this leads to the subtotal of: The easy fabricated monitor and laptop stand will be replaced shortly with proper stuff... Just wait and see. |
Leeanna Ayla 02.12.2010 | Bed risers would work. not sure if Ikea sells them though. http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&e...w=1635&bih=861 |
Nick Ross 02.12.2010 | I used spacers from ikea to raise my desk up. I have a post in here SOMEWHERE with pics....ugh |
Leeanna Ayla 02.12.2010 | You want whatever your mixing on to be at least at your bellybutton. |
