Modifier help with 2 controllers

I have a VCI 100 SE and an Akai LPD8. I have the pads on my LPD 8 to control hotcues 1-4 on deck A for the top row of pads and hotcues 1-4 on deck B for the bottom row of pads, Making it easy to juggle in my sets.

When I switch to deck C view on my VCI 100 in my LPD 8 I want to be able to control hotcues 1-4 on deck C for the top row, replacing the original hotcues for deck A. I want this same function for switching between decks B and D, making my bottom row of pads to control hotcues for Deck D when the deck D view is active on my vci.

I noticed that it seemed like the modifiers on my vci 100 were not active in my mapping for the LPD 8. For example modifier 4 used to switch between deck A and C would not turn to "1" on the top tab of the mapping page for the LPD8. So if the LPD8 can not read midi from the VCI 100 at all. Is what I am asking possible. Is there a work around to this, that a somewhat midi noob like myself can figure out?

it's pretty basic function and variable type programming, although it can be a challenge to get it just how you want it. join the bomes community and florian will be able to answer any question you might have or search around there for old threads on the topic.

I had a setup where i used a button on a korg nanokontrol to act as my shift button for my eks xp-5, for switching between deck1 and deck2 control.

i could use a button on the xp-5, but they didn't light up so there was no visual indicator of what deck i was controlling.

the nanokontrol doesn't have controllable leds but they can be set to toggle so they go on and off with the button on/off and you can use the leds to determine on/off state.

good luck

I have no idea how to use boomes but I do have that and Loop BE1 installed for the windows fix...I did a C++ course a couple years ago, don't know if its similar to that at all.

bomes pro will do this for you if you are willing to use another software to accomplish it

Its a feature thats been commented on alot.
Infact, its even worse than you believe.

I tried to break my VCI-100 mapping down into logical units, but the modifiers don't even work on the SAME device if your mapping spans several files (and are therefore imported separately).

That is so dumb, you believe the midi gurus over at NI would have thought of a way to do this haha

What mister is saying is that the 2 controllers are completely independant of each other.. totally.
Setting a modifier on one, does nothing to the other. Its a real bitch, but there you go!

So the solution, or work around, is to have a button on the LDP8 that you also press, to toggle the unit so its in sync with the VCI-100.

So whenever you press your deck shift on the VCI-100, you'd have to do the equivalent on the LPD8 to keep it in sync.

Humm.. so basically I need to copy the modifier I need from the VCI mapping to the LPD 8 mapping? But how would this work if the midi notes for the modifier are assigned on the vci controller? Would I have to set up a deck view control in my LPD 8 also so that when its activated on the VCI it would also activate on my LPD8. I duno if that is practical because there is limited pads for each bank....

I believe the modifiers are global. A shift on one device should affect all controls you have set to the same modifier.

Modifers are NOT global. If you need to use global functions you need to set up separate modifiers in each controller (they can have the same name though, for ease of programming). Traktor sends info to all the connected controllers though, so as long as you have say, an “FX on” output mapped in both controllers, turning it on on one controller will give feedback on the second.
