Akai LPD8 mapping
Akai LPD8 mapping Posted on: 29.10.2009 by Winston Mazeika This is more or less finished, well the only thing is that the 4th program bank is empty as I don't know what to do with it, I'm open to suggestions though. I've only got this thing off Ciar2001 yesterday, so apologies if any bugs are found.Bear in mind this is supposed to compliment the VCI-100 and uses some functions of Ean's mapping. Here's the outline: Bank 1 Main function: Cue Jumping The pads act as Hot Cue buttons 1-4. Top row is Deck A bottom is Deck B. The rotary knobs control FX banks 3 and 4 in chained mode. If you flip the Deck C/D mode on the VCI the pads now control Hot Cues on decks C and D. Now here's the best bit, that makes it even better than the nanoPad, turn on Juggle mode on the VCI, and miraculously the pads become Hot Cue points from 5-7 whilst the last one becomes a play/pause toggle much like in Eans We Will Rock You video. Bank 2 Main function: Loop Control The bottom row will place a loop on any of the decks. i.e. 1st pad = Deck A, 2nd = deck B etc. You can set the loop length using the bottom row of knobs (bear in mind they have soft takeover in place). The top pad row meanwhile will turn on effect unit 1-4 on the deck that is currently in focus. You can select which deck is in focus by holding down the SHIFT button on the VCI and pressing one of the pads on the top row. I also edited Ean's VCI mapping, so that whichever deck you load a track in moves to focus. Also if you hold down SHIFT the bottom row of knobs now control the each of the 3rd FX values. The top row of knobs are smart-knobs and control each of the FX banks. Feel free to change the sensitivities to your taste. Bank 3 Main function: FX Control The pads on the top row control FX bank 1, the harder you hit the higher the setting. They are set on toggle so 1 tap to set value, 2nd tap to turn it off. The top knobs control FX bank 2. The bottom pads control FX bank 3 using the same technique and the bottom knobs control FX bank 4. The clever bit: If you hold down the SHIFT button on the VCI, you can select which FX units are turned on for which deck. So hold down shift and the top row of pads can turn on FX units 1-4 for deck A. 2nd row controls deck C, whilst the knobs do the same thing, except you have to turn them all the way to the left to turn off the fx banks for decks B and C. I'll try and make a video demonstrating all the features, meanwhile ask ahead if I made no sense whatsoever. Bank 4 Main Function: Track Beat Gridding I've numbered the pads 1-8 starting from the top left pad and going right. Pad 1: Jump back by 4 beats Pad 2: Jump forward by 4 beats Pad 3: Jump back by 1 beat Pad 4: Jump forward by 1 beat Pad 5: Set + Store Cue Point Pad 6: Delete selected/last cue point Pad 7: Cue Pad 8: Play/Pause Knob 1: Next/Previous Cue Knob 2: Set Cue type Knob 3: Seek position Knob 4: Lock BPM Knob 5: Change BPM Rough Knob 6: Change BPM Medium Knob 7: Change BPM Fine Knob 8: Move Grid Marker How to install: Backup your current settings. Download the zipped attachment at the bottom of this post. First of all open the LPD8 editor and load each of the presets supplied in the zip file to their respective program banks and upload them to the LPD8. Import the Midi mappings from the included TSI into traktor as usual. Enjoy! If Traktor seems unresponsive to the LPD8, but is receiving MIDI signals try this: When you first import the TSI, go to settings, then controller manager and choose the LPD8 under devices. Click on the in port (thumbnail 4) and choose the LPD8, see if it works. If it does then change the in port back to All Ports. P.S. For the life of me I cant get the lights to work with midi out from Traktor, if anyone has any hints I'd appreciate it, btw I've read the thread on the Native Instruments community but for some reason it doesnt seem to work. | |

Fransisca Schriever 04.07.2011 | hey, you said that this mapping of lpd8 is getting along with the setting of vci-100..is it possible to use this mapping of lpd8 but in my case combining with reloops DJ2 Interface instead of vci-100?? |
Sherley Headden 16.05.2011 | I just found this thread and realize its old, however if any body comes across this and still needs help I made this video. http://www.djtechmag.com/traktor-mid...ping-akai-lpd8 I have the akai lpd8 so if anyone has any more questions send me a pm or email [email protected] Hope that helps. |
Gertrud Khani 27.04.2011 | You believe you could make one works well with the Hercules RMX? I would greatly appreciate it! If you can forward it to my email -> [email protected] Thanks again! |
Latonya Fehribach 25.12.2010 | Hey is there anywhere I can go to read about all of the functions? CC, PC, midi, bank, etc. All of this is way over my head. I wanted to get into producing music so I decided to start with a nice simple akai lpd8. I'm on a mac and I have garageband as my only software. The only knob I can get to work so far is K7 for volume control. Any total beginner's guides? |
Dian Manzanilla 09.12.2010 | thanks alex for this amazing works !!!! now i try to learn from it !! |

Maegan Yera 14.07.2010 | hey is it possible to use the lpd with a vci 100 ??? i just wanna use it for firering up some hotcues.... an could i use a part of your mapping to do that would be great if u could tell me if this is possible...got some issues with my lpd8 to use it alongside my vestax... |
Alva Ceglio 26.06.2010 | all the lpd8 mapping works fine until i try to use my VCI 100 alongside and then the mappings get all screwy...ive tried a variety of options but i cant seem to get them to run at the same time without some things (i.e. when i increase volume through vci100 it also adjust the tempo down on deck B?) random stuff. Any help to get them to run simultaneously would be greatly appreciated. |
Dana Ordinario 15.06.2010 | Yes it's not an akai thing thats why they havent answered you it's a traktor thing, I'm not sure which exact one it is but I beleive it is under Cue/Loops and Hotcue Select/ Store or something similiar to that sorry for the horrible spelling a little tired atm |
Kimbery Sheff 15.06.2010 | Hello, guys. I have a question about mapping LPD8 to use with Traktor. 1) I wrote to AKAI support but still no answer, so I decided to ask you: does anyone know if I can upgrade LPD8's firmware? Mine is .102 and I believe I need at least .112 to be able to use feedback LED-s from traktor. 2) I'm trying to make pads 1-4 and pads 5-8 works as hotcues for deck A and deck B respectively. I have no idea how to do that, thow. I want to accomplish this:
Is there a way to do this? I'm currently using Traktor 1.1.1 Thank you all in advance, Hristo. |
Doug Bieling 15.06.2010 | I believe i know what your issue is... If you install and open up teh LPD8 Editor software that came with your LPD8 you will see that the cc numbers that are assigned to the rotarys are the same as the ones assigned to teh pads. Just assign different numbers to the rotorys or the pads and you will sort your problem. Gav |
Dani Gutsche 14.06.2010 | I'm having some trouble with my LPD8. I've mapped it on my own to complement my Hercules DJ RMX, mainly the effects I want to transfer on to the LDP8 so that I don't have to work with much modifiers anymore as well to have two rotaries for my balancers. But here's the deal. What I do: - Assigned all chained effects to PAD in prog. 1 - Switch CC in prog. 1 What happens: The harder I push the pad, the more a rotary on the chained FX unit starts to swing! For example; when I push pad 5, the chained dry/wet rotary on FX unit 2 starts to swing up! And that while I haven't mapped pad 5 under CC to any function!!! How can this be? Does it have something to do with my output? Please help! |
Ivonne Date 11.06.2010 | Hope it works well with mine |

If then I go to bank 1 by pressing on program button + PAD1.. traktor goes out of the loop on decks A and B. It seems like he's receiving a sort of reset.. don't know what!?! My configuration is TSP on WinXP, with only the LPD8 controller. Thanks for any help, and congratulations for the work you've done! ;P |

Nidia Scheulen 07.01.2010 | Hi Alex, I'm really looking forward to finally using my lpd8 with your mapping because it looks great but you seem to have forgotten to include the tsi in the zip file. It only contains the presets. please help |

Winston Mazeika 03.11.2009 | First you need to download the LPD editor from here, http://www.akaipro.com/lpd8 or install it from the disc that came with your LPD8. Then download the attached ZIP file from the first post of this thread and unzip it. Connect the LPD to your computer and open the Editor you just installed. Click on load preset, navigate to the folder you just got from unzipping the attachment, select Preset 1 and click ok. Now click on upload, you should receive a green message saying that it was successful. Do this for all the other presets included in the zipped file. When you finish open up Traktor and go to settings, click on import at the bottom left of the settings window and navigate to the newly unzipped folder and choose the file ending with .tsi and click ok. That should be it, if for some reason it doesnt work right away try the tip at the end of the 1st post. Hope this helps |
Karissa Outterbridge 02.11.2009 | Can some body give direct me to a tutorial on how to use the AKAI LPD8 CONTROLLER with TSP I'm using Vista 64 |
Winston Mazeika 31.10.2009 | Ok, my apologies if I made a mistake, but here is the latest export from my bakery. |
Jared Shuger 30.10.2009 | I've got Preset 1 & 2 to work, but not Preset 3 & 4. I don't believe the mapping for Preset 3 & 4 are in the TSI file that you have provided. I checked the TSI file and there's no beatgridding controls. |
Shaunda Delich 30.10.2009 | i still cant seem to work this. i know im very new to all this but still , i should have this working by now. maybe a deeper step by step would help. thanks again! |
Mac Fly 30.10.2009 | Wait its working now for some reason haha, Thanks man!! |
Mac Fly 30.10.2009 | I'm using the newsest version of traktor and no the midi messages are not appearing when I press the buttons. |
Winston Mazeika 30.10.2009 | Hmmmm :S Just a few obligatory question: What version of Traktor are you using? is Traktor showing that it's receiving MIDI messages? (the blue Midi sign at the top of the window should turn blue) and also mac or windows? |
Mac Fly 30.10.2009 | I tried but couldnt get it to work. I imported the mapping as usual and loaded the presets just as you shown them. I also tried switching the ports on both my vci 100 and the lpd8 in all combinations but still couldnt get it to work. It's probally just something small im overlooking... |
Winston Mazeika 31.10.2009 | Updated original post with latest mapping which includes Beat Gridding features for bank 4 and also a feature I forgot to mention about bank 2. BTW anyone have any luck getting this to work? |
Winston Mazeika 30.10.2009 | I cant see what would be the problem, here's the latest tsi, exported using the latest Traktor 1.2.2 you can ignore to import "all other settings" if you want. For some reason the first fx wouldnt turn on in the 4th FX unit when in program 2, this fixes that. I took images of how I have my LPD set up, just click on the little red arrows and you can type in the notes using the keyboard or using the up and down arrows. I have each of the program banks set to different MIDI channels as it makes it easier to sort by banks in traktor. Try this: When you first import the TSI, go to settings, then controller manager and choose the LPD8 under devices. Click on the in port (thumbnail 4) and choose the LPD8, see if it works. If it does then change the in port back to All Ports. |
Shaunda Delich 30.10.2009 | put all 3 presets and uploaded the tsi file to traktor... cant seem to get the akai to work. any help would be great! |
