Traktor Pro Mapping for TouchOsc via Osculator
Posted on: 30.11.2009 by Lupe Shehee
Hey there,
This is actually two setups. 1 for using the iPhone as the mixer for mixing in the box and the second is for using an external dj mixer where the iPhone is used for everything but the main mixer controls.
One Traktor mapping controls both TouchOsc setups
One Osculator map controls them both as well
They both have transport controls, cue point starts, FX controls - Dry wet for each FX and sub FX and on, off (internal can control FX 1 & 2, External can control all four FX)
Loops set, increase, decrease and a nice fader control to turn the loops up or down
filter control and on off for both Channels.
The final page is to browse for tracks and has crate browse, track browse, load to deck a, load to deck b and a toggle browser only button so you can see more while your browsing.
I have only setup decks A & B due to space constrictions but feel free to edit the maps if you believe you want all four decks on your iPhone :-)
My shitty nocturn died again last week so I used these maps to play at Serato Sams birthday party last weekend with no problems at all.
Enjoy!!!

Sorry I didn't reply but I didn't get the notification till just now. Glad you got it sorted. I was believeing of adding a beat juggling page but have got stuck into an iPad midifighter port. I'm not sure if the iPhone really has enough space for it though.
Cheers!

Glad I could help . Was a bit worried I was teaching you to such eggs.

Try the free beta linked above and let us know which mixer you prefer.

hey noeluk,

thanks for the helpful advice, but i already knew how to midilearn with touchosc and traktor. maybe i'm just not understanding how to change the 1st cue point. I know how to set more than 1 cue point and they work as expected, but the 1st cue point is always stuck at the beginning of the song.

Hi elquinto

Sorry, I got confused with which template you were using :-)

I wouldn't want to mess with Pooks' fine work. You may want to DM Pooks to ask direct.

But… if you wanted to change the function of a button, here's a quick way…

1 - With your OSCulator file open and running, press the button and look for a green light in the left columns of OSCulator. This will be the message activated by that button. Make a note of the Midi CC value and channel number.

2 - in Traktor go > preferences > controller manager > and bring up the iPhone's .tsi file. Click on the top of the 'Mapped to' column to arrange everything in order and scroll down to the midi value you noted above. Look at what this is controlling. If you are sure you DON'T need this function, then delete it.

3 - Go > Add In > Cue/Loops > Set/select cue & store; click 'learn' and press your iPhone button. De-select 'learn'.

4 - set 'type of control' as a button, 'interaction': hold; 'assignment' will determine which deck it controls (device target being which ever is Traktor's focus deck); 'value' at the bottom should be the number of the cue point you want to trigger.

Hope that helps.

And, *Pooks*, hope you don't mind the above. Same goes for anyone wanting to customise my layouts :-) Just beware that messing with mappings can lead to trouble!

Hey noeluk, I'm using pooks' touchosc template for the iphone he posted on the first page of this thread. Is there a way to change the cue point thats triggered by the cue button next to play? b/c the touchosc layout's cue button always takes me back to the beginning of the song. Thanks in advance!

Hi Elquinto - I assume you are talking about TOSC layouts from ipad-dj.net or touch-control.com??

The red cue button is similar to pressing the cue button next to the play button in Traktor. It returns to the cue point you were last stopped at in a track (often where the play marker is when you loaded the track).

It's different from the cue point triggers - the markers you set as different cue points through a track. On my layouts you will find these numbered, usually beneath the loop buttons.

I have a new v2.0 layout available as a free beta here - bit.ly/ci6DwF - that has a page just for large loop and cue buttons, alongside a choice of 5 mixer layout types and other new pages. See screengrabs here: http://bit.ly/cp8rLC

The beta download link will be live until the weekend. Fill your boots

Thanks for the template. im a bit of a noob, why does the cue button in touchosc always return me to the beginning of a song no matter where my cue points are?

Make sure you have OSc selected in your in/out ports when Touch OSC is selected as the controller. It will change back to default keyboard when you close preferences because that'e the default one installed from the factory.

Ok, I just reinstalled everything. IT WORKS!!!

My lack of easily transportable dj gear sucks, but now I can play partays with just an iphone and a laptop! stoked!!!

17.08.2010
Yeah that's my problem! Only thing I don't get is why it reverts to keyboard mapping every time I close prefs, even when I select whatever mapping. I've tried every single one posted in this thread, plus a few others I found on the net! I believe I'm going mental!

Hi and welcome!
Do you mean that when you close the prefs in Traktor and then reopen it the mapping it is displaying is the default keyboard one?
If so all you have to do when you open the prefs pane is look at the device title which will be showing "Default Keyboard" and click on the little downward facing yellow triangle at the end of the title. That will open the list of all device mappings you have imported and and you can choose the one you want to look at.

Ok, this is my first post around here, so go easy on me!

I've downloaded touchOSC, OSCulator and everything all the tutorials say I should have. I can see that my phone is communicating with my computer in OSCulator, but when I try load the TSI file into traktor, as soon as I leave the preferences page it defaults back to keyboard. Why won't it let me use my phone as the controller? This is seriously confusing and frustrating!! Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Also if I'm missing anything, let me know!

Pooks, this layout is sick! But I got Windows and I don't believe that osculator is Windows compatible. Is there something else that could be used to help with the send/receive?
Lupe Shehee

I have recompiled the templates to remove a dupe setting in the FX section and I have also written a puredata app that takes the place of Osculator (for those pc users) after a request by one of the members.
Those using puredata still need to install midi yoke and set that up, then assign the midi yoke channels in Pd's prefs and also for the iphone .tsi that you load in to Traktor and your away! Oh I almost forgot there is no two way communication via Pd data sends from touchosc but it does not receive. If anyone knows how or if that works let me know and I will add it in.
All files for both sets of users are in the zip file
Enjoy ;-)

I'm looking for a bidirectional way to control the pitch (tempo) faders.

Traktor receives the input from TouchOSC correctly. However, I couldn't find a way to make TouchOSC receive Traktor input.

I'm using the sync function. So, when Traktor automatically changes the tempo of the synced deck, I would like that this changes would be reflected in the TouchOSC faders.

Has someone managed to do this?

1. Add the touchOSC templates to your Iphone
2. Open the Osculator template in Osculator
3. Add the .tsi to traktor and your done!

The transmit on channel 5 is controlled by the Osculator template so as long as you have that loaded before you move anything on the iphone then it should be all good.

Indeed its very easy to do, just open the template in the TouchOSC editor and add another page with an X Y controller, upload it to your Iphone/Ipad, open the osculator template and move the XY pad on your Idevice and then assign them to a midi output not already used. Then you can map this to anything you like in Traktor

would it be possible to creat a full xy pad with that?

believeing it would be cool to create some kind of kaoss pad like midi controller, with buttons for presets fx on/off on each channel and a sampler using beatmasher/slicer

I just imported the Traktor tsi file and it all worked with the supplied Traktor template. Now to start on getting the midi fighter mapping to work with the basic mapping's 4x4 grid.

Which part of it?
The TouchOSC templates are made with the free editor from their website.
The osculator template was just made by opening osculator and moving all the faders and pressing all the buttons on the TouchOSC template as they would show up in Osculator and then I manually assigned them to midi.
The Traktor mapping is done from the mappings tab in the pref's.
