Sheilah Kurzhal 19.01.2013 | I'm just a huge fan of the progression of art. As a producer w/ 10+ years experience (started young) .. I was always excited about a new tool that would simplify my process .. even though I slaved away a year or two earlier mastering the technique manually or whatever. People would grab the tool or plug whatever it was ... RAPE and BASTARDIZE it ... as I was moving on to the next challenge. DO MORE. BE MORE. TRY HARDER. I can't wait to post my next video. I was already doing more with the gate "scratch simulator" - than what I showed in the video, which was the raw concept. But I've further expanded my mapping for the summer (when I spin regularly) and ... I. AM. HYPE. I've learned so much here. And now that my production EP is finally finished! I can wrap up my Traktor mapping, practice more, and PUT IN WORK!! |

Winter Ruggio 19.01.2013 | ok, i believe we all cleared up whatever it was that people wanted to say.yes,i love using real vinyl,i have traktor skratch, and when i cant find the record in its real for,i use traktor.listen gentlemen,i love technology,i love controller ism.i love the art of the sonic collage as long as it inspires and is positive.real skratching or not,i ama bit older,so i am a bit nostalgic to the real, well practiced art of the kut, especially in its primitive form.i would never insult anyone who loves our culture, since we obviously do cuz we onna community .lol. my apology's if i accidentlly insulted any of my brothers in sound manipulation. and like was shown,a good skratch dj can do perfect gater type kuts with variations that simply cant be done yet.,i believe what got feathers wildin is or was the 'no talent' comment, but that was too explained. now lets make music and go bananas fellas....i truly love the community and the candor of the members/ j-kutta |

Sheilah Kurzhal 07.01.2013 | I believe I may call it ... "Scratch like a BOSS, with *SOME* talent". Totally joking. But I will try my hardest to be sure it's better. So hopefully people will recognize my effort to grow. |

Jonathan Chiuchiolo 07.01.2013 | the context of the argument was that the tracks bpm is edm/house/breaks/dubstep etc... sweet skills in the vid proben but that is to a syncopated hip hop rhythm not a solid four four beat.. promote that shit is dope! never knew the S4 crossfader could move fast enough for tight scratching.. but still hip hop so not what I'm talking about... If anyone has a good example of scratching to dance stuff I'd love to see it so I can learn from it |

It would be great if Traktor improved the gater with more and better pattern options, but even then you're really looking at a tool for mimicking transforms only. Which certainly can be cool, but it doesn't give you the flexibility of scratch combos. |
Sheilah Kurzhal 06.01.2013 | Checking you out on Soundcloud, Corpo ... Love that Free Falling and Soulja Boy mash! Very eclectic selections. I respect that! Insta - follow! #Respect |
Sheilah Kurzhal 06.01.2013 | Dope video, CORPO! I love that! And if I was solely a DJ (my passion is for production) ... I'd strive to get on YO level! Great work! VERY inspiring to me! |

I'm pretty sure not many people could transform and make the same sound as software gate can make and that is the only thing that actually sounds good between 110-135bpm. Natural freeform scratching on the crossfader never sounds perfect IMO and just overshadows the tune. at least when it's gated it meshes with the underlying track better if volume levels are respected. ...Also James Zabeila would make more than $6000 most evening s and plays to larger more diverse crowds more often than any turntablist "craze and a-trak excluded, but they're now house dj's and producers". |

And it did to some degree. |
Deangelo Boender 03.01.2013 | "Huh. this thread is up to five pages now, I wonder how it's going? I mean this is a community
centric on digital djing, I'll be that it's rife with discussion on different gear and technique related to this guys video about digital djing!" Nope, it's just derailed into a bunch of people crapping on this guys modest effort to share something. Maybe if he just got upset the way people are expecting of him this wouldn't have dragged out for so long, but he seems pretty sure of himself, so it might take a few more pages... |
Sheilah Kurzhal 03.01.2013 | For sure ... I tried to convey as quickly as possible my respect for the art ... and that I FEEL the technique is a little cheesy ... but sounds good ... again to me! It's still not enough. Option 1 (best for them) is to overlook a post that contains content that you believe is whack ... Option 2 (somewhat common) a good open minded assessment of your post and a down to earth response be it supportive or non. Option 3 (very common) a belittling or sarcastic response .. as they bring up points that you've already assessed and expressed your reasoning concerning those point that lead you to your opinion or belief ... I'm like "did you even read what I wrote"? I get somewhat emotional when I have to repeat myself ... because someone ignorantly or due to their emotions ... will not acknowledge points that I've already mentioned. But it's like you said ... Get the ladies dancing and it's alllll good. You'll get call backs and love until that stops. Thanks for the reply, mdubs!!

Sheilah Kurzhal 03.01.2013 | Keith ... that's how I feel about it. Honestly. With 10+ years of pursuing record production ... I went through a purist phase where I rarely sampled, wouldn't use loops, hated on the warpers and their clever mashup titles ... just got kind of snobby about it .. because I had to solve a lot of problems on my own, then watch a year later software would come out that solved your problem automatically. I was stubborn to acknowledge / accept the newer / smarter tools. But all that negative energy did was hinder my growth and isolate me as producer. I got over it fairly quickly ... have learned to focus on MY goals ... and to just out grind anyone in my way. Been having some of the most rewarding experiences with my music EVER SINCE! Thank you for the reply, Keith!

Sheilah Kurzhal 03.01.2013 | And that is surely the case ... so I don't really see the problem. I have NEVER experienced a negative remark from anyone live. I believe people are a lot more witty and ballsy on these community
s. I ALWAYS get PROPS from DJ's and guys who are in the know about controllerism and what not. And I'll say it again ... I believe it's because my focus lays primarily on strong TRACK SELECTION and smooth / exciting transitions ... as opposed tricks like this ... which I easily have 20 more of (other "tricks" / stunts) I've ONLY experienced negativity HERE! I don't understand why people who already know how to "scratch like a BOSS" would click the post! THEN disregard the original posters CRYSTAL CLEAR reasoning behind the video and the effect. BUT ... thanks to the title I strategically selected ... My Youtube vid has several hundred views in no time!

I can't imagine cue point juggling with two vinyls. |
Sheilah Kurzhal 03.01.2013 | Umm ... I've stated several times throughout all this ... That I'm not AT ALL offended about what ANYBODY believes of what I'm doing. The "purists" always seem to be the ones not having fun. I just laugh ... as I prepare for another EPIC SUMMER, baby! I don't care what you want to call it ... the subject was meant to be fun and joking ... I looked up the definition of DJ scratching, and I'm no purist and all, but I believe the definition below describes are VERY similar action to what I'm doing. "Definition: Scratching involves moving the LP record forward and backward with the phono needle in the groove to create unique sounds and rhythms." I believe the only one taking offense to anything is you, bro. How about I stop calling it scratching ... and just start calling it making money? It doesn't matter to me. Obviously, you did not watch the video (in full) to hear my commentary on it. I said myself: "It's gay ... but cool. BUT I THINK it sounds good. Maybe it will help you do a little something cool to your set." Some of you people need to seriously get over yourselves ... You kind of sound like mr purist turntable guy in the club ... That's playing dated breakbeats ... scratching like he's sick ... And will not take any input from us in the crowd ... who don't really care about your behind the back transformer crab wiggle toevening . DUDE YOU'RE RUNNING OFF THE CHICKS!!! LIGHTEN, PIMP. If you don't like the Auto Gate Scratch 5000 ... I appreciate that position and the feedback. But don't get emotional about all this.

Hell there's even a mapping called IG ---- no talent required, just press a few buttons. Don't get defensive because someone tells you that's not scratching man, you asked for the critiques. |

Sheilah Kurzhal 04.01.2013 | Much love and respect Calkutta ... You strike me as classy and down to earth. I have no intentions of becoming a realtor. That was analogy to express where I'm at in my life. 29 ... A mortgage ... I have great day job (thank god it involves graphic design / marketing .. creativity) ... and a pile of suppressed musical passion that was never fully released due to various decisions I made which required directing a portion of my focus away from music. I have production placements with some very reputable artists ... I gained those placements at the age of 21-22 w/ honestly a pretty weak effort as far as pursuing opportunities goes ... All I had to do was keep grinding ... and the sky was the limit. But I allowed real life obligations to hinder my creative energy. 6 or 7 years can fly by if you're not careful. So that's my motivation. And I'm completely fine with making a few hundred bucks when I can, for playing songs and having fun for a couple of hours. Even with my production aspirations (which is WAY more important to me than spinning) ... I am not chasing the limelight ... I just want a comfortable existence .. funded entirely by my creative thoughts / work. Anything beyond that ... and I'll be the most humble recipient of praise and adoration that you have ever seen. All signs point to this season of (DJ'ing) being significantly more profitable than my debut last year. When playing these venues no longer make sense for me, financially ... I'll stop. Great talk ... and I harbor nothing but respect for you and your ideas regarding this difference of vision / goal. Keep grinding! The MOB shall judge thee! And if thou were wise ... Thou would hear them.

Sheilah Kurzhal 04.01.2013 | DJ Calkutta - Thanks for the feedback! I whole heartedly respect your position .. and enthusiasm for keeping the artform alive. However ... I believe I made my position throughout this post fairly clear. I have very limited experience playing out ... but due to my network of associates and friends ... or maybe my good looks, wit and charm ... but I have NO problem acquiring gigs in my area after getting my feet wet. I'm not going home ... because I can't scratch. When I started ... for the first month I was nervous as hell ... I focused initially on smart | hot | interesting TRACK SELECTION <--- HUGE I've discovered ... and equally as important .. mixing and transitions. For the first couple of months that's all I pretty much did. No tricks. I cannot say enough about TRACK SELECTION ... it became what I was known for and it wasn't long before my evening s started to hurt the business of the competing, more popular club right next door .. (I'm tight with bartenders there) .. Guess where I'm scheduled to play THIS Spring Break and summer? BOTH clubs on various evening s throughout the season. I'm not trying to be rude either ... But AT THIS POINT in my life having DJ's respect me is a lot less fulfilling ... Than walking away from a club after a couple of quick hours of manipulating well selected songs ... a few hundred extra in your pocket .. some new likes on FB .. And chicks begging you drop just ONE MORE SONG!!!! Then riding home ... contemplating what you're gonna try next week ... or the next evening sometimes! I've got a HUGE list of skills that would be more beneficial to my career than learning to scratch, the "real" way. I'd rather go get a real estate license ... so I could have a more flexible schedule to produce more music ... AND DJ / hit play in the clubs! If I was 16 again ... I'd be all over it. BUT ... I'm getting older and feel like I need to GRIND TRIPLE OVERTIME to catch up to where I know I could be. So, my friend ... I TRULY appreciate your passion and insight! However ... It is up to YOU to save turntablism ... It is up to ME to supplement my primary source of income w/ other streams, so that I may more efficiently pursue my passion of record production. And I'm gonna keep showing up with my limited experience, MBP, S2, Launchpad, Odyssey flight case, and my headphones ... until these super drunk chicks and club owners get off my nuts! I am Breed and I approve this message.
