The best place to get started is to check out Apple's website actually - I believe it was http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/ - that should get you all set on the little "how the hell do I do that again?" issues. Using just that and google for more difficult issues I was able to transition no problem.

+1 on the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter for accessories

Nice one I've found my move to Mac for DJing has eliminated a load of issues. Happy to say I haven't had so much as a glitch in the last 4 years.

Enjoy it....you will not look back.

Once you are over the stage of "I am the man....as I can service my own laptop and make it fast again"....then the Mac will be VERY appealing.

I am so sick of Windows i can cry. After almost 20 years of working and supporting it....I am done!

Now I use the Mac as a tool, without having to even believe about updating AV, drivers....clean up....etc.

Once in a while I give the Mac some love and even then....I believe its just for my own sanity than actually needing it!

All you need now is an iPhone! HAHAHAHAHAHA

I havent tried boot camp but i use a program calld parellels which allows me to run windows (only for Music Manager by Denon to analyze files for the DNS3700s). Parallels allows you to run Windows & OSX at the same time and you can just click from one to the other without reboot. I hate windows because it reminds me of work, Haha.

Easiest is to use a USB DVD drive, get a Windows installation disc, then open up the Bootcamp program (included in OSX) and follow the instructions. I tried it over USB but had issues half way through installing.

The main difference I find is getting used to the key combinations - mostly you use Command instead of Ctrl.

MiniDisplayport to HDMI, VGA adapters.

You might have issues on your Windows partition with some sound cards as the new Macbooks are all USB 3.0, this is what stopped me comparing Windows vs OSX performance on Traktor..

Welcome to the OS with cool MIDI stuff already natively supported.
Things like MIDI over WiFi/LAN.

But, I sincerely hope you'll like the UI. I love the CMD + space quick key combo. (after that just start typing what you want to open, no paths needed etc.)

Regarding bootcamp, haven't needed it thus far in 4 years.

Unless its a mega High Powered Application (e.g. Gaming) I use VMware to run windows .. Its Much MUCH handier than needing to re-boot into windows (and safer) and you can run multiple versions of windows at once - create networks etc ...

Apps I use Frequently:

FFMPEGX - Video Converter
Audiacity - Audio Editor / Batch Converter
Midi Stroke - Midi to Keystroke emulator.
Soundflower - Internal 16ch Virtual Audio Routing
Keka - For Zipping files without including the crappy "Dot" files.
BatChmod - Drag and Drop Batch Permission Editor
Keyfinder - Find keys of Songs
MacSaber - Because its cool :P
VMware - Run Virtual Machines including Virtual Macs.
Onyx - Clean up log files/indexes/repair permissions, speeds things up.

Apps: what are the OSX apps that you use the most frequently? I'm especially interested in apps that are OSX only.

Accessories/peripherals; what are you guys finding you can't live without?

I need to eventually make this leap of faith as well (and I owned a MacBook previously, not currently though) and seeing all the Windows shinies for a fraction of the price isn't making it an easy choice, so threads like that really are a great motivation. Thanks

And congrats on your purchase! Mac sure has some badass hardware.

I believe one thing I would also take into consideration is also reliability.

Which OS is less likely to crash.

Which laptop has the best battery life in case the power trips out.

Which laptop is less likely to have a hard drive failure.

^ I believe making sure you have a reliable laptop will alleviate a lot of headaches, and keep you from buying new ones.

For me I don't have an issue with windows but if I were to upgrade I would go with a 3rd party Linux OS, and yes I use Traktor as well.
