New Traktor 2 APC40 Mapping
Posted on: 14.03.2012 by Fausto Jeanlouis
I'm a long time lurker and I've recently put together what I've learned here into a fairly comprehensive mapping for the Akai APC40.

I spent a long time using the Collision mapping as it's the best I've found for the APC40 but it just didn't get me where I wanted to go. So instead of forcing myself to play around the mapping, I started from scratch using some of the ideas I picked up from all you good folks. Here's some of the features:

The Good

* Four Deck transport controls available full time
* Full time LED feedback on play state, sync state, active loops, and beat phase. LED feedback on cue points for two decks at a time.
* Two banks of Instant Gratification pads for each deck
* 6 Fader FX "Superknob" presets tied to two faders.
* FX faders shift to pre-mapped settings on IG FX pads for modulation while the pad is held
* Full FX control for all 4 units using shift parameters
* 2 Deck selection modifiers to allow effect combinations

The Not so Good

* Utilizes the APC40's "Dumb" mode which requires starting Ableton prior to launching traktor (I'm working on a script to eliminate this step. If anyone has managed to put the APC in mode 1 via midi sysex, let me know.)
* No pitch faders. (I use a separate controller with jog wheels and pitch faders. There are a few modifiers untapped to shift the volume controls if someone really wanted to.)
* FX units are shifted to the device control knobs, requiring soft pickup when moving between modes. In the APC's dumb mode, the track selection pads do not shift the midi channel of these knobs. As a result, when you select an FX mode, it leaves the knob position in the same place your EQ was set. Soft pickup keeps the settings in Traktor from snapping to match them.

Here's the layout of the mapping in a nutshell without detailing all the shift modes.

I wanted to guage everyone's interest before I go trying to fully document the thing and posting it up. Is this something anyone would want to play around with?

I am really interested in this option too, I'm keeping my eye out for it and searching for one whenever I remember too

Can you send me this mapping please? This is the only one I have been able to find that has the eq's mapped the way I want.

Id really love to experiment with your creation before embarking on my own.. i plan on making a visualizer
switch that makes my grid matrix visualize via loop recorder size output.

Definitely interested in this. I tried playing about with the Collision mapping but I couldn't get my head round all the modifiers! Does your IG mapping contain all the combos out of interest?

I like the idea. I have an s4 and am getting an APC40 soon (ordering it toevening ). I was believeing about making an fx/cue point type mapping for the APC once I get it. The transport and mixer section of this mapping would be useless to me, but I am interested in the fx section. I'll let you know what I believe once I get it.
