2 x LPD8 and Traktor Pro 2 - Midi Fighter Instant Gratification Replica + extras Posted on: 04.06.2011 by Bettye Thuy I just finished painstakingly trying to reverse engineer and re-create the midi-fighter instant gratification mapping on a couple of LPD8s. This mapping has been based on a mixture of watching instant gratification videos, trial and error, and the use of this thread (http://www.djranking
s.com/community
/showthread.php?t=24757)The zip file contains 3 files- 2 preset files and a mapping file. Orienting your LPD8s one on top of another to form a 4x4 grid, you need to apply the preset midifighter1 in the top LPD8, and midifighter2 in the bottom LPD8. After that, import the mapping file LPD8MIDIFIGHTER, including controller mapping and effects settings, and you should be good to go. On top of the 16 buttons representing the midi fighter, there are some other features in this mapping- some which may be odd as they're specific to my set up. Some are odd just because after mapping the pads I had 16 knobs and no idea what to do with them, so they're mostly experimenting. I can make a more consistent and solid set up if there's interest. The first 2 columns of knobs (assuming the LPD8s are oriented one on top of another) load, route, and activate combinations of effects to the highlighted tracks, as well as control their amounts. I don't suggest combining these, as they overlap- I routed most of these combos through FX3 to keep FX1 and 2 more free for manual control. The fourth column loads and routes various phasers or flangers (2 of each) to the highlighted decks. The third column is particularly weird. I have the LPD8 set up to control FX3 when in CC mode, specifically the beat slicer, and column 3 was assigned for this purpose. IMPORTANT: To work around the lack of a 4 banks mode for the LPD8 akin to the Midifighter, the mapping has been modified slightly. The top row of buttons are toggles, which represent decks A, B, C, and D, each linked to a modifier. When highlighted, effects will apply to each of the highlighted decks. Basically, what this means is you do not have the ability to directly save your patterns like the original midi fighter (although you could still record it through the loop recorder), or use 4 separate banks, but you have complete control over how many and which decks to apply the effects and combos to. Issues: -For Combo 4, you need to hold down beatmasher 1, 2, and 3, THEN release, hold beatmasher 3, then press beatmasher 4 (The original mapping required you to press, but not hold initial 3 beatmashers). -Combo 6 mentioned in the aforementioned thread is not mapped. I have no idea what the combo does, therefor I could not program it. -Minor discrepancies between parameter values in my mapping and the original mapping. -It's entirely possible there are other issues I'm not privy too, as my S4 and X1 mappings. | |

Do you still have this mapping so I could understand how it works (especially this deck assignation function...)? Thanks a lot, Regards! |
Bettye Thuy 10.06.2011 | I note you'll probably want to use the LPD8 presets for the bottom LPD8 if you go this route. The reason being that the top row is in toggle mode for the top LPD8. And sorry, I couldn't make a mapping specifically for you. While it's not a hard thing to do (IT's fairly easy to learn- I've only been using it for a couple months myself), it's incredibly time consuming to do mappings. |

I believe maybe bank 1 applies to a different device? Any thoughts? EDIT: Ok so I figured out device B is the one that works and if I set the device target to focus and the in/out ports both to LPD8 that seems to work sweet! Ok new problem and I figured I'd just ask here incase it's a common problem. I have a kontrol s4 and when I have 4 effects sections the effect #2 on buttons for decks A & C don't work and the effect #1 on buttons for decks B & D don't work? |

Jacquelyn Swiatkowski 08.06.2011 | Alright so, The good news is I've already got the 8 pads doing the 8 effects I wanted them to. The bad news is that whenever I push them they turn off on deck A and turn on in Deck B...I don't know how to fix this? |
Chasidy Heckenbach 08.06.2011 | btw the midi fighter note map for bank1 of the 4banks mode is this: Code:
C-1 C#-1 D-1 D#-1 G#2 A2 A#2 B2 E2 F2 F#2 G2 C2 C#2 D2 D#2 |

Jacquelyn Swiatkowski 08.06.2011 | I know it's not difficult to do I just don't really know how to do it. I've had difficulty with even the simplest mappings.. |

Jacquelyn Swiatkowski 08.06.2011 | I know this is a lot to ask but would you be able to quickly make me a mapping for the lpd8? I've given it some thought and I don't need the 4 toggle banks and I could do without the first two beatmashers (the slowest ones) and without the 2 gater effects. That leaves 8 effects that could be mapped to the 8 pads on the lpd8. I would do this myself but my mapping skills are limited and so I was hoping you could quickly throw this together for me please? |
Bettye Thuy 06.06.2011 | Here's something you can do, just an idea- When I had just one LPD8, I mapped half the midi fighter effects in pad mode, and half in CC mode on the LPD8. I used the knobs to control the modifiers for deck activation- the top 4 knobs set a modifier either to 0 (off) or 1 (on) when it was turned up. The disadvantage of this method is that you don't really have access to reverb, t3 delay, the 2nd lfo, and echo freeze while playing with the beatmasher and gater. Makes most of the combos aside from the double gate and beatmasher transpose non-functional. |
Jacquelyn Swiatkowski 06.06.2011 | Nevermind I believe I've solved my own problem. I've just uploaded the 2nd preset since I don't need the effect banks toggles. Just a heads up to other other people who might want to do this: You can't commit the upload of the preset while traktor is open. Seems like the lpd8 editor and traktor don't like each other so if you're having trouble make sure traktor isn't open - that should work. Nice mapping. |
Jacquelyn Swiatkowski 06.06.2011 | would this work with just one lpd8? I've only got one but I really like the idea of using it as a midi fighter to compliment my kontrol s4. Is it possible to use just like half of your mapping or something? |
