Quick question on Akai MPD pads and MIDI notes...
Posted on: 28.07.2011 by Marvella Henage
So I just got an Akai MPD26, and I'm most of the way through a really complex, but very fun mapping (bank A - cue points and fader fx, bank B - sample decks, bank C - global and deck view+other settings, bank D - effects).

The problem I'm running into is that every time I unplug and then plug in the unit, it resets the notes that are assigned to the pads. For some reason it defaults such that the top row of pads is the same notes as the bottom row in the next bank of pads. This overlap might be useful in Ableton where you're scrolling up and down, but for Traktor obviously I want each pad to be a different note on each bank.

So i have to manually set the notes using the Edit button and the rotary programming encoder at the top right, every single time i want to use my mapping.

Is there a way to set my note settings permanently?

Thanks,

with the mpd 24 you can create your own setting, eg if you flick through the available ones you have settings for programs like bdf, reason, ableton, mpc2000 etc... the at the end you have custom ones that you can modify in the settings. you can set all the different midi notes, midi steps, sensitivity for the pads knobs and sliders etc... I made my own gave it a name and just choose that option before loading up my software... I assume the mpd26 is the same as they share many components.

There are far too many steps and options to give a step by step on a community , but that's why akai made the manual

I realized that the MPD does only do that "row doubling" between banks A+B and C+D, so I ended custom mapping only A and C and am looking into doing the rest with modifiers.

Obvisouly I'd prefer to use all banks instead (mainly because of the screen feedback I get for what bank is active), so how do you manually set the notes and doesn't the MPD save them when you save it's current preset?

there is, i've got an mpd26 and had the same prob when i first got it, i've just gotta turn mine on and i'll remember since this is something i do often enough i don't really believe about it anymore. i just saw this as i was leaving so i'll inform you if no one else does or you don't figure it out by then.
