Scamo's Traktor S4 FX Jogs Xtreme Mapping - Builder Version Posted on: 01.08.2012 by Rey Holubar The goal of this Builder mapping is to give everyone the basis to create their own mappings with their own effect groups or modes. The tutorial video attached to this mapping is about the fundamentals of my mapping and it is my first video, so go easy on me.;-) I'll be coming out with a "How to map my mapping" video very soon and it will be posted in the DJTT.com community . I'll see if I can edit in a link to the video here too, so everyone using this mapping can also be informed about its release and be able to learn the basics to mapping their own effects modes. In this thread, I go more in depth into how the mapping works and how to map an FX mode with the builder mapping. http://community .djranking s.com/showthread.php?t=56596 To install this mapping, open the "Preferences" window in Traktor and click on the big "Import" button at the bottom left. Find the Builder TSI file you downloaded here on your computer, select it and press "Open". Then press "Ok" to accept the categories to import. Do this import procedure twice to make sure the mapping has installed correctly. I hope you have fun with this mapping and you all start posting forks of my mapping here with your ideas of effect modes. I'd really like that!:-) scamo Update: 5.0.2 Feature addition 1: In this mapping, you do not have to press shift to select effect modes with the gain knobs, once you are in FX Jogs mode. Feature addtion 2: You can now press shift to adjust the gain, when in FX jogs mode. Bug correction: Selection of FX modes, when not in FX Jogs mode fixed. If you are not in FX Jogs mode, the gain knobs only adjust gain values for the channels now. Update: 5.0.3 Fixed issue with increments only going to 4 and not 7. Fixed issue with set value for knob 3 of the grouped effect units. Update: 5.0.4 Fixed issue with modifier 8

Geoffrey Keberlein 15.09.2012 | HOLY FACK!!!!!! I stop popping in the community
for 3 days and all the sudden Scamo posted a the BETA!!!! YOU DA MOFO MAN SCAMO Much thanks!!!!!!!!! Best of luck with your upcoming gig too!!! |
Mikki Retana 13.09.2012 | You are the man scamo! Much love. |
Rey Holubar 13.09.2012 | So you guys want a beta pre-release? Ok. Let me go get the mapping and I'll post it up in a thread with no frills. Edit: Ok, Let's go! http://community .djranking s.com/showthr...754#post528754 scamo |
Delena Katherman 11.09.2012 | I believe this is a great idea. We are already impressed, and are very familiar with the old mapping, so hopefully we could give you some good feedback. We could discuss the various modes (or any confusing modes) in a thread on this community , which might also be helpful to others anyway even when the videos are finished. |
Geoffrey Keberlein 12.09.2012 | How about the few of us that are DYING to try this and learn hands on get a copy of it as is, lets say a 'beta'. That way it won't be a full release causing mass hysteria and the few fans of your mapping that cannot wait to try this get a chance while knowing what we are getting into. |
Tamra Millus 10.09.2012 | Your mapping will be phenomenal! And you have no need to explain how to work with it! You've built it as YOU want it. It is up to us to learn and appreciate your incredible job! So you should not be worried that people would not like it! |
Rey Holubar 09.09.2012 | I'm here. Been posting some and working a lot except on the mapping. Working and practicing also towards our first gig, which is going to happen at the end of this month. I'm so excited I feel like a teenager again... I am not sure when I will release the full version. I'd like to before our gig, so it is out of my mind, but I just don't want to promise anything. To be really honest too, I am also very afraid it will just disappoint a lot of you, especially if I don't explain how the effects are meant to work and that is why I don't want to publish it without an explanation/ turorial video. I'll get it out. Just please stay the nice patient people you have been. scamo |
Delena Katherman 07.09.2012 | Hope Scamo is ok. He's been silent for a while! |
Geoffrey Keberlein 06.09.2012 | Just checking in as usual to see if there is any update on this... Scamo, you are almooooooost there!!!! I can't wait!!!!!! |
Delena Katherman 03.09.2012 | You guys aren't alone! |
Lucia Boemer 03.09.2012 | Me too... even is it isn't perfect or have a video... I can't thank you enough for your'e hard work on this..... |

You should release what you have currently in beta for with a "don't use this to perform out" disclaimer and appease us mappingheads. Looking forward to scratching up my effects. |

In my Builder version introduction video I catch for instance the vocal "Get up" in Bingo Player's "Rattle" and use the Dry/Wet to sort of re-enter the vocal throughout the verse to give it a differenct flair. scamo |
Kellie Myrum 27.08.2012 | That's thing with bouncer, you simply like it or not, no middle there. Like I said before I use it most with techno for spicing up next track or to create brake when dropping next track cue and it works great to me for that purpose. Isn't that I use it like I showed you in video, you can hear it 50-100-0% there. I got question about this builder mapping. Can you simultaneously use FX units (faders/buttons) when in jog FX mode? Say you're engaging units 1 and 2 with any jog mode and manipulate it to some point where for example you want only to change bouncer filter a bit with knob and then toggle FX section to control unit 1 group FX to trigger those effects from buttons. I know those buttons are indicating mode# on LED output but those inputs can still send some massages. |
Rey Holubar 26.08.2012 | Thanks for that Stewe. I really appreciate you taking the time and please don't take this wrong, but this is exactly why I made the Builder version. I had the bouncer doing just that, but it just didn't sound right to me. The bouncer goes off-beat and that, to me, kills the energy instead of enhancing it. But, that is just me. It sounds like you are playing something minimalistic and maybe with that kind of music, adding a bouncer actually picks up the energy. However, in my music, or at least with my taste in effects, it just doesn't work for me. Another update and a disappointment (for me) too. I just couldn't find enough time this weekend as I had hoped for. The mapping is finished except for a couple of small enhancements I want to make after playing with it a little again yesterday and also mode 14 is empty. I believe I'll probably leave it empty for now (sorry Stewe). The mapping has a total of 15 modes now. I could just throw the mapping at the world, but now I know for sure people will go "WTF" on some of the effect modes, if I don't explain what my intentions with them were. And I know for sure, some people will like some effects and some certainly won't like some effects. At any rate, stay patient as ever and I thank you staying patient. scamo |
Kellie Myrum 26.08.2012 | I got bouncer set to sound how I want to and still kinda experiment with group effects to find some new ways to express it. I switched delay for Iceverb in this example so you can better hear it. Hope you can find it useful. I'm considering to make one "glitch" mode in my mapping and dedicate it only for bouncers and bitslicers. It's crazy shit I know but I love to destroy some beats from time to time |
Josefina Schutten 25.08.2012 | stupid youtube that blocked it in Italy D: i really want to see the video!! |
Rey Holubar 24.08.2012 | Great. Thanks. I spent about an hour and a half yesterday trying to make it sound good to me, and couldn't. It might be how I've set it up and once I can hear what I should be expecting (a video of how you use it would be even better, but not necessary), then I can have a better idea of where to head to. scamo |
Kellie Myrum 23.08.2012 | You must time every press to grab nice sample like snare or high vocal to get it going because filter parameter is set to 100%. I'll post it as sooner I could. Maybe tomorrow. |
Rey Holubar 23.08.2012 | Hey Stewe. Any chance of hearing how your effect is supposed to sound? I can't seem to get the bouncer to sound any good to me at all. Maybe if I can here how it is supposed to sound, I can get it set right. scamo |
Kellie Myrum 22.08.2012
Rey Holubar 21.08.2012 | @Stewe - ok, I believe I have it now. Thanks. @howler - that is great to hear. Thank you both for the feedback. scamo |
Vertie Halcon 22.08.2012 | Scamo, just want to say I really appreciate the effort you have put into this and without your builder mapping I don't believe I'd be able to create mappings that I want I've well and truly caught the mapping bug now! |
Kellie Myrum 21.08.2012 | Actually peak, delay and reverb are set to unit 1 and bouncer to unit 3 in my tsi. Unit 1 = group Unit 2 = group Unit 3 = group/single Unit 4 = group/single Dry/wet / map to go 0.000 on release Dry/wet = 0.500 /enc Peak = 0.000 / button-inc (fine) Delay = 0.700 Reverb = 0.300 |
Rey Holubar 20.08.2012 | Ok, this is good. So you have the first effect unit in single mode with Bouncer and Dry/wet = 0.410 Knob 1 = 0.500 Knob 2 = 1.000 (no relative enc) knob 3 = 0.597 Effect on Button 2 on Then the second effect unit in group mode with peak filter reverb delay with the peak filter value sweeping. What values do the reverb and delay and the dry/wet have? Probably not too much, I would guess. scamo edit: it means a bit more work, because I'll have to switch the effect units around (group to single and single to group), but I like that idea, as it also shows you can basically do anything with each mode in order to achieve the effect jogs effects you want. So I'll do this for mode 14. It should be interesting. |
Kellie Myrum 20.08.2012 | Yes. Peak does sweep 0-100% ether turned left or right side and delay and reverb are on you, it's there to give more room to bouncer. |
Rey Holubar 21.08.2012 | So those values are for just bouncer in single mode? scamo |
Kellie Myrum 21.08.2012 | You have right that bouncer really isn't kind of effect everybody should use very often and especially not with house and dance music. I like to use it for buildups when mixing techno and pitching vocals and snares. Dry/wet = 0.410 Knob 1 = 0.500 Knob 2 = 1.000 (no relative enc) knob 3 = 0.597 This parameter will give glitchy sound that you can build up or down. I could paste sensitivity for each knob but it would make no sense since S4 jog it five times more accurate than BCD. Can't wait to see jogs on Behringer Studio 4A though. edit* How could i forget forget.. Effect on Button 2 on |
Rey Holubar 21.08.2012 | Well, to be honest, I did try to make the bouncer sound useful, but wasn't able to, well, not to my liking. I also had a good time getting the slicer to sound useful too. That is also a good reason why there needs to be a builder version. The effects combinations I like and can use for my preferred genres of music might work well for me, but might be to soft or not wild enough or maybe even too hard or wild for others. What base values do you use for your bouncer effect and which amounts do you change? Maybe I can use them to get the last mode in. scamo |
Kellie Myrum 20.08.2012 | Hey scamo, have you mapped in bouncer effect? You can do some crazy stuff with it in single mode and spice it up with some peak, reverb and delay in group mode. That's something from my mapping |
Rey Holubar 20.08.2012 | Actually, I was believeing about something like that too, but if you actually start getting into mixing effects and fiddling with the values for the effects in both group and single mode, finding the right amount of Dry/Wet and also choosing between using 1, 2, 3 or 4 chained effects, the possibilities are incredible and impossible to cover in a single "preset". Plus, there are "peripheral" things you can also map like a Delay in the Single Mode FX units that turn into an echo freeze with the effect unit on/off button (like in my mode 1). That is also why I made the builder version. You just have to experiment with a temp mapping, write down what you come up with and then apply it to your own full version. Or if you are a really good mapper, just go at making your own effects modes in your own full version. Scott |
Delena Katherman 20.08.2012 | Thanks for the update! Maybe you could make a "generic" effect for the final preset that is all ready for us to modify to make our own preset. All we would have to do is go into the mapping and change the FX selection for the 3 effects, and some of the parameters, and we would be good to go. That way we could play around with one of the presets without losing any of the ones you've worked hard on. Just a thought. Looking forward to the mapping either way. |
Rey Holubar 20.08.2012 | Thanks jdownesbaird, but it is a bit more complicated and unfortunately more money couldn't help directly. Would be nice, but I couldn't simply and quickly get out of prior and long term engagements with just more money. But here is an update. The full mapping is at about 95% now and an idea for just one more one-shot missing - effect mode 14. And, I am going to make an introduction video, because the effect modes I have come up with need explanation. Even I can't just turn the knob and actually remember what I have done and use it effectively. This mapping takes tons of practice to be useful and enhance your mix. Maybe it is my own lack of experience and lack of time to practice with it.... Anyhow..... It is getting there. Just please be more patient with me. Yesterday I tested some and found some bugs. I still need an idea for that last effect mode. I now have a couple of beatmashers, slicers, pulsing gators, 3 different sweeps, armeofme's sweep drama effect, a lofi pulse and another one , I have a TTFX stop behind a beatmashing transpose stretch (which takes practice to master. I still haven't gotten it perfected yet) and I have what I believe is a neat and simple T3-Delay effect (which still needs explanation and practice to get right and thus my decision to make a video tutorial.) I am missing now just the last idea for an effect mode. Anyone have a suggestion? scamo |
Delena Katherman 19.08.2012 | Let us throw some money your way to at least make all this worth your time! A lot of people appreciate your work, and are more than willing to support you. I admire that you've done all this for free so far, but maybe it's time to make enough cash to make up for the other areas in your life you'll have to compromise to finish the project. |
Marti Virkler 18.08.2012 | Any word on the mapping scamp. Really looking forward to this.
