FL studio can do that fine. A really awesome feature i like about FL studio is that you can make those all mighty powerful dashboards. With a little bit of simple maths they become extremely friggen powerful and you get a visual representation of whats going on in your mix without 45 million plug-in windows open.

hey eskobar,

i use an axiom to control traktor. i use the axiom 25 as an all in one controller. i know you have the 49 and that's actually better. I use the bigger one at school but I am pretty sure the only thing that the 25 does not have is the fader controls. Which will prove useful for a 4 deck set up.

I pretty much only use 2 decks an i don't actually have the channel volume mapped to anything in my set up. This is ok with a 2 deck set up but not really good for a 4 deck set up. You are going to want to map each deck a b c d to the control faders of your choice.

Now in order to be able to map the rest of the rotary knobs and drum pads etc... you are going to have to learn how to only control 1 decks parameters at a time. That is by using the "focus" setting. That means you will have to map the "focus select" option to a key on the keyboard. I use the record button because it is next to the play button and you are going to be hitting this button all the time. Its pretty easy because you raley need to cue 2 decks at once when mix style djing.

So this is what I mapped things to.

Wheels

Pitch bend = nothing at the moment
Mod Wheel = Crossfader

Transport

Record = Focus Select
Play = cue play focused deck
Stop = sync focused deck
Loop = loop on focused deck
Scrub backward = Loop length forward change focused deck
Scrub forward = Loop length backward focused deck

Rotary Knobs top and bottom rows left to right.

knob 1 = focused deck gain
knob 2 = focused deck eq low
knob 3 = focused deck eq mid
knob 4 = focused deck eq hi
knob 5 = fx parameter 1
knob 6 = fx parameter 2
knob 7 = fx parameter 3
knob 8 = fx parameter 4

Drum Pads

C18 = tempo down
C14 = tempo up
C19 = Focused Deck Monitor Cue
C15 = Focused deck Low Kill
C20 = Focused deck Jump to cue 1
C21 = Focused deck Jump to cue 2
C16 = Focused deck Jump to cue 3
C17 = Focused deck Jump to cue 4

Then I use various keys on the keyboard to do things like browse and add songs so I don't need to use a mouse.

Some other parameters mapped to the keys are.

Focused Deck FX button 1-4
Focused Deck FX change
Jump to Cue for Selected decks A - B
Browser
Add song to focused deck

You will want to add your Control faders to Decks A B C D to mix in 4 deck style.

If you are using other midi programs and somehow changed your Axioms parameters you might need to hold down the - + buttons while restarting it. It will set your axioms controls back to general midi.

I will share my .tks with you if you believe it will help you.

Im adding the vci-100 to my live set up. I believe it will be a great addition. Although my axiom does a pretty good job. I want to be able to scratch video.

Oh if you decide to go with an external mixer you will need soundcard. Or some mono to stereo splitters if you don't want to buy a sound card.

On my macbook I actually use the built in sound card. You can do this if you have another sound card lets say like an iMic or a bluetooth headset or something. Just something cheap because you really only need an extra out for headphones if you are mixing internal. To set a multi sound card solution you need to make an aggregate device in your audio midi utilities. Just name the device something an set your internal soundcard out 1-2 and external device to be out 3-4 etc... then in traktor select the aggregate device not the soundcard and you should be good to go. I actually set up aggregate device for a few options in traktor.

A really good free program to get is soundflower, by cycling 74. It lets your route audio from any app to another. I use the soundflower in lets say a brodcast solution for tracktor. So I can take iChat av conversations and run them through traktor etc...

I believe I know what you are talking about. Do you believe it is in the reflex of the keys (if that is the right term). I noticed nice keyboards seem to feel more like a piano when you press down the keys.

well perhaps its the semi weighted thing.. I didnt know what they meant by it.. thought it was a fancy word for nothing.. but then I played with someone elses keyboard that wasnt.. then I understood
to me its pretty much difference between playing with a cheap toy and playing with a quality gadget I guess.. dunno if u know what I am trying to say..

one of my first controllers was a 49key. I really thought it was too big for what i was doing. Then i went to an axion 25 witch was amazing, but got stolen then moved to my oxygen. And really i thought i would be missing things, and im not. Cause i always have used an external mixer i thought i was gaining somthing with all of those extra nobs and faders. But duder if you need all that IE possibly ableton then all power to ya. The axiom is a great series for controllers.

yeah sounds to me like u could do all this fine..
u can assign anything to anything on the axiom so then any option in traktor will be assignable to the Axiom

about hot to choose wich one u are listening to through headphones.. well i guess someone more knowledgable will have to help u on this cause ive only done it with 2 decks and not 4

Hi guys,

I've been following the thread since I want to get myself the Axiom 49 too, but have some more questions about it:

well here is what I'd like to do :

use the Axiom 49 to control 4 decks in Traktor (for the moment, until i get enough mone to buy Ableton Live). I'm still wonering if I'll create seperated controls (each button controls ONE specified deck) or or unique control, then one to switch from a deck to another. It's actually what I have at the moment : I'm using a keyboard with labels on the touches (a bit like some mod that was posted a few weeks ago with a repainted keyboard, well I got the same at home since about a year). All the controls are in the keyboard, and i used the 1 to 4 touches to change from deck 1 to 4.

The keyboard would be connected to my Macbook. I'd also need a sound card. Since the rate of euro against dollar is pretty interesting, I believe I can get mself something up to 200USD more or less.

What I want to know is what to pick if I want to do the EQ and Fader control on the club's mixer ? Because I've always found that software EQing is not as good as hardware one. But it would also mean that I need 4 RCA Outputs going from the sound card to the mixer, isnt it ?

Besides, if ever I do the EQ and fading on the computer, I need to cue and pitch thanks to a headphone. If i understood well from some topics and videos, all I need is a soundcard with headphone output, and then to set up Traktor so it 'sends' the sound through the headphones ... but in such case, how do we pick what deck is being heard through the headphones ?

Hope I made myself clear enough, not always easy when it comes to technical details.

Thanks for helping
Sina.

ok so i got my new AXIOM 49 plugged in a have messed around all evening and toevening too its pretty sweet..
having problems with fruity loops recognizing it.. dining room and when decided to moove it to my room for some late evening messing around suddenly the drivers didnt recognize it.. its like everytime i boot my laptop i gotta reinstal the software drivers..
hmm
other than that.. i have been mostly using the sliders haha not a big fan of the knobs yet.. kinda hard to get the feel of it.. but havent switched they responsive curves yet...
now gonna try messing with it in traktor see what it does for me hehe..
man fruity loops i thought was pretty sweet up until i realised i couldnt add an echo on top on my mixer for a channel... but i dont want to have to multi link all the echo knobs of my different channels.. damn..
might be time for me to look into reason.. but looks soooooooo complicated

hmmm
but the axiom so far is pretty sweet

Yes I know what you what you mean with the gear . I would be like a child and just hit buttons over and over while laughing. lol

Then I could eventually use the device, after weeks of silliness.

Do you dj with ableton? I have been looking at the vci for a while now. I figure if I had the money I would get the Numark NS7... so sexy, so sweet.

It is like 3x the price. I don't even know if that is released yet.. lol

Looks like a sweet toy also!
I just went for the axiom 49 cause it seemed to me that I had everything I needed in one package.. at least to start with.
I was going to get the Axiom 25 but then got affraid that after a few weeks of fiddling with it I would have wanted an mpc or a second mixer.. the sliders also got me interested since in my non-dj brain, I seem to relate to those more than knobs.

but now I am affraid of wanting to get a vci.. and im trying not to believe about it too much haha need to save money.. not spend it!

Axiom should come in today before 4 will take pics and let u guys know what I believe of it.. coming from a newbies standpoint.

Peace!

I've been debating on retiring my oxy8 and getting a KeyRig 25. The placement of the knobs and buttons make it perfect for effects and I would use the keys like I do know (beat/loop jumps).

Should be getting it tomorow, sooo damn excited its ridiculous haha
feels like im 12 again on xmas eve
I guess I will tell you about it when I hook it up!

Ive been only reading good on them.. other than not many presets come with it.. (wich apparently can be fixed easily with creating your own for your favorite software, wich is pretty obvious.. who uses default presets anyway..)
and the knobs that turn to infinity.. apparently can cause some programs to wonder where its default position is..

well see!

Peace
