your just a tad bit crazy for opening up a sushi restaurant dj'ing AND building diy controllers. shew! i used to run a mom and pop shop style dairy bar so i know the time it takes for a restaurant. good luck to ya man! i might have to hit that place up before i leave for kuwait this winter.

Ok, just to let you know, I haven't forgotten about this.

I just opened a new Sushi restaurant and i'm there 14-16 hours a day, everyday. So i haven't really had any free time. But if you give me a little bit of time to get everything sorted out and running smoothly there, then i'll get on top of this.

Just so you know I've never seen an ozone before. Just looked it up and noticed it had a sound card built in (i believes thats what it is). That might make this a bit annoying. We need to see the top half of the ozone. It would help so much.

Also, there are some things to do in Ohio... I believe lol. May I direct your attention to this thread?

I got no help from the folks over at m-audio. But i believe i know someone who has an ozone, so if i can get him to let me take it apart i'll get this all figured out. I promise you, i will not rest 'till we find the solution.

anything yet Drew?? im getting kinda antsy about taking the pot PCB appart and making it into another controller and just ordering the top half of an ozone

EDIT (its a sad one)

according to m-audio they have discontinued the Ozone . so there are no more parts for it. so whats going to end up happening is me surfing ebay again for a non functional ozone and parting out the oxy8 stuff
Rima Kanoho
12.07.2009
ive only got the oxy8's knobs not the ozones

EDIT

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAosgd9Cy6U 3:45 if you look at the board there that is the EXACT board i have its the pot PCB from the oxygen 8

Hell yeah congratulations man.
If m-audio will get back to me soon, i might have this all figured out before you get back from the honeymoon.

And the 5 additional knob's on the Ozone are not Midi, they are gain and level controls, but they will be handy to have. So i've been trying to find a way that you can get those hooked up as well.
Rima Kanoho

actually i live in portsmouth. about 2 hours down 52 east. but it will have to wait a couple weeks. tomorrows the wedding and then the honeymoon so yea ill not be messing with much electronic stuff unless it gives me food or beer or both.

Also, i see your in Ohio, where about?
If you're anywhere near cinci, we might be able to meet up and get this thing figured out.
Graham Frazier
11.07.2009
Damn, i was hoping that i would be able to make out a little more from looking at the board. Since they are using multiplexers for the knobs, it's makes it a little more complicated. But, we'll figure this out. I'm going to e-mail m-audio, and see if i can get some specs on that board. Hang in there.

its says "from knob pcb/audio" the oxygen only has an 8 pin header other than that i can take pics of whatever you want

Can you post a pic of the Ozone, up close where the 20 pin connects?
Rima Kanoho
09.07.2009
thats great and all and it does make sense. but i have a 20 pin ribbon and im wanting to put 13 inputs on it. the original board is on an earlier post so you can check those pics out. im not really good with electronics i can just solder fairly well.

08.07.2009
I cant see the pics now but because of your ribbon situation, sound like you need to do some soldering. Just strip the ribbon wires and solder it to a copper pref board (get it at radio shack). Then to the pots. Hopefully that makes since?

cmon guys theres gotta be someone with some experience like this. i really dont wanna have to break down and build my own board.

so i got the ozone workign with traktor and ableton. it seems when i shut off the ozone it freeze the pc for a minute then comes back. once the pc comes back i dont have any functionallity. i dont know if this is from the ozone lacking half of its intended parts or if its just windows vista 32bit. also if anyone has any ideas on how to add 2 more pots and a cross fader to this setup pictured below(pots and 2 buttons of the oxygen 8) id really appreciate it. it also needs an 8 pin to 20 pin (both ribbons) converter if that actually exists.

Rima Kanoho
06.07.2009
so i got my parts in today. got the bottom and looked it over. there seems to be an 8 pin ribbon that will match w/ the 8 pot bank on the oxy 8. however theres a 20 pin ribbon that would reach to where the original pots would be. ive got power hooked up to the keyboard and a usb but no response... im curious as to how this will work out...
Rima Kanoho
02.07.2009
yea ill probably toss in the xbox mod with that. ill have 10 buttons plus 4 more pots coming of that controller. all i gotta do now is get my iTouchMidi set up tweaked just so and ill have a nice setup for < 120$. As soon as the shipment gets in ill post some pics and some mock ups of what i got in mind.

im trying to believe of a name for this monster... i may put a poll up when i get into it heavy though...

Looks like the mod and pitch wheels should hook right up to the white connectors on the left of the ozone. And the big ribbon is most likely to hook up the knobs, they probably won't hook right up, as the oxy8 has less knobs than the ozone, but it should be easy to figure out which to hook up with a voltmeter. Then you could hook up a couple extra knobs/sliders. And you can order a replacement lcd unit from m-audio's repairs department at 626-633-9055, i got that number from a post on the m-audio community s.
Then you'll have a custom ozone for way less than the original cost. Hell yeah.

Here are the items im talking about. I hesitated on these because they were so rock bottom. And im getting a good deal on shipping. All in all 19$ for both pieces

Here are some pics of the beginnings of the xbox mod that ill probably add to the mashup.

ah ok. and i didn't believe about doubling up some of the other controls like that. if you were just trying to get one working controller, it seems like you could prolly find a used oxygen8 for $100 or less, but it sounds like you're doing more than that.

definitely post some stuff up once you get into. it's always fun to see these projects go together. and congrats on the wedding
Rima Kanoho
01.07.2009
well im getting both for under 50$ so im believeing with each one costing over 100$ im making out like a bandit with all the extra keys im getting from the ozone, plus the 2 mod wheels and 8 pots on the oxy. plus ill add my own mods to it once i get done with my wedding im having in about a week. Thats the big thing holding me down from my dj'ing and modding venture. Weddings are frickin' expensive!!!

i got that. it just seems like a lot of trouble to go thru for what is going to be a frankensteined mashup of a relatively inexpensive controller. i guess what i mean it, wouldn't it be easier just to get one working controller? maybe i missed some benefit you were looking to get out of using these two partials...

i use an oxy8. not hatin', just confused

awsome im waiting for the auction to end tomorrow ill hopefully get these for a nice price

This should be super eazy. Since they both are m-audio, it's pretty much a guarantee that they use the same connectors.
