Vestax TR-1

Vestax TR-1

Hi,

what do you guys believe of the new Vestax TR-1 that seems to be the perfect match for Traktor Pro?!

I'm not too happy with my VCI-100SE as I feel the handling is way too complicated with Traktor Pro (kudos to Ean though for putting up a splendid .tks).

It's a link to Vestax's German website but you probably get the picture. Availibility "August 2009", no pricing yet.

Mapping is easier than you believe once you get into it. Make sure you save your current settings and have a go!

sorry mate but I'll definetly be keep it. I was very lucky to get it. Bought from decks.co.uk and it was the only one they got in. I was told only 3 were shipped into the uk at that time. No idea what shops got the other 2.

It's a really good controller it's just going to take me a bit to get used to it. I hope ean golden get a hold of one and creates a new map file for it. I'm not saying the one that it's shipped with it poor. Far from it but just a couple of little tweeks wouldn't go a miss.

Let me know when you finally get it.

Well I've had mine for 2 weeks now. Not really had much of a chance to play about with it. As I've just moved from CDJs to digital its all a bit confusing still.

One question was about the changing the effects. There are buttons on which you can change the effects on the fly for both fx1 and 2 but its only mapped out for the first effect when in chained mode. I've tried using the shift key, but then I can only change the 2nd effect or 3rd effect which ever one I set it up for.

As for the hot cues I have no idea. According to the manual its setup for them but when I try it nothing happens. I'm probably not doing something correct.

I really hope someone with a bit more knowledge of midi mapping/digital djing gets one to hopefully help me out So if anybody gets one soon let me know how you get on. I'll keep at it and if I find anything more out about it I'll post it up.

I don't solely use the crossfader but I like to have one for the odd chopping in mix. I dont really scratch either but I like to use the jog to set my cue points on the fly. Not sure how you'd do that with the TR-1 with out the mouse.

It looks like a lovely bit of kit and there are things i don't love about the vci-100 (the single fx bank) so nothing is perfect... I just want them to make something perfect

I don't really like crossfaders personally. Seems like an inacurate way to switch tunes. I do use the cross fader when it's there so I like how it will force me to use the faders.

As for jog wheels... Time will tell

Anyone able to let me know how they are getting on with there tr1 and hot cues?

I'd miss the crossfader and the jog wheel myself. Surprised there is no talk of a vc1-100 with a layout for traktor pro - ie two sets of fx banks. Surely that would smash it!

I am really up for buying one of these! I have paid decks.co.uk for a pre-order but nobody in the country have a clue when they will be in stock.

I'm interested in peoples mappings to find out what extra settings they use. I was believeing of using shift and the fx buttons to go to hot cues. It seems strange there are no hot cue buttons on this thing.

Also how do you change the chained fx as there is no option to modify each one without the mouse

It's brilliant But I believe if you really want to go 4 deck way, the toggle switch and all the soft take over of parameters won't do... only 2x TR-1 will really get ya the performance you want. the really cool thing about a controller like this is to hide on the software all the parameter you have on the hardware ... so you have total info just by looking at it, like a standard mixer+decks .. I'm not a scratcher but the crossfader will be missed by some ... One cool thing is the Longer Pitch Fader ..
I had a very quick run on the beast but I believe it needs some teaks to add teh possibility of changing the pitch range (shift+ pitch bed + and - maybe)
I changed the panning into Gain ( shift button engages panning).
Thinking of adding a control to quickly ON/OFF deck filter.

Also I believe it would be much cooler and practical to have seperate move / loop controls ... a matter of using shift but I'm not a fan of modifiers and multiple controls on the same knob/ button..

Well it arrived yesterday along with the audio 4. Had a little play with it last evening and must say I'm very impressed. All the controls are set out in a way to match everything onscreen nicely.

Just a bit miffed as to why my latency won't go below 10ms or I get pops and crackles. I was running 2 denon 1200s with their built in soundcards and an external mixer and had a latency of 5.5ms. I haven't done anything different apart from install the audio 4 and switch to traktors internal mixer. Anybody any ideas why this would be.

Pc spec is: quad core q6600 2.4. 4gig ram and running xp service pack 3

any help would be appreciated

I just bought one from deck.co.uk today. The guy told me that only 3 units were shipped in the UK of which they had one.

Should arrive tomorrow so will let you know.

I'm still waiting for a compact controller that really has 4 decks with dedicated line faders, fx, transport, loops and pitching, plus a global section somewhere. I'm currently doing external mixing to at least have some of that but I'd die for a controller that can do all that with internal mixing.
doesnt the 4d do all that? Far from compact though

It's a pretty good idea, I had a closer look at the layout already some time ago and believe it's pretty functional. What I don't like that as soon as you exceed two decks, you're back to shift-key fiddling and hoping that soft-takeover takes away some of the ugliness of having different slider/knob settings on the shifted decks. I'm still waiting for a compact controller that really has 4 decks with dedicated line faders, fx, transport, loops and pitching, plus a global section somewhere. A little OT: A crossover between the TR-1 and "The Thing" posted in another thread would be a controllerist's wet dream

Vestax VCM-400 = Vestax TR-1.

So no internal soundcard, I believe that is why they lined it up with the Vestax "Tank" soundcard.

I don't speak Deutch, but I'm inferring from the linked page (and the price point) that this will NOT include an audio interface.

This is the updated VCM-600 (I believe that was the number) that's built for Traktor Pro, whereas the VCI-100 was much more tailored to Traktor 3.

It looks really sweet, definitely, but I can make do with some remappings on my VCI-100.
