Which Backup Controller?
Posted on: 07.06.2010 by Mariah Itter
I am about to head overseas in 6 weeks for prob best part of a year and I have vci-300 which is ace but i cant see myself getting it fixed over in eygpt if it broke so i am looking at taking a backup controller and was looking at one x1 controller and the new fader fox.

I know how to beat grid thanks to the tuts on here but i tend to mix live and would prefer pitch bend buttons etc, so which is gonna give the best bang for buck?I have a sound card already.

Advice and opinions please......

Anyone here using it as a standalone for all types of music and how are you finding the x1?

Toevening I have been looking at the M-Audio X-Session Pro and if i can get pitch bend mapped and use it on traktor then i will look in to it, as it is a backup and not a main controller.

I am leaning towards the x1 as It's not too small and I can assign pitch bend buttons easy enough.
New fader fox looks ok but just too small, I had thought of a cheap Numark controller or similar but it looks like being the x1.

What about a Vestax Spin or Typhoon? You would be familiar with the controls, but you lose the benefit of having another controller to incorporate into your sets.

Good post mate, the x1 does seem geared to edm music and not a bit of everything which is what i do like house urban and top 40, cant see me sync all of my tunes, i would need to pitch bend.

Can't make my mind up, faderfox looks good but is soo small i dont believe i could live with it.

They talk about the X1 as a standalone controller here. it's small and serves a couple of different purposes so as a backup it might be a good plan.

Can't you just change one of the knobs on a Fader Fox to work as a pitch bend?

I was actually drawn to the fader fox post on here first, then saw the x1, the new faderfox looks tiny though?

My main need mixing wise it a decent pitch bend, i dont play with fx's at all really,I have a torq connectiv as a backup sound card but if itch and the vci went tits up then as i have my tunes mapped in ituns then traktor time it would be!!

Cant afford to be overseas and djing 5 evening s pw to have itch and esp vci die on me as i would not have cds etc, but i do have a backup lappy so looking to get cheap ish controller as a backup.
