2 x dj-tech kontrol one plus stanton 3m
2 x dj-tech kontrol one plus stanton 3m Posted on: 22.10.2009 by alfredo moreira i've got an idea.i want to make these kontrol one's a lot more portable... like fit in a backpack/laptop case/messanger bag kind of portable. as they are, they are very very thick, so that they'll sit up at the same height of a standard mixer. but really, they could be pretty thin, like vci-100 thin. i opened mine up: i would just need some custom housing for them, what should i use!? aluminum would be awesome, but i wouldnt know where to begin with that. then i would have a nice little setup like this: that would fit in a bag

After doing more research, here are some pros and cons on this controller: Pros: Jog Wheel looks to be pretty nice Pitch fader looks smooth and long Rotary dials for switching between decks and FX Cons: Size (all that empty space in there really is a bummer) "Plasticky" buttons (how awesome would this be with arcade buttons on it) Color scheme is pretty horrible Build quality looks somewhat cheap (I won't really know this until I buy it) I'm still on the fence about this controller right now. The new NI Controller that was released today looks awesome, but it doesn't have a full jog wheel, so I'm still trying to decide between the VCI-100 SE, Kontrol One, A&H 1D, or now the NI controller. Oh choices choices.

Yajaira Hibbitts 11.11.2009 | for me what i did was combine the whole scs3 system with two xone 1 ds and its working for me. for those who are using scs3 system can try it out with the kontrol one as well. adds alot of depth to controlled parameters on traktor pro. |
Sharolyn Narramore 12.11.2009 | if you want i can refer you to the seller that made mine. you can sketch out what you want and she'll take care of you. she made a couple of my faceplates. |

alfredo moreira 28.10.2009 | the dj-tech kontrol one feels pretty sturdy. all aluminum housing. i like the jog wheels, and they seem pretty responsive (depending on your latency of course) i believe i prefer normal knobs for effects, but the endless encoders work just as well. you just have to manually set their sensitivity in your dj software so that they respond as gradual or quick as you want. all the buttons feel pretty stiff, with a nice click. good or bad depending on what you like. here's a couple little videos i just made about them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vY41ONByD8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvd2S0POmks |
Sherley Ampofo 27.10.2009 | Wow that looks like a great mod!!! I've been believeing about possibly picking up the Kontrol One (I really like the rotary switch which allows you to select individual decks a la VCI-100SE). I haven't seen much about them in these community s or on the web in regards to folks who have actually used them. How do you guys like the overall feel of the controller? How are buttons, jog wheel, and current mapping they have set up for Traktor Pro? I'm really on the fence right now and don't know if I should pick up a VCI-100SE, A&H Xone 1D, or one of these Kontrol Ones? Thanks in advance! |
Xavier Emanuels 27.10.2009 | wow that really is alot of wasted space ! Personally i hate these overly thick devices they are sooooo not portable - very cool idea with the mod Look forward to looking at your final product. |
Victor BlueDragon 27.10.2009 | love it |
Latia Pfleider 27.10.2009 | maybe you can modify the existing case? chop it down. that leave you with no backup though if mess it up or need warrenty service |

Latia Pfleider 24.10.2009 | I couldnt find any pre built enclosures that were big enough this 17x13x3 was close but expensive 35$ you might as well go the diy way prob to small and it has no top to cut out 17x13x2 ac-419 17x13x3 ac-420 pic http://rocky.digikey.com/WebLib/Bud%...oto/AC-420.jpg found on page 1892 mouser catalog http://www.mouser.com/catalog/catalogusd/639/1892.pdf http://www.mouser.com/Enclosures/Enc...ases/_/N-5g3p/ thats the search but I like to look through it catalog here I never have good luck with that search |
alfredo moreira 23.10.2009 | aprox 17 3/4 in wide. prolly need at least 13 in deep, a little headroom for the usb connectors to stick out the end. and currently about 4 1/2 in height (this is the part i'm hoping to change!) what is this mouser catalog you speak of? |
Latia Pfleider 23.10.2009 | whats the measurements on that setup? I have been looking at the mouser catalog |
alfredo moreira 24.10.2009 | i really believe the stanton 3m compliments well for a couple of reasons. first, its a powered usb hub, so all these of these only use up one usb on my laptop. also, you can use the 3m w/o all that dascratch software. you can just straight program it with midi learn inside traktor or whatever. and the toggle buttons to switch between decks A&C and B&D still work just fine, as well as switching the sliders from eq's or effects. so for each kontrol one, and each side of the mixer, can all independently switch between decks. the only catch is that when a kontrol one is on channel 1, it and the 3m will have overlaps of midi messages. but i just use channel 2, 3, and 4 for 3 deck mixing, and the other deck for audio through for mic. |
Madlyn Trocino 24.10.2009 | WOW ive been meaning to open my Kontol One's to see how much wasted room was underneath. This is frickin great that you posted the pics....THANKS Its sad that there really isnt a quality small midi mixer that has come down the pike. I like the Stanton and all, but I need something with accual physical knobs and faders. The X session Pro (Pro?) is the right size but lacks in pretty much every way possible. And beyond that all the other options are too big... |
alfredo moreira 24.10.2009 | the wood housing on those Livid instruments is definitely classy! but there's no way i could pull that off myself O_0 |
Joannie Brague 23.10.2009 | damn links won't work here is a direct link http://www.lividinstruments.com/imag...comp_site2.jpg |
Joannie Brague 23.10.2009
Joannie Brague 23.10.2009 | Yeah I got get it cut at your local shop or make one out of wood. It would look pretty classy with with a wood housing. much like the livid ohm seen here which is way easy to make at home since it's just a simple rectangle. Either way it will look pretty dope. good luck keep us posted |
Irvin Cee 23.10.2009 | really really really cool idea... it would definitely be the perfect controller! and when you play in a club, it's just perfect, you put these on top of the CDJs, and your're ready! I still can't believe that a company like Vestax didn't make a single deck midi controller for about 200 |
alfredo moreira 23.10.2009 | on second thought... i could see about going to a machine/cutting shop, and just have them chop off most of the top portion of buttom section, leaving just enough room for the jog and circuits to fit in there. |
