Numark Mixtrack
Numark Mixtrack Posted on: 21.12.2010 by Eileen Sorber I'm new to the community
s and I have a few questions. My partner and I are what I call laptop DJ's we use a laptop a mixer amp and speakers, we want to add controllers but don't wanna send a ton since we only DJ a couple times a month for fun we only charge for weddings and such everything else we only charge fuel just because we both love music so much and crowd control........anyway I'm looking to buy the numark mixtrack but I don't know what else I need to purchase, I want to scratch a little and listen to my next track for cueing etc etc. Thanks in advance. | |
Mitchel Shearouse 28.03.2011 | Im using the mixtrack pro with virtual dj 7 pro. Ive been trying to configure the rca outputs so I can run a set to my speakers and the input for the club/house speakers. ive been unable to do so. I want to get the perfect mix between the two sets. The house speakers are quite low so it looks like I will be splitting the master out using y's and running one side to my speakers and the other side to a mixer to boost the signal and then from the mixer to the house. Has anyone else ran into trouble using when trying to use this device with multiple outputs? also i remapped the device simliar to that of the total control (which Is what i used before) but i still havent come up with a solution to kill switched, triggering the sampler, or the filter...suggestions??? |
Wilbur Siress 29.01.2011 | I use my net book as well it seems to run just fine doing simple 2 deck mixing. It only has one 1gb of ram but i have a 2gb stick on the way. I would not rec mixing on one tho. I plan on upgrading when i get out of school. |
Hermine Lally 29.01.2011 | While it is true that sometime individual components don't play nice, you should be able to solve most problems except overheating (and even that's debatable). If you're having USB problems instead of trying a powered hub, just install a USB pcmcia card. That would create a completely different USB bus on your laptop. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...7092&CatId=511 I've been DJing with a 1.8 core duo Dell with 2gb and Vista every weekend for almost 3 years problem-free...using both external control vinyl and midi controllers. I've even successfully done gigs using both Traktor and Torq on my little netbook and that's just a 800mhz celeron with 1gb of ram and XP. All using the internal hard drives and the audio interface set at the lowest latency. DJ software really shouldn't be very CPU or memory intensive in comparison to other audio software playing huge multitracks with all kinds of effects and audio instruments. All your really doing is playing a couple of MP3s. |

Question how does the ranking work i just noticed I'm a tech wizard now.....
. . yer on your own there, BigHomie! HA! |
Eileen Sorber 28.01.2011 | More then enough info, I'm going with a gateway I already have a buyer for my Toshiba, I'm going to buy one with the large screen, and fast RAM and processor speed. I can buy a new internal HDD for a fraction of what they'd charge if it came with it. Bestbuy has a 1tb for 119+30 to install. Question how does the ranking work i just noticed I'm a tech wizard now..... |
Vernie Beharry 28.01.2011 | [QUOTE]What do you believe about Dell and asus[/QUOTE Asus - Great laptop. Have a few buddies that use em for replacing their Desktop. For the money it's a go. . Resolution isn't so great, depending on the model (some of the $500-$700 models have a terrible resolution, especially). Otherwise, no real problems with those machines. Dell - You may want to go with the mid to higher models. Not to say that they're not good, but they can do the job. I have a few people that have troubles with brand new ones, and used my laptop with Scratch Live. Might be the USB ports, it might be the performance level (Perfomance, Balanced, or Power Saver modes), but that's with ALL laptops. Keep an eye on the specs though. Ideally, I'd go with the following: Processor = Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalent (2 Ghz minimum) RAM=3 g or more OS = Windows XP, Windows Vista (like I said, it's stable enough now) Soundcard = Not that important, as you're going to be using the Numark I/O for that. My Gateway: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3 ghz (total) RAM = 3 Ghz OS = Win Vista 3 years strong. .but wanting more of a beast for gigs. Hope this is helping you along there, Big! |
Eileen Sorber 28.01.2011 | What do you believe about Dell and asus |
Eileen Sorber 24.01.2011 | That prob tough to do. My partner got his Hercules and he's been doing mix cd's for some beauty shops and barber shops around here I guess were gonna step it up big time so I gotta get my sh?* together. He uses a gateway so he's had no problems at all. |
Vernie Beharry 24.01.2011 | BigHomie Anytime brotha. . .I was once in your shoes and had to do it all myself. Just glad I can help. . . I'll stick with mentor though! . . .I'm still trying to get my own controller made. . .but the gf. . .ya know?!?! HA! |
Eileen Sorber 24.01.2011 | Damn man i appreciate that, you need to be promoted to wizard lol, reason i asked is cause the 17" i want is at walmart for 900 online it's 1500+ i am still looking, i like gateway my first was gateway but my son stepped on the charging port and broke the plug off inside it was a few years old, i'll search for a gateway. Thanks again. |
Vernie Beharry 24.01.2011 | @BigHomie Focus on the specs, not the laptop and the name. If you can, stay with Win XP for the operating system. . .but Vista is stable now. Core 2 Duo processors are solid, although more and more manufacturers are using the newer processors (intel). it is all dependent on what gear is going to be connected (Soundcard, midi controllers, etc) I did some research a while back on this. the HP Beats are running on the i3/i5 processors. Because of certain issues with Intel i3/i5/i7 processors, I'd try to stay away from those. Also, because of the past issues, I'd stay away from the Toshiba laptops too. A buddy of mine just bought one (Toshiba Satellite), and gigged at a club (using Scratch Live), and the USB issues with them caused MAJOR hiccups (went out on him 5 times the entire evening ). No Bueno at all. Doesn't have to be top of the line. . .but it does have to be strong enough to run what you need. . .My Gateway laptop is 3 years old. . .no issues what-so-ever . .well. . .cept the pr0n my friend used to watch on it when I took a break from Djing. . .My own fault!. .HA! |
Eileen Sorber 24.01.2011 | So would the HP Beats By Dre laptop work well, I know its supposed to have enhanced sound but will it work for actual DJ'ing |
Vernie Beharry 13.01.2011 | @bighomie Damn man. That sucks! Just keep in mind the specs, processor, and USB ports for for you next one. Keep us in the loop, bro, and good luck! |
Eileen Sorber 07.01.2011 | Update: powered usb hub did not help, so all I have left is to buy a new laptop. |
Vernie Beharry 03.01.2011 | Good to hear that it's working for ya bighomie. . . I would recommend to find out which USB port is your High Speed one. . .It's usually the OPPOSITE side with the 2 usb ports (usually). . .Use high speed one for your Dj IO. And the powered hub will be connected to one of the other USB's to connect your HDD, Mixtrack, and other Midi devices. On another note, How big is your HDD? I have a 2 portable Western Digital (WD) HDD's. The 320 works flawlessly, but my laptop has a tough time reading the 500. . .lessen the loading for each track loading or analyzing the drive in TSP and SSL. Definately let us know how everything turns out! |
Eileen Sorber 03.01.2011 | So far the asio 4 all works for my mixtrack it works so F'n smooth now. I have to wait till numark sends me another djio the one I received was defective and their happily replacing it. I'm going to buy a powered usb hub just because I found one for a good price and it has 7 slots so my mixtrack plus the DJIO plus my Ext HDD plus my wireless mouse can all get I'm where they fit in and not strain my laptop. I'll post the link where I got confirmation on the asio for all if that's a ok thing to do for a new guy to do. |
Eileen Sorber 02.01.2011 | Ok I found a powered usb hub ill give it a shot, I can't not use my external dd 200,000+ songs and sounds effects laptop can't handle it. I'm going to give it a shot Monday and ill report back. |
Hermelinda Tuccillo 02.01.2011 | The POWERED usb hub sounds quite good. Also ditch the external HDD for this. You can keep it there but when playing it it should be on your laptops hdd, as well as the software you are running. I believe there was an option in traktor to make a copy of the song to a specific directory when importing it in the program. Really sounds like your laptop has a hard time with mass usb usage. Try an usb hub with a separate power source, should help. Changing hardware is out of the question, it will be at least motherboard + power unit, which will cost you as much as a new, 1-2 year-old model of those discounted notebooks you could get. |
Eileen Sorber 02.01.2011 | So what makes the Toshiba bad? I can have any item upgraded through the tech guys at work. |
Eileen Sorber 01.01.2011 | That what i feared. I get a nice discount with my job for dell and HP so I guess ill have to bite the bullet. |
Vernie Beharry 01.01.2011 | @bighomie Toshiba's are NOTORIOUS with latency and overheating. . .great machines if your not going to be using them with any intense stuff using the USB ports. As a last ditch effort, you may want to try using Asio4All drivers, but I haven't read/seen/heard anything that this fixes the problem. Above that, there's not much that I can believe of but replacing the laptop. Dell & HP's work good, even the cheap ones (not a netbook) Sorry Chief. . . . |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | There has to be a solution besides shelling out more dough for a new laptop. |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | Yeah that's what I feared. It works perfect without mixtrack or even the interface, it works pretty good with just the mixtrack connected, but once you add the DJ io its down hill from there. |
Matha Obray 31.12.2010 | ^^^Those are known for some bad latency issues. My Dj i/o runs perfect from the minute i got it. And i even have it set at the lowest latency. |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | I have a Toshiba only 1.5-2 years old. |
Vernie Beharry 31.12.2010 | It might be the Numark DJ IO. . .just found this before I head out and party for the new year. . . http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=22492 But what kind of laptop do you got? I have a 4 year old Gateway that is my daily beater. You could find out on the net for you brand and model from either the manufacturers website. . or just invest in an Audio 2 Dj soundcard. |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | Just did that and after everything loads up, it still won't stop blinking, I've contacted the seller and its headed back for and exchange. |
So Francis 31.12.2010 | Try turning off your laptop and uplug it from the electricity, then take out the battery wait ten minutes and restart. This will restart the motherboard, and it should recognize it. I had the same issue with my audio 2 DJ. |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | I have no clue which is the high speed one. The red light on the sound card just blinks now, laptop won't even recognize it. |
Vernie Beharry 31.12.2010 | If you can, use the high speed port when connecting the IO. . . If you need, you may want to use a powered USB hub. . .But my bet is on the high speed port. |
Eileen Sorber 31.12.2010 | I've tried different settings there's like 6 to choose from and its still very jittery. My laptop has great RAM speed and plenty of space to operate I have a external hard drive that i run all of my programs from except the Traktor program that came with it. I used virtual DJ and it even runs from my hard drive. I wanna throw this sound card into the nearest river so bad but I gotta figure it out. |
Audrey Pinda 30.12.2010 | Just a thought, but what is your latency set at? Try moving it up a bit until it's smooth. |
Eileen Sorber 30.12.2010 | So I received my mixtrack and the DJ io, I installed all required software and changed the config. When I use just the mixtrack with no sound card it works well but no cue, when I hook up the sound card it lags so bad that my laptop shuts down the songs are jittery and even stop in, the mixtrack functions seem to freeze lights on, unusable etc. What am doing wrong? |
Eileen Sorber 24.12.2010 | No such thing as too much info, i'm researching the bags as we speak, i'm going to either buy if build a box to hold my mixer amp and my light control panel. The numark and his hercules are small investments to see how far we want to take this djing thing thanks a ton i'll probably buy one if those bags or look here in town at a hobby shop. Thanks again. |
Vernie Beharry 22.12.2010 | @bighomie Coffin Set-ups are limited with what you have, and not much room for expanding. My own set-up has 2 turntables, a Vestax 05 ProIII, and multiple MIDI controls for Serato Scratch Live (Korg Nano pad for Cue points and Loop rolls, and Korg Kontrol for FX). I also have Novation Dicers that are simply sweet! But I have Road Ready cases for the heavy stuff, and the Mixer case I have is an Odyssey Glide system. I used it once for a MAJOR all day house party I did and had the Mixtrack set-up above the mixer for the vinyl/"traditional" dj's, while I had another L Stand off the left/right so I'm not behind a laptop all the time. Overkill on the info, but just offering as much as I can. . .again, good luck with that, Big! |
Vernie Beharry 22.12.2010 | @bighomie I don't have the exact measurements, but I believe it be about 17-18" across, probably 12-13" high, and 2" thick. . .probably 2 3/4" if you want spacing for the knobs too. Rackable? Naw man. . It's actually light enough that I just use an Odyssey L-stand (folding design). It pretty light, and it does the job pretty well. Odyssey also makes a case that works well with the Mixtrack. http://www.odysseygear.com/odyssey-products/fzluc.html A bit overkill for a $150 controller, but at least it's better protection than what I got. You could go with the M-Audio TORQ bag I've seen for an all in one solution for the Mixtrack, Laptop, and any other necessary for a small gig, or a gig with multiple other DJ's http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...t_Gig_Bag.html This one does the job for me though, as I lug a backpack for my laptop. . . . Hope this helps you out, Big! |
Eileen Sorber 22.12.2010 | @DJwindz can you give me the measurements, the specs I thought I have are for the Hercules Steel. Also is the Numark rackable like I mentioned I have to real turntables for djing but I want the controller to goin those coffins which can be made to one. |
Vernie Beharry 21.12.2010 | @ Bighomie It's really not a bad buy at all. . . I've had mine for some time now, and I've rocked several parties with with other DJ's using the Mixtrack. . .has not let me down. You're definitely going to need a specific soundcard. . .NI Audio 2 DJ is worth it. Loud and easy to set-up. I've had the DJ IO Numark makes, and the output is just not the same. Scratching, the response was good. I was really surprised on the response. the cross fader though has something less desired. If you scratch "hamster" (Reverse), your in for arude awakening! (I'm a reverse kinda-guy!). it'll work, but don't expect to win the next DMC battle with it. . . As others have said though, the knobs are not great. . .functional, but not sturdy. Hope that helps. . . |
Eileen Sorber 21.12.2010 | I'm a matching brand kinda DJ I went with the numark sound card. I'm entry level and will probably remain entry level, not really aiming to be Kid capri Just love to control the crowd and I spend 150 every Tuesday on new and old releases so a wedding here and there to get some of that cash back is all I aim for.......right now anyway. |
Andree Ganas 21.12.2010 | I have the Mixtrack. I would say it is perfect for entry-level djing. The knobs and faders are pretty weak feeling though and might break off with time or excessive force. I do not scratch, so I cannot speak to how the jog wheels are for that application. Like Patch said, you will need a soundcard.
