APC80 Tutorial Videos!
APC80 Tutorial Videos! as promised, delamar.de published the APC80 video today. it even includes a bit of the "fuck reel" I'll post my follow-up video later. since we had a brand-new APC80 after the tutorial was done and I really don't need another one (it would be badass - but seriously, no), we eventually decided that the best thing to do is to auction it off at ebay *hint hint*. in related news, I also relaunched my website --- UPDATE --- here's the follow-up, in HD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6T25QXdgNA | |

I have run soldered cables of the DC input on the two units so that both units run from on PSU that I have upgraded from 1no 12V DC 2A and 1no 12VDC 1A to 1no 12VDC 3A supply from my box project (ongoing) here. I have also used the off cuts of the Aluminium to strengthen the join between the two units, photo's to follow. |
Ling Zambada 21.03.2011 | So I was believeing earlier today about creating an entire large-scale performance rig out of two APC80s (an APC160):
Sounds like overkill, no? Although, it'd be the perfect size for two people to work at. |
Lilliana Perris 21.02.2011 | I will have my backing plate this evening and can finish my mod off too! I used it out again this weekend....blew ppls minds! |
Ling Zambada 20.02.2011 | I've got more pictures if you want me to send them over to you! |
20.02.2011 | excellent work! congratulations! I'm posting this on facebook |
Ling Zambada 19.02.2011 | Built my APC80 today! |
Stephan Denigris 12.02.2011 | soo prime |
12.02.2011 | I have no idea, which is why I didn't mention that in the video; not too good with tech measures, especially not in english sorry. I recommend taking off a side panel of the 20 and then going to a hardware store... trial and error. it's how I did it. the thick screws are ~2cm long an the ones that go on the bottom are the same as those already in the APCs (take one out for reference), except ~2mm longer. good luck! |
Ling Zambada 12.02.2011 | What size are the two different screw types? I'm hoping to start the mod today!! |
12.02.2011 | the apc80 ebay auction just ended: 500 EUR. a bargain IMO, but the video production costs are covered |

I have already asked my mate for an aluminum backing plate. Just need the specs now. I mentioned in your vid that you will make this available too? Any chance of that? Again.....CHEERS mate! x) |
Lilliana Perris 08.02.2011 | Legendary! My mates all gonna FLIP when they see my 80! Big Ups dude!...Big fucking UPS! |
07.02.2011 | true - I also use foot switches. the novation ones are great, cheap and effective. |
Lilliana Perris 07.02.2011 | Awesome....gonna check it out a lil later. I find the APC40 perfect for Traktor....for the way i use it. Derders mapping is what I use and modded slightly. I can see it being 100% perfect to use with the TSP2.....its flawless for my current setup and I have a lot of faders and buttons left which would be mapped to functions in the new version of Traktor. The footpedal ports are the added bonus too! |

Check it out. Lots of credit to ctrld for the idea, I wouldn't have done it with out the verification from him. |
Dana Ordinario 04.02.2011 | Great video I hope to make one soon as I get enough money to grab a APC40 to go with my 20. How long before Akai starts producing these themselves? |
05.02.2011 | hey guys, thanks for all the feedback I was never planning to build APC80s to order because I know I couldn't make the time - this is why I went through the trouble of making this tutorial in the first place; I just want to share. as to TSP2, yeah - I'll probably take a look at that but I definitely won't be using the APC80 with traktor; I believe the layout of the controls makes most sense in ableton live I'm sure someone on here will eventually come up with an excellent mapping, but I like my setup the way it is. I'll stick with the 80 for ableton live and my three pad controllers + the evo5 for traktor; it's more than enough to get creative. as to the follow-up video, I had to re-do it (saw the original footage again, realized that it sucked, went back to square one) but it's on the way to the rendering queue definitely coming this week-end, if this render turns out okay I might even upload it toevening . |
Lilliana Perris 04.02.2011 | @ctrld.... So are going to upgrade to the TSP2 software? Are you still jamming the APC80? What are your thoughts on the APC80 and the TSP2 software together? I believe it will be fucking brilliant! Searching for the APC20 here....might even buy it NEW....and do the mod! |

I might cough up the dough for a brand new one...... I really like. Thing is....it is going to be PERFECT for the new Traktor Pro 2 software. PERFECT i tell you. |
Ling Zambada 03.02.2011 | Planning on finally doing this mod sometime before my gig on the 25th. I don't believe I have a little blowtorch thingy though :/ |
Lewis Stumpf 03.02.2011 | "And the warranty is gone, so now we need to continue" I like that. Very good stuff, got some questions I had answered. I'm super tempted to start modding my own pair, I need to watch my cashflow a little though, and spend what I have on my own controller. You oughta build more, and sell them |
Fe Kuchma 03.02.2011 | excellent video tutorial!! even if the intro took you awhile to nail :P any videos of it in action? |
Matha Obray 03.02.2011 | Nice vids |
Joan Kollmorgen 03.02.2011 | The video is really impressive - well done |
robin loo 03.02.2011 | finally pretty cool thing you made there.. understandable video for copycats.. |
Lilliana Perris 03.02.2011 | Is the video Downloadable? No time to check it here at work. I can use a DL program I guess.... |
Tatum Ansaldo 03.02.2011 | Now all I need is an APC 40, an APC 20 and many, many hours to learn how to use ableton properly. What's stopping me! |
Random X 03.02.2011 | Cool one CTRLD! Will be watching it soon. |
Shonda Soulier 02.02.2011 | great job! many more steps than i imagined. great looking controller |
Earlean Kuhnke 02.02.2011 | nice video, helped a lot. Any chance you can shoot me a link to the mappings video that is said to be posted on your website...I can't find it...I feel stupid haha nvm i just saw the follow up video part of your post! Cant wait |
