I must say the rane empath rotary is the mixer i'm eying up now.

I believe the 800 is decent but the empath is mega sex.

With $1000, I'd get a TTM-57SL (used). Or a nice Empath.

But that's just me

<3 Rane mixers.

Unfortunately, you can only have the same filter on each channel with the 62. *sigh*

I love my xone:42 but do not spend $1,000 for it....i got my xone and a cdj-400 for $1,000. Both were used but near perfect cosmetic and perfect working condition....

Pretty simple though....if you want a midi assignable mixer for $1,000, go with the djm-800. Otherwise save some money and get a xone:42. Love mine way too much....and my girlfriend is starting to notice....

Most people are saying the xone 42,because of effects, but I was going to get 2x kontrol x1s for effects. So has anyone changed their mind?

BUT it's an easy & fun mixer though. you can get them pretty cheap & easy nowadays since the new generation mixers came out.
The effects take a bit of practice to get them sounding decent. If you're just hitting a flanger and leaving it on all evening , it's going to sound formulaic and cliched. If you're a bit more creative with them they can sound pretty good. Laidback Luke, Roger Sanchez, and thousands of other professional DJs around the world craft great-sounding mixes and they certainly use their fair share of effects, so I'll respectfully disagree with you there.

Let ask you a question; do you believe effects sound cheesy in general, or just the DJM 800 effects in particular? If it's specifically the 800 you don't like, what effects do you prefer? I'm not bashing you here, I'm honestly curious.

So, as others have said, your main options probably are:

Pioneer DJM 700/800(second hand b-stock)
Allen & Heath Xone 42/62/92(second hand or b-stock)
Denon DN-X 1600/1700 (second hand or b-stock)
Vestax PMC 580 (second hand or b-stock)
Ecler Evo 4

And i would take a look at the mid-range of mixers like the Denon DN-X 1100/Ecler Nuo 4.0 + Kaoss Pad if FX are desired.

Those are all great mixers and what you should get depends entirely on your preferences, but since you did not give any specifications, here are some questions you should believe about.

What currency are we talking about? (GBP vs. USD can make quite a difference)
What music do you play? (Will you do scratches?)
What and how many sources do you use? (purely digital? Vinyl? CDs?)
Where do you want to use your new mixer? (bedroom only, houseparties, club?)
What gear did you use before?
Do you prefer certain brands? If yes, why?
Faders or rotary? Do you mind if the faders have studio caps?
How long should the faders be? (45mm, 60mm, 100mm?)
What fader curves do you prefer? (linear, logarithmic, adjustable?)
Do you want volume meters per channel?
How do you like your EQ? (3-band, 4-band, with complete kill, isolator mode?) If you use Traktor, you could use the internal EQ modes to test how different EQs can sound.
Do you use FX? Do you need internal FX or is FX send/return important?
Do you prefer having filters per channel?
Do you want any specific cueing functions? E.g. split-cue?
Do you need a microphone channel? If yes, how many, should there be additional features like 3-band EQ?
Do you want midi functionality?
Would you like to have a soundcard in your mixer?

If you provide answers to those questions, people might be able to help you more specifically.

Standard A&H fanboy response. I'd ignore this if I were you.

Pioneer filters on 700, 800 and 900 are all decent. Better than traktors which are also alright. Yes A&H filters sound slightly better but no punter will ever notice.

Certainly they don't sound "shit"

DJM-700/800 filters are pretty poor. They're functional, but not beautiful.

The pioneer djm-t1 (I just bought online) is a great mixer for use with traktor because it has all of the buttons for use with traktor and the audio device built in. I bought mine for for under $900 online.

At least with the DJM900, this is a huge overstatement. Sure, A&H filters sound a bit better, you have the full range of the knob to work with, and you have more control over the resonance, but I'd hardly say Pio filters sound like shit. Granted, my primary experience with them is on the 900 and I haven't used the 800 or below extensively. Traktor's filters on the other hand I'd completely agree with that statement; next to no resonance on the Xone emulation and huge resonance on the Ladder and neither's adjustable.

I believe it all depends what you and how you play.

I had a Xone: 42. I currently have a DJM-800. I like the 800 much more. The sound coming out of the 42, sounds better. The filters are also much better. If I was a guy that layerd tracks or played trance, etc. the 42 would be a better choice. The DJM-800 action packed. Way better crossfader, filters on each channel, midi-assignable, and post fader effects that have a very nice "wet" sound to them. But it's very true, I mostly just use echo on it, reverb and flanger occasionally.

you would spend so much money on behalf of some strangers opinion? lol ^^

since you didn't mentioned A&H or some other serious brands and since it seems like you believe pioneer mixers are good, i would suggest you to get some knowhow before spending so much money on crap ^^

Honestly? Your best bet is going into the closest DJ shop to where you live and try them out. Don't try and spend your whole budget, that's just you asking to get ripped off. Try out all the sets you can. Find what you enjoy

Don't take a Pioneer mixer. DJM-800 effects are nice at first, but after a while you'll be only using the Echo/Delay and even they sound shit. Not to speak about the Reverb. Save a few 100 extra and get a Xone DB2 or take a Xone:92.

you can probably find a really good condition djm 800 for that much. I have the. I like it alot for the price, it can be found for like 600-800 pretty easily. Overall the amount of effects and sound is pretty good. Independent filters/sweep in about the number 1 thing I miss from the 800, but besides that its a solid mixer. If you can find a good used 800 I would swoop that up though.
