Why DJs choose Midi controllers poll

I would like to just get an idea about why djs choose to use midicontrollers.

Portability
Creativity
Ease of use
Price

id say that about the 2000s as well. I do know the D/A converters on a 1000 are second to none, as in second to rane/A&H.

Yeah, but people look at me weird when I bring Maschine into work. There's a reason I only post 9-5 Eastern time and in the middle of the evening on weekdays. Either I don't have anything else to do at work or I can't sleep (and can't make noise because I live in an apartment and there's nothing going on in Atlanta

Disagree slightly with that mate. Some maybe choose on price point. I chose controllers cus i couldnt be bothered lugging records and vinyl around.

People dont get warned or banned for using curse words on DJTT. I swear all the fucking time. I believe Mostapha was referring to the intent in his post. I happen to agree with what he said as i pointed out above.

DJTT does not allow discussion of pirated software. Period.

Any member than does not agree with this should leave. This is not up for discussion.

But in all seriousness, price and portability. My decks are heaaavy, my controllers are super light and I can toss everything in my backpack. Customization is a big factor too. I am constantly mapping and remapping my controllers as my workflow evolves.

My apologies to anyone that almost raged on my post, just pure sarcasm. Anyone who has read my posts know I love the fact that there are 100s of ways to mix music, and all mediums. I love you guys here, this community has been the biggest help getting into djing. But man, do these threads degrade quick lol. Its the internet gentlemen, no need to blow a fuse just because someone has a different opinion. The speakers don't know if you are using cdjs, tts, midi, or 3 tapedecks wired together through a mixer.

would made this poll multichoice.

i would check all 4 and add another points

like getting more paid and have his artistname written in doublesize on the flyer just because you use a midicontroller+ableton and call it LIVE when you make your DJ job with ableton ^^

good lord. Mostapha, do you ever believe that effort you put into your ridiculously verbose prose might be better directed somewhere else?

On topic, for me, controllers were something that sort of morphed from spending a bit of time trying to dj with ableton live some years ago and became my dj tool of choice after spending a year on the road travelling. I like the customisation, and the exciting new things that are available when djing with software.

Portability and creativity for me. Knowing I can take one backpack to a gig if needed and being able to do virtually anything I want on my setup are two key points for me.

I no longer "professionally" dj, after playing local raves and clubs for 5 years... I've fallen out of the scene mostly due to family and work. It's gone from club dj, to bedroom hobby (for the love of interacting with house music).

So I sold my expensive setup of CDJ 1000's and the DJM-500, and downgraded to a nice compact all-in-one setup (the Vestax TR-1) with Traktor Pro 2. I might upgrade towards the Traktor Kontrol S2... I would like full control of the sample decks and I actually do miss the jog wheels (without them I tend to rely on auto-sync, even though I easily beatmatched with vinyl and cdj's for years).

08.11.2011
Actually you're right. Sorry about that.

His post made no sense.

Buy an S4 AND traktor pro?
Buy a midifighter AND padkontrol?

Redundancy much? I don't see why you'd need more than an S4 anyway.
That and a super powerful macbook is hardly required for a bit of djing...
