Singledeck Arduino
Singledeck Arduino Posted on: 07.01.2011 by Lewis Stumpf Building it this spring. Arduino based, touch sensitive jog-wheel, arcade buttons, and possibly a few surprises. The only problematic part is construction of the jog-wheel, but I'm working on that. I can hardly wait til time and funds come along | |

Dannielle Glassey 13.01.2012 | Too bad another DIY project got to a halt. The jog wheel isn't that hard to make if you keep it simple. Find a second hand rotary encoder on the bay and of you go |
Yanira Eckroat 12.01.2012 | you should find someone with a Lathe and get the jog wheels made it would be very simple to do edit: and with the lay or the lathe at the right speed it will look like a record on top |
Diogo Dj Dragão 12.01.2012 | This thread makes me smile. |
Lewis Stumpf 10.09.2011 | I believe I drew that, at some point I might have a go at building it, or something like it Right now I haven't got anywhere near the finances for that kind of project, and I'm currently concentrating on making a full traktor map for the APC80 (4 decks), with effects and stuff. I did finish a monome/launcpad kind of project, but I never got around to posting it. |
Arielle Posso 08.09.2011 | Where would you get pads like that. I want to build a controller using pads but I don't know where to find them. |

Madge Humrich 31.08.2011 | any news on the jog wheel construction? believein about building something but not really much idea on... how yet ;] |
Lewis Stumpf 20.04.2011 | Thanks, I appreciate it I have no plans on including an LCD screen on the "deck" controller (There simply isn't room for it!). But I have been looking putting a pair of screens on more mixer oriented controller that I have been drawing. There's a reason I haven't been putting more time into this than I should have, but I'll post more on that later @Ken. Sorry for the late reply, your reply must've caught my while I was away from net access for a while. I'm afraid I don't have too much solid linkage of the kind you're looking for. There are a fair few projects out there like mine, however. One of the most incredible ones (which I am also quite taken aback by), is this one. He managed to build a very working jog wheel from scratch, and executed it quite well. |
Lillia Mestdagh 20.04.2011 | Looks awesome! Assuming this would be used for Traktor, you may be interested in including an LCD display, I have managed to get artist, track name and time to display on an LCD coupled up to an Arduino using the MIDI data traktor sends out to display this info on the Denon HC4500. The how-to is in this thread |
Yaeko Hionis 11.04.2011 | Hey - how has this turned out?? I've been doing quiteee a bit of research and lurking, and this is the kind of project im looking towards doing. Im an industrial design (product design) student, and want to do this kind of project over the summer. if you have more info/links on this kind of DIY project please send a PM |
Lewis Stumpf 05.02.2011 | Hey. I'm doing a few test runs of the jog-wheel assembly next week, when I've got a fairly working model, I'll post up the plans. Thanks for the interest |
Ruiz dB 04.02.2011 | I am believeing about working on a similar project but I am using a Netduino brain instead of a Arduino one... (I can program in .NET so the learning curve is a lot less steeper with a Netduino.) Anyway, I found this encoder part at sparkfun which may help you build a good jog wheel: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9208 I too, would love to see how the jog wheel portions are constructed if you do them from scratch considering my electronic circuit knowledge is very limited... Good luck! |
Karry Sappington 25.01.2011 | i can make those, just gimme the boxes knobs buttonpads n faders !! |
Lewis Stumpf 23.01.2011 | Probably one controller per deck, as that would make the most sense, usb wise. But I probaby could, using some muxers and shift-registers |
Arcelia Siebeneck 23.01.2011 | nice design! you believe you can use a single arduino mega to cover all those inputs? |
Lewis Stumpf 23.01.2011 | The controllers are primarily Joostiisme's design, adapted to fit into the kind of casing that I work with. The center mixer is my own design, inspired by the center console on the kontrol S4 and a mockup done by Tekki. The combo? I dunno, pioneer? The earliest dj's? |
Fe Kuchma 23.01.2011 | controller looks good safefire! wheres the 2 deck(?) and mixer combo from? |
Lewis Stumpf 23.01.2011 | I didn't steal it! I just, borrowed, it ^^ The main feature is the mixer, I just felt like having it go along with the effects unit paradigm, which I quite like |
Demetra Pinizzotto 23.01.2011 | thought so too looks like safefire agrees with my design. now we just need Ean and NI to do so too |
Random X 24.01.2011 | LoLz, I know that design from somewhere. |
Lewis Stumpf 23.01.2011 | I dozed off listening to Jester's mix last evening
, something was on my screen when I woke up. I'm not really sure what it's supposed to be, anyone? |
Lewis Stumpf 22.01.2011 | Having mockingly good fun For people wanting to photoshop their way to the controller of their dreams, post here on in the Ni Kontrol M1 thread. |
Lewis Stumpf 14.01.2011 | That first link was actually where I got my inspiration for the jog wheel. The square-wave wheel seems the most obvious way to do it, although I do have a few extra things I'd like to try out in that booth. Thanks a ton for the second link, that'll be loads of help. That guy's controller is sick, by the way! |
Janyce Henningson 15.01.2011 | I know some people making jogs have used the sensor from an old ball- mouse to get very good results - also the motor of a hard drive and belt are good for jogs but not scratching http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku...atchcontroller http://midibox.org/community s/topic/10400-scratch-wheel/ |
Ethyl Laface 14.01.2011 | This thing looks slick. Can't wait to see it when it's done! |
Graham Frazier 14.01.2011 | For the jog wheel, you could look into getting a used EKS XP 5. I've heard really good things about them. But never used them myself. |
Vernie Beharry 13.01.2011 | This. . .is. . EERIE!! This almost looks like my design for my project Midi-Fighter. . .minus the platter control. . . For the jogs, have you though bout purchasing Vestax jogs directly? or even purchasing a Mixtrack for their jogs, just in case for the LEDS for the jogs don't work for the Vestax ones? BTW. . .GREAT LOOKING CONTROLLER, Safefire!!!! |
Lewis Stumpf 09.01.2011 | @Fraganator: A present moment, a Mega2560. I need the additional digital inputs. @Deevey: I looked into that. The problem with encoders is that they rarely are sensitive enough. I'm looking into a solution similar to what the VCI-100 does, with a grounding finger and an optical disk. P.S. If anyone has any expertise on constructing jog-wheels or the like, do speak up! Thanks |
Rolanda Clodfelder 09.01.2011 | Regards the Touch sensitive jogs ... how about a hollow shaft encoder and pressure plate ? Just an idea |
Charmain Discepolo 09.01.2011 | What Arduino board are you using for your design? |

Arcelia Siebeneck 08.01.2011 | nice design - I'm ordering my Arduino brain in the next week or so as well don't forget to share any code you've written! (there's a thread on here with a load of Arduino links/info - post it in there if u can) |
