Traktor S4 vs Denon DN-MC6000
Traktor S4 vs Denon DN-MC6000 Posted on: 04.01.2011 by Caron Burckhardt I am getting one of these I THINK since they seem to be the best controllers out there on the market, I was into taking the step to CDJ's but I seriously feel like that is just a step back in technology.I am really struggling and believeing about weather or not to be a CDJ or to use a controller. Please leave ANY kind of opinion in this matter, TS4 CDJ's or the Denon DN-MC6000. Maybe you know one that is even better. I am very used to the Traktor Pro software so I am kinda leaning towards TS4. I have to say that the Denon DN-MC6000 looks more professional. I really don't want to lose out on gigs if I have a controller, so therefore I am also into maybe just becoming a CDJ, it feels more professional, but really it's a lot easier with controllers. If only those friggin "sync buttons" could be removed I believe we'd all get along better and controllers wouldn't be considered as cheating. I really want to get something new and more professional than the controller I have right now. And all I believe about is which one to go with (or CDJ's) I found this controller test, http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2010/11...rs-guide-2011/and it pretty much confirms that the TS4 and the Denon are considered to be the "Big Shots" of controllers. | |
Danae Dumler 05.01.2011 | Ouch, you're right! Never noticed that, probably since I never played with one. But it looks like you can switch between channels displayed on the two columns of LEDs, but you're right it would be better to see all four at once. Interesting. Luckily (?) I don't have the $ for either of these now, so I'm waiting till after NAMM too lol... The thing about trade shows is, there will ALWAYS be something better coming down the road if you wait long enough.... |
Len Ladera 05.01.2011 | This is what stopped my purchase of the Mc6000. It does not have 4 meters for the channels, I kept debating it, and i really decided I wouldn't even use it as a hybrid midi mixer without this. Just me. Look: http://www.denondj.com/Assets/DImage...DNMC6000_8.jpg For what its worth the S4 does. I wouldn't buy either yet. wait for NAMM to pop, i know its hard. |

But if money's an issue and it comes down to S4 vs the 6000, I would go with the denon since the sound card is better and it's an actual mixer if you go computer-less, although you might want to wait and see if it gets traktor certification too. |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | well said man, thank you for that answer. You've confused me into wanting the S4 again, haha. But good to hear other pointers! Thank you |
Lashay Walchak 04.01.2011 | Considering the integrated soundcard potential to add a single CDJ type and/or a TT and the fact you get the Pro S4 software I believe the S4 is hard to beat. They both have a professional look to them. The MC looks more cluttered and I dislike the monitor/master volume/mix knobs that stick out of the front of the MC, they don't look like the click lock in, haven't had my hands on one yet. In regards to the losing gigs thing I'll personally be telling promoters to eat shit or flat out lying to them. What do by care if the music sounds good and the people are dancing? To me it should be way more about what you playing then how your playing it. |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | Gosh Darn, pretty much in love with that mixer now! The Allen n' Heat |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | They say in a month or so, but don't believe so, expensiffff as "EFF", but really looks like a keeper. So confused on what to get. Pretty big choice too since I will stick with this for a few years. Blah! |

Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | That guy is sick! great show, I am not a scratcher though, this doesn't tell me anything about it besides from the part that he is kicking ass at it, haha. I'm guessing you scratch? |
So Francis 04.01.2011 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXdVnDVjSL8 demonstration of them |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | this looks smashing too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcKycHHHJj0 |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | If I just might ask, one last query. Why should I get that set? With the CDJ's and that mixer? What's the pro's, since it obviously has shit loads of em' if it's your dream set up! Thanks again! Nice talking to you btw! |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | Hmm I will look into to this, so this set up is your dream one? Might give this set up a go actually! Looks really nice too! |
So Francis 04.01.2011 | And on ebay you can get two for 1200 http://cgi.ebay.com/PAIR-Denon-DN-S3...item5641d42f3d EDIT: This is sort-of off topic though, between the S4 and DN MC6000, they are both safe bets. |
So Francis 04.01.2011 | They should be about 8-900 depending on the deal http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CCYQ8wIwAA# then the DDM4000 is about 350 on amazon http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CEoQ8wIwAA# |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | The DNS3700 are almost 1200 dallas a pop |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | I found the DDM4000 for 430 dollars brand new. Good price? Thanks a lot for all the pointers! |
So Francis 04.01.2011 | They both have integrated sound cards, the MC just can't timecode. AKA its the equivilant of the Audio 2 (with more outputs) and the S4 has the equivilant of the audio 4 soundcard. The reason not to just get a mixer is because that forces you to chug around cdj's or turntables when you could just bring the MC6 or S4 if you don't want to bring a lot of weight around. EDIT: and cause then you can use the MC for now and upgrade without buying an entirely different mixer in the future if you don't have that money to spend now. If i had $2000 i'd probably get two DNS3700's and a DDM4000 and eventually upgrade the DDM to a pioneer mixer. That way the DNS3700's are both midi soundcards and CDJ's...its like my dream setup :P |
Caron Burckhardt 04.01.2011 | Haha aight I get it. You just got me a bit more confused in my selection? Why not just get a mixer with an integrated soundcard then? Well maybe that wasn't my question. Lets put it like this, what would you buy for 2000 dollares? |
So Francis 04.01.2011 | Currently I just use my VCI-100 and then i DJ with a friend who has two V7s and a DDM4000, so sometimes we just use his gear
if we can't chug too much. But if you want to use CDJ's with timecoding then S4 is best bet, but if you get the MC6000, you can buy another sound card (like audio 4) and use it as simply a mixer, which would probably operate a bit better cause you can function if your computer crashes. But INMHO, they are both great to bring to clubs. |

So Francis 04.01.2011 | My Take: S4 - integrates the software, Timecode capability. Denon - Looks more professional, standalone mixer. Pick your poison from there, they are both great controllers. Personally, i'd go with the DN MC6000 |
